All drivers at today’s race meeting were subjected to alcohol testing, with all negative findings. A selected amount of drivers were also subject to drug testing.
Driver J Brown was stood down under Rule 250(3) for failing to provide a sample when directed. Mr Brown has until 5pm on Wednesday the 23rd of October to provide submissions as to why the stand down should not remain in place pending the outcome of inquiry.
23/10/2024
The HRNSW Stewards advise that the previous stand down placed on licensed driver Jack Brown has been removed.
Mr Brown was stood down from driving in accordance with Australian Harness Racing Rule (AHRR) 250(3) which states:
250. (1) A driver commits an offence if:-
(3) In the event of an analysis of a sample taken from a driver indicating the presence of a substance banned by Rule 251, orif a driver refuses or fails to deliver a sample when directed to do so, or tampers with, adulterates, alters, substitutes or in any way hinders the collection of such sample, or attempts to do any of those things, the Stewards may forthwith, pending the determination of any inquiry or other proceeding or the result of any other analysis, stand down such person from driving.
Mr Brown was directed to provide a second sample prior to leaving the racecourse due to the initial sample he provided being of less volume than outlined in the collection guidelines provided by the testing laboratory.
Mr Brown failed to provide the second sample as directed due to a stated medical condition, for which further supporting documentation has since been tendered.
Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) has today reported to HRNSW that despite the initial sample being of low volume, analysis did not reveal any substances banned by the AHRR.
Given the initial sample has been able to be analysed, and a negative result has been returned, no further action will be taken against Mr Brown. Mr Brown however has been advised that when he presents himself for driving engagements he must ensure he is sufficiently fit so as to be able to fully comply with all requirements of the AHRR.

Driver Robert Morris was questioned in relation to the tactics adopted on the runner during the middle stages after galloping and then progressing forward to the lead at the 800m. Mr Morris explained after galloped and settling back into a pace he elected to direct TESTO BROMAC forward in an endeavour to occupy a position on the marker peg line. However after committing to that tactic Jack Brown, driver of COLLATERAL BEAUTY, progressed forward in the two wide line to the inside of Mr Morris’ drive, therefore resulting in the position on the marker peg line not being available. Mr Morris then advised that due to the momentum that TESTO BROMAC had he felt the position may have been available leading. However once progressing forward under driving the leader GROSSO NASO progressed forward in an attempt to hold that position. Once GROSSO NASO was unable to hold the position as leader TESTO BROMAC was able to gain the lead, however shortly after became under pressure and commenced to give ground shortly after. Mr Morris advised that his drive continued to pace roughly throughout and added that he wasn’t concerned at the time with work endured by TESTO BROMAC due to previous starts where it had been able to race tough at Menangle. Stewards noted the comments of Mr Morris on this occasion and post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
