RACE 1  –  BEVAN LEE’S BUTCHERY STAKES –  2200M - MOBILE START

HY ON A HILL – A post race swab sample was taken from the winner.

RACE 2  –  LADBROKES ODDS SURGE PACE –  2200M - MOBILE START

SOULWRITER – Held up for a clear run in the home straight before gaining a inside run only over the concluding stages.

ONEOFTHELADS – Showed gait speed before progressing forward to eventually lead the event in the back straight. Had a gear malfunction on entering the home straight when the cord to activate the dolly’s wrapped around the hopples which placed him at a disadvantage. This was confirmed by the stewards coming off the track when the driver reported it.

LALIBELA NZ – Had a tendence to over race while racing in the lead of the one wide line.

CLASSY COUNTESS – Obtained a inside run over the concluding stages.

DEADLY ASSASSIN – Caught wide early and restrained to the rear after the start.

TAXI METER – After showing gait speed was caught wide in the early stages before restraining to get a trailing position in the back straight on the first occasion. Left a trailing position at the 900m to race three wide.

CINOCAL JAMANE – Showed gait speed to lead the event and pulled hard in front before gaining a trailing position in the back straight on the first occasion. Held up for a clear run approaching the home straight before gaining an inside run because of a gear malfunction on the leader. Stewards questioned the driver in relation to the tactics that were adopted in the event why he elected to go forward at the start, when the trainer’s instructions to the stewards were that they were going to restrain and come late. Driver reported that he was not aware of the instructions and believed his best options were to go forward given the inside runners. Stewards advised the trainer to ensure his drivers are fully aware of the instructions given in future.

Stewards questioned Drivers Mitch Ford (CINOCAL JAMANE) and Robert Walters (LALIBELA NZ) into reasons why LALIBELA NZ raced roughly and lost ground at the 400m. After taking evidence from both drivers and stewards acting on their own observations it was established that CINOCAL JAMANE while racing keenly hung outwards and placed LALIBELA NZ in restricted room and as a result raced roughly and lost some ground. Stewards could not blame any driver for the incident other than a warning on CINOCAL JAMANE racing manners.

RACE 3  –  CHARTLEY ESTATE STAKES –  2200M - MOBILE START

I WANT IT ALL NZ – Showed gait speed to lead the event.

NAPATATACK SAM –Raced at the lead of the three wide line over the final 900m.

RACE 4  –  LADBROKES FAST WITHDRAWALS PACE –  1680 M - MOBILE START

ROLL WITH ANGEL – Broke in the early part of the score up resulting in the filly being well out of position at the start. Was placed out of the draw in future mobile events.

NOT YET MUM – Severely checked by another runner at the 400m.

Stewards questioned Trainer C Howlett and driver M Howlett into the racing manners of MISS DUTTON in particularly at the 400m when the filly shifted outwards abruptly despite the efforts from the driver resulting in several other runners being severely checked and breaking gate. Both parties could not offer any excuse, so the stewards stood MISS DUTTON down to the completion of 2 satisfactory trials before being nominated again. Stewards also took into account the filly’s previous record.

Trainer Todd Rattray was issued with a reprimand under provisions of Rule 210 for the late driver declaration on ULTIMATE MOD. Stewards took into account trainer Todd Rattray’s excellent record in relation to this offence.

RACE 5  –  LEES ORCHARD STAKES –  2200M – MOBILE START

KENYA NZ –Left a trailing position off the front straight after receiving the bell to race three wide.

MY ULTIMATE ROMEO – Raced three wide in a trailing position into the back straight after receiving the bell.

Stewards questioned Drivers Robert Walters (YARECKON IM SWEET) and Charlie Castles (OCTAGONISE) into an incident racing in the back straight on the first occasion when YARECKON IM SWEET challenged for the lead despite efforts from the leader to hold him out. After taking evidence from both drivers and stewards acting on their own observations found driver Robert Walters guilty of a charge under provisions of Rule 168 (1) (d). The particulars of the charge being that Mr Robert Walters drove in an intimidatory manner when challenging for the lead resulting in Charlie Castles (OCTAGONISE) being taken inwards and racing inside and contacting marker pegs and relinquishing that position. The drivers license of Robert Walters was suspended for a period of 3 race dates to commence on 21 July 2024 until the 2 August 2024.

A post race veterinarian examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Racing to the 1400m the gelding was retired from the event as the driver advised stewards that it did not feel right in its action.
