General: Stewards questioned driver J Chibnall (OUT OF EDEN) into the reason why on leaving the 400, she elected to maneuver OUT OF EDEN in behind the leader, remembering there is no sprint lane at Launceston, effectively placing that mare in a pocket, which required her to force a clear passage leaving the 150, rather than remaining in the one-out, one-back position which would have assured her of clear running. Driver Chibnall stated that OUT OF EDEN had raced on one rein during the race and rather fight against the mare she elected to ease down the track on the final turn. Stewards although concerned with the tactic, took no action other than to note the circumstances and the evidence as tendered, based on the fact that OUT OF EDEN did secure clear running.
General: Stewards questioned drivers C Castles (SPOT RULER) and J Chibnall (OUT OF EDEN) into the reason why SPOT RULER raced rough leaving the 150. Stewards, after taking evidence from the drivers, trainer C Crook (OUT OF EDEN) and driver advocate R Hillier, charged driver Chibnall who pled guilty to a charge of causing interference through her movement wider on the track which resulted in her sulky wheel striking the near-hind leg of SPOT RULER, causing that mare to race rough and lose ground. Stewards after referring to driver Chibnall’s driving record regarding interference charges and her submissions on penalty, including her personal circumstances, fined her the sum of $400 [AHR Rule 163(1)(a)(iii)].
