RACE 1  –  TASRACING STAKES  –  1680m  Mobile

SERENGETI SUNRISE – Placed on its last chance in the draw for races conducted under mobile start conditions after breaking during the score-up inconveniencing runners on the second line. It was noted although this incident occurred mid-score up, all runners were able to fill their respective allotted positions. Steward in placing SERENGETI SUNRISE on its last chance in the draw were mindful of the gelding’s recent barrier record. Gave ground over the concluding stages, beaten approximately 40 metres.

LAST OF THE MOHICANS NZ – Subjected to a post-race TCO2 blood sampling.

AHA REACTION NZ– Broke in the early stages of the score-up. Placed on its last chance to race competitively after giving ground over the concluding stages, beaten in excess of 70 metres.

RACE 2  –  KEITH STANLEY DEBUTANTE  –  1680m  Mobile

General: All three(3) runners, INSIDE THREE BARS, SNOWIEWILLREV and STONE WRITER were having their first registered race start.

INSIDE THREE BARS– Will be excluded from the barrier draw in mobile start events after breaking gait in the latter stages of the score-up resulting in the gelding being out of position at the start.

RACE 3  –  ALLEN WILLIAMS MEMORIAL  –  2200m  Mobile

LUNCHTIME LASS – Having its first registered race start.

BLING ON NIADH– Will be excluded from the barrier draw in future mobile start events after breaking in the middle stages of the score-up, checking runners on the second row, obliging the Starter to declare a false start.

DUCANE– Raced rough racing into the first turn after brushing the wheel of THE MIGHTY DOC when attempting to ease into a trailing position.

MISCELLANEOUS– Placed on its last chance to race competitively after tiring over the concluding stages, beaten in excess of 50 metres.

IDEN ORNELLA– Having its first registered race start. Pulled hard and over-raced particularly in the early stages. Inconvenienced on the first turn. Raced rough before breaking gait leaving the 1300, losing touch with the field, rendering the filly uncompetitive from that point, eventually beaten in excess of 260 metres. Subjected to a post-race Veterinary Inspection. On inspection Dr Blackwell found IDEN ORNELLA to have abnormal respiratory sounds, a possible indictor of a potential lung infection, but not a certainty. Steward deemed the overall performance below the required standard and subsequently stood IDEN ORNELLA down from racing until satisfactorily completing one(1) qualifying trial.

MAJOR IDEAL– Held up for clear running leaving the 300, raced up and contacted the sulky of TAMBROS TILLY late on the final turn.

TAMBROS TILLY– Checked racing into the first turn after DUCANE raced rough and dropped back sharply. Contacted from behind, late on the final turn, by MAJOR IDEAL.

OBLER – Checked racing into the first turn after DUCANE raced rough and dropped back sharply causing a chain reaction through the field.

ORAVOIR– Having its first registered race start. Tended to hang out and generally race green, eventually tiring out of the event beaten in excess of 60 metres. Steward deemed the overall performance unacceptable and subsequently stood ORAVOIR down from racing until satisfactorily completing one(1) qualifying trial.

General: Driver P Dornauf was fined $200 for the careless manner he shifted ground with DUCANE racing into the first turn, resulting in it racing rough after brushing a wheel. This incident resulted in other runners being checked [AHR Rule (168)(a)].

General: Driver R Walters was reprimanded for the careless manner he allowed MAJOR IDEAL to race up and contact the sulky of TAMBROS TILLY. Stewards in assessing the incident were mindful MAJOR IDEAL was full of running and held up at the time [AHR Rule (168)(a)].

RACE 4  –  JANE ELLEN FINAL    2200m  Mobile

GLENVIEW ALOPE– Momentarily blundered near the 400 and raced rough few a few strides.

General: Driver R Hadley was found guilty and subsequently fined $500 for the improper manner he used his reins, sawing the bit through CEE TEE CHELSEA’s mouth near the 100. Stewards in assessing the incident and penalty were mindful of the mare’s racing characteristics, driver Hadley’s record, his not guilty plea, recent precedents, and animal welfare concerns [AHR Rule 168(1)(e)].

RACE 5  –  SINBAD BAY FINAL      2200m  Mobile

NORBET– Tightened for racing room midway through the first turn when FAMILY REASONS shifted in. Hung in badly leaving the back straight on the final occasion, continuing to do so, ultimately becoming unbalance and break gait late on the final turn. As NORBET had been issued with a final warning at its most recent start, the gelding was stood down from racing until satisfactorily completing a qualifying trial.

SOKYS LINE– Tightened for racing room midway through the first turn when FAMILY REASONS shifted in.

FAMILY REASONS– Worked forward from the start, racing four-wide into the first turn, appeared to shy at the mobile barrier which had moved to it normal position on the outside of the track after pulling away from the field after the start. This incident resulted in a number of runners being checked to varying degrees. FAMILY REASONS failed to run on over the concluding stages, beaten in excess of 70 metres. Stewards deemed the overall performance of FAMILY REASONS below the required standard and subsequently stood the gelding down from racing until satisfactorily completing a qualifying trial.

BALDASARRE– Tightened for racing room midway through the first turn when FAMILY REASONS shifted in. This incident resulted in BALDASARRE being carried down over markers, ultimately breaking gait. Tightened for racing room approaching the 400 as FAMILY REASONS gave ground.

IDEN KAMAKAZI– Will continue to be drawn on the extreme outside in mobile start events after failing to fill its allotted position at the start. Tired badly over the concluding stages, beaten in excess of 100 metres. Stewards deemed the performance of IDEN KAMAKAZI below the required standard and subsequently stood the gelding down from racing until satisfactorily completing a qualifying trial.

RACE 6  –  LADBROKES EASTER CUP   2698m  Stand

MELANION NZ– Checked after the start, when GORDONS BAY broke gait and shifted in, this resulted in the gelding breaking gait for a few strides.

GORDONS BAY– Placed on its last chance in the standing start draw after failing to begin in the required manner.

VILLACCI– Galloped out. Placed out if the draw in standing start events.  Tired badly beaten approximately 300 metres. A subsequent Veterinary examination found VILLACCI to have bled from both nostrils. Stewards acting under AHR Rule 101, stood VILLACCI down from racing for a period of three(3) months, after which time connections must provide a Veterinary clearance, and in addition after receiving the clearance, VILLACCI will be required to satisfactorily complete a qualifying trial.

PARDOE PLUGGA– Subjected to a Pre-race Veterinary examination for precautionary reasons as the gelding had bumped its leg earlier in the morning. PARDOE PLUGGA was subsequently declared fit to take its place in the field. In addition, PARGOE PLUGGA was monitored for any concerns during its preliminary.

JIMMY THE IRISHMAN NZ– Fractious behind the barrier strands. Reared at the start. Placed on its last chance in the stand barrier draw after failing to begin in the required manner

MISS PAPENHUYZEN– Will continue to be excluded from the stand barrier draw after failing to begin in the required manner.

STAR MAJOR– Slow to muster speed after the strands were released.

General: Driver B Davis was fined $200 for failing to keep both hands on the reins approaching the winning post [AHR 163A(1)].

General: Stewards questioned driver C Castles into the reason why his dropped his right foot leaving the 2200. Driver Castles stated that after GORDONS BAY broke at the start, the hopple shortener cord was left hanging lose behind the gelding’s hind legs and he tried to hook the cord around his toe/foot to clear the problem. On review of the official race footage it can be seen that shortly after, driver Castles was able to clear the cord which supported his explanation. Stewards accepted driver Castle’s explanation, however strongly reminded him of his obligations with keeping his feet away from a horse’s hind legs, further Stewards suggested that should he experience gear malfunctions in the future it would be in his best interest to bring it to the Stewards attention before Stewards need to inquire into the circumstances.

RACE 7  –  KEVIN GILLIES MEMORIAL    2698m  Stand

WINDY HANOVER – Placed on its last chance to race truly after breaking gait free of interference, whilst leading, leaving the 1300. On review WINDY HANOVER may have shied at a marker post. It was noted this incident caused a number of runners to be checked to varying degrees.
