General: Trainer Clayton Tonkin was fined $200 for failing to notify drivers for his stable runners in tonight’s meeting until contacted to do so [AHR Rule 210].

RACE 1  –  TASSIE WASH TWO YEAR OLD  –  1680m  Mobile

HES FIRST CLASS – Tended to hang in.

IMPERIAL SANZ – First registered race start. A warning was issued as the gelding hung in contacting numerous markers an gave ground to be beaten in excess of 80 metres.

BILLYS TIGER KHAN – Led the event where it raced greenly, in particular, shifting out approaching the 1100.

General: BILLYS TIGER KHAN entered the parade ring nine(9) minutes before race time for what Stewards deemed an acceptable reason.

RACE 2  –  LEES ORCHARD PACE  –  2200m  Mobile

LEWICKI LEIS – Hung in under pressure.

NOT YET MUM – Caught racing wide early, progressed forward to lead the one-out line passing the 1700.

ALL ABOUT SADIE – A post-race blood sample was taken for TCO2 analysis.

NOBLEZZZ ADVICE – Back from its allotted barrier position as at the start. Hung in contacting markers.

TELL THE BARTMAN – Broke in the middle stages of the score-up resulting in the gelding being out of position at the start, consequently, TELL THE BARTMAN will be excluded from the barrier draw in future mobile start events.

General: Stewards questioned driver B Rattray with regard to the early tactics he adopted on ALL ABOUT SADIE, that being restraining at the start, whereas trainer T Rattray had informed Stewards of the plan to driven forward early. Driver Rattray stated that heading into the race the plan was indeed to go forward, however horses drawn to his inside had indicated, by the manner in which they were being driven in the latter stages of the score-up, that they would also be looking to go forward and as such he felt it in the best interest of ALL ABOUT SADIE was to ease and slide across into the running line. The evidence was noted.

RACE 3  –  RARE EARTH STAKES  –  2200m  Mobile

WATERFRONT NZ – Carried a flat off-side sulky tyre from the 2000 after being struck by THUNDER SANZ.

MISS BARTY – Well out of position when the start was effected, inconveniencing TAMBROS TILLY resulting in the filly being unable to fill its allotted position. As a consequence of being issued with a final warning for a similar offence 3 starts previously, MISS BARTY will be excluded from the barrier draw in future mobile start events.

THUNDER SANZ – Contacted the sulky of WATERFRONT near the 2000. In assessing the incident Stewards were mindful of the distinct reduction in pace at the time and the fact THUNDER SANZ had been driven through hard off the second line in an attempt to secure the position behind WATERFRONT. No action was taken other than to note the circumstances.

SMOOTH MACHETE – A post-race blood sample was taken for TCO2 analysis.

TAMBROS TILLY– Inconvenienced in the score-up by MISS BARTY, resulting in the filly unable to fill its allotted position.

General: At the ‘Check-in’, D Ford the driver of SMOOTH MACHETE which was placed first dead-heating with WATERFRONT (A McDonough) requested the opportunity to review the run to the finish. On review driver Ford lodged a protest against WATERFRONT being declared the equal winner due to alleged interference in the early stages of the home straight in the run to the finish. At a subsequent inquiry, evidence was taken from both drivers, and after reviewing the official race footage, Stewards dismissed driver Ford’s protest, believing the incident he referred to was insignificant and had no bearing on his chances and also believed he had ample time to run down and pass WATERFRONT. As such Stewards declared ‘All-Clear on the judge’s numbers 1/9-10-11-5

RACE 4  –  FIND US ON FACEBOOK PACE  –  2200m  Mobile

JUMPING JOLT – Ran up onto the back of runners over the concluding stages, unable to improve from the 100.

BETTER EXCLUSIVE NZ – Had difficulty in securing clear running until well into the home straight in the run to the finish.

BALBOA ROCK– A post-race blood sample was taken for TCO2 analysis.

REMEMBER ME NOW NZ – Over-raced.

General: Driver B Davis was reminded of his obligations regarding whip use.

RACE 5  –  LADBROKE IT! STAKES  –  1680m  Mobile

General: KHAKI NUI NZ entered the track approximately seven(7) minutes before the scheduled starting time, without parading. On investigating, Stewards found that KHAKI NUI NZ requires assistance from the “Clerks” however they did not present to assist the connections. Stewards can confirm KHAKI NUI NZ was ready to be escorted into the parade ring well within the requirements of AHR Rule 135.

KISS NZ – Slow to muster speed after the start. Held up for the majority of the home straight behind the leader, only securing clear running approaching the winning post.

LETSGOBRO – Led the event, shifting out under pressure in the shadows of the post.

MISTA EAGLE – Failed to secure clear running over the concluding stages.

KHAKI NUI NZ – Placed on its last chance to race truly after breaking gait free of interference in the home straight in the run to the finish.

HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN NZ – Will continue to be excluded from the barrier draw after failing to fill its allotted position at the start. Driven through from the back row after the start progressing forward in search for a forward position, caught wide before restraining to the rear of the field from the 1000. Broke gait free of interference near the 300. Stood down from racing until satisfactorily completing one(1) requalifying trial.

RACE 6  –  LADBROKES COMMUNITIES PACE  –  2200m  Mobile

ZAHRA LOU – Led throughout the event, continued to strike its sulky with its hind legs. When questioned, connections acknowledged they had fitted the wrong sulky. Stewards directed that they were to take whatever action necessary to prevent this reoccurring.

WILL HE PIKE – Worked forward from the start, left leading the one-out line. Under pressure from the 500, ultimately beaten in excess of 80 metres. A post-race Veterinary examination failed to find any obvious abnormalities. On questioning driver M Jones stated his plan going into the race was to work forward from the start, pressure ZAHRA LOU, whom he assumed would lead, to the point it would open up a gap behind that horse and he would be able to ease into that gap, securing this favourable position, however the tactic did not work and he was left leading the one-out line throughout, a position WILL HE PIKE had raced in in its last two starts. Stewards after considering the evidence tendered, and WILL HE PIKE’s recent race record, placed the gelding on its last chance to race competitively.

DAZZLE ME NZ – Placed on its last chance to race competitively after giving ground over the final 200 metres to be beaten in excess of 60 metres. Stewards questioned trainer W Yole over the performance of DAZZLE ME NZ where he informed Stewards that he believes the gelding would benefit from a short let up.

STORMONT STAR – Held up for clear running until well into the home straight for the run to the finish.

RACE 7  –  LADBROKES LAUNCESTON DISCRETIONARY  –  2200m  Stand

JEREMY WELLS NZ – Galloped away from the start. As the gelding had been placed on its last chance recently, JEREMY WELLS will be excluded from the barrier draw in future standing start events.

RACKETEERS BOY NZ – Slow to muster speed after the strands were released.

WATTABOUT SPANGHER – Inconvenienced approaching the 100 when MAEBEE shifted ground looking for clear running. This incident resulted in a locking of wheels with BLITZERN.

KILLARNEY DANCE NZ – Placed on its last chance in the barrier draw for races conducted under standing start conditions after failing to begin in the required manner by stepping back from the tape as the start was effected before galloping away.

MESSERATI – Trainer W Yole explained he was disappointed with the performance of MESSERATI, and after considering the gelding’s recent performances, he believes the gelding would benefit from a short let up.

MISS PAPENHUYZEN – Failed to begin in the required manner, as such will continue to be excluded from the barrier draw in future standing start events.

COOL WATER PADDY NZ – Checked shortly after entering the home straight in the run to the finish when WATTABOUT SPANGHER and BLITZEN locked wheels. This incident resulted in COOL WATER PADDY NZ striking and flattening BLITZEN’s off-sides tyre.

BLITZERN – Checked and locked wheels shortly after entering the home straight in the run to the finish. This incident although brief stalled the momentum of BLITZEN resulting in its sulky being struck from behind by COOL WATER PADDY NZ.

General: Stewards questioned driver G Rattray over his movement wider on the track with MAEBEE shortly after entering the home straight for the run to the finish. At the inquiry it was established that prior to his movement, WATTABOUT SPANGHER which was racing behind and wide of MAEBEE hung down the track, in behind his outside sulky wheel, and then as runners progressed on toward the finish, movement from a number of runners, including his own, contributed to WATTABOUT SPANGHER and BLITZEN momentarily locking wheels which in turn caused COOL WATER PADDY NZ to be checked. As no one driver nor horse could be directly blamed for the incident no action was taken other than to note the circumstances.

RACE 8  –  STACEY LEAR PHOTOGRAPHY STAKES  –  2200m  Mobile

General: The start of this race was delayed approximately five(5) minutes due to repairs to driver A McDonough’s sulky which was damaged in the previous event.

HELANSIN– Tired badly from the 1000 to beaten in excess of 220 metres. A post-race Veterinary inspection failed to find any abnormalities. Trainer W Yole could offer no tangible excuse for the poor performance of HELANSIN, indicating he would be assessing its racing future. Stewards after considering HELANSIN’s recent performances stood the gelding down for two(2) weeks and before returning to racing, HELANSIN would be required to satisfactorily complete two(2) consecutive requalifying trials.

MACHS MARETA NZ– Held up for clear running leaving the back straight on the final occasion.

General: Warnings were issued to the following horses which all were beaten in excess of 60 metres: KELLYS DELIGHT, SAPPHIRE GAMBLER, COLBY ART, and CHRIS BE QUICK. Stewards in issuing the warnings took into account the class of race, the times run and their individual recent performances.

RACE 9  –  NUTRIEN AG SUPPLIES PACE  –  1680m  Mobile

SERENGETI SUNRISE– Reinstated in the barrier draw for races conducted under mobile start conditions after satisfying reinclusion requirements.

General: Stewards questioned driver B Davis into his tactic of racing wide with SERENGETI SUNRISE in the middle stages of the event. Driver Davis stated that he felt the position outside the leader was a possibility as ALL FOR DAVE, which occupied that position had raced wide early, also the racing characteristics of SERENGETI SUNRISE does not suit sitting in behind runners. Driver Davis, his calculation was incorrect and SERENGETI SUNRISE as ALL FOR DAVE resisted the challenge and he was left racing wide. The evidence was noted.

RACE 10  –  TASMANIAN HORSE TRANSPORT PACE  –  1680m Mobile

No Racing Incidents

General: Trainer A Bain was reprimanded for failing to notify his driver LADY LA SALLE NZ by the prescribed time [AHR Rule 210]
