Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
RACE 1 – MC SECURITY PACE (1690 MS)
EPIC ORION – Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.
HESAA LISTER – Pre-race blood sample. Raced roughly shortly after the start. Raced roughly passing the 300 metres causing the trailing WINGATE GUY and ALTA BAYAMO to be checked and broke gait, whilst LUVERBOY was hampered and contacted marker pegs. A warning was issued.
WINGATE GUY – Passing the 300 metres had to be checked away from HESAA LISTER which raced roughly and consequently made contact with the sulky of SWEET REVENGE NZ causing WINGATE GUY to break gait, and further resulting in ALTA BAYAMO also being checked and broke gait.
ARCHAA – Pre-race swab sample.
LUVERBOY – Pre-race blood sample. Hampered and contacted marker pegs passing the 300 metres when HESAA LISTER raced roughly.
ALTA BAYAMO – Checked and broke gait passing the 300 metres when trailing WINGATE GUY which was checked and broke as a result of HESAA LISTER racing roughly.
SWEET REVENGE NZ – Had its sulky contacted passing the 300 metres when WINGATE GUY had to be checked away from HESAA LISTER which raced roughly.
RACE 2 – HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHELLY WICKS PACE (1690 MS)
MARIANNA BROMAC NZ – Pre-race swab sample.
FRIENDS – Pre-race blood sample. Examined pre-race by the veterinarian in accordance with HRV’s animal welfare policy due to the gelding being 12 years of age. No abnormalities were detected. Hung in when entering the final turn and as a result proved difficult to manoeuvre up the track away from AMBER ALERT, then when leaving the 300 metres that runner shifted up the track marginally whilst FRIENDS continued to hang in, causing those runners to lock wheels and be severely checked, and further causing the trailing GO GEORGE GO, JERSEY SAM and KEEPCRACKINGJOKES all to be severely checked and broke gait as a result. Given the marginal movement from both runners, no action was taken.
GO GEORGE GO – Trainer G Bull was issued a formal caution for failing to declare the intended driving tactics with the stable runners in the event. Severely checked and broke gait leaving the 300 metres after making heavy contact with the sulky of AMBER ALERT which locked wheels with FRIENDS, and in turn caused GO GEORGE GO to lock wheels with JERSEY SAM which was also severely checked and broke gait. A post-race veterinary exam revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration to the off-fore coronet band which required bandages being applied by the on-course veterinarian. Acting on veterinary advice, GO GEORGE GO was stood down for a period of 7 days.
THE DUX – Pre-race blood sample. Examined pre-race by the veterinarian and was passed fit to start.
AMBER ALERT – Pre-race blood sample. Severely checked leaving the 300 metres when locking wheels with FRIENDS which hung in slightly causing the trailing GO GEORGE GO to make heavy contact with back of its sulky and consequently was also severely checked, broke gait and locked wheels with JERSEY SAM which in turn caused KEEPCRACKINGJOKES to be severely checked and broke.
SWEET FACE – Hampered leaving the 300 metres when trailing FRIENDS and AMBER ALERT which locked wheels.
SELF EXCLUSION – Pre-race blood sample.
JERSEY SAM – Pre-race swab sample. Severely checked and broke gait leaving the 300 metres when locking wheels with GO GEORGE GO which was severely checked after making heavy contact with the sulky of AMBER ALERT when that runner locked wheels with FRIENDS and further causing the trailing KEEPCRACKINGJOKES to be severely checked and broke. A post-race veterinary exam failed to reveal any abnormalities.
HAND WRITER – Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.
KEEPCRACKINGJOKES – Pre-race blood sample. Severely checked and broke gait leaving the 300 metres when trailing JERSEY SAM which locked wheels with GO GEORGE GO when that runner made heavy contact with the sulky of AMBER ALERT which locked wheels with FRIENDS at that point. A post-race veterinary exam failed to reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 3 – TAB PACE (1690 MS)
ELZBOY – Examined pre-race by the veterinarian in accordance with HRV’s animal welfare policy due to the gelding being 12 years of age. No abnormalities were detected. Gave ground inside the final 300 metres to be beaten 42.4 metres.
ATOMIC GLORY – Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.
MY LUCKY ROCK – Pre-race blood sample. Shifted in shortly after the start when not clear of HAIR RAZOR which was placed in restricted room momentarily. Subsequently, driver T Hilson was issued a formal caution for tightening.
OLLY ODD POTTS – Pre-race blood sample.
ROYAL EDARD – Pre-race blood sample.
MISTER REBEL – Pre-race swab sample. Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian in accordance with HRV’s animal welfare policy due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination. Hampered leaving the 600 metres when HAIR RAZOR broke gait,
HAIR RAZOR – Placed in restricted room momentarily shortly after the start when MY LUCKY ROCK shifted in. Broke gait clear of interference leaving the 600 metres causing MISTER REBEL to be hampered. HAIR RAZOR was placed on its last chance to race truly.
RACE 4 – KILMORE MEN'S SHED 3YO MAIDEN PACE (1690 MS)
LOMBOK – Pre-race blood sample.
LILSTREPO – Pre-race blood sample.
MYLA GIRL – Weakened noticeably inside the final 300 metres to be beaten 224.3 metres. A post-race veterinary exam failed to reveal any abnormalities. In view of the overall performance, MYLA GIRL was stood down to one re-qualifying trial.
MY UPTOWN GIRL – Pre-race blood sample.
ALTIUS – Pre-race blood sample. Held up for clear running during the early stages of the run to the finish.
RALTED – Pre-race blood sample.
ANOTHER PUDDIN – Out of position at the start despite the efforts of its driver. A warning was issued.
YANKEE BABE – Pre-race swab sample. Out of position at the start despite the efforts of its driver. A warning was issued. Held up for clear running during the early stages of the run to the finish prior to utilising the sprint lane.
RACE 5 – C + M BUILD GROUP 4YO & OLDER MAIDEN PACE (1690 MS)
WALTZING WITH NANA – Pre-race blood sample. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have sustained a superficial laceration to its off-fore leg.
SHANDIN BEACH – Trainer Z Steenhuis was fined the sum of $50 under AHRR 210 for failing to declare Damian Wilson as the driver by the prescribed time. Broke gait clear of interference upon entering the first turn. SHANDIN BEACH was placed on its last chance to race truly.
VINCENTS RAINBOW – Pre-race blood sample. Weakened inside the final 900 metres to be beaten 110.6 metres. Driver J Frew reported post-race that, given the favourable barrier draw connections sought to drive the mare positively in the early stages and ideally find a forward position with cover however when his runner was unable to cross WALTZING WITH NANA in the early stages then ALAMO worked forward to the lead the mare was caught racing outside of the leader and stated that with the mare having its second career start tonight his runner was unsuited to racing without cover for a majority of the event and proved detrimental to its performance. In view of the overall performance, VINCENTS RAINBOW was stood down to one re-qualifying trial.
OBSYDIAN – Pre-race blood sample. Broke gait during the latter stages of the score up and consequently was out of position at the start. OBSYDIAN will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw. Hung out passing the 400 metres.
ALAMO – Driver C Shinn was fined the sum of $100 under AHRR 156(3) for applying the whip on more than occasions than permitted inside the final 200 metres. Post-race swab sample.
GOODTIME MAE – Pre-race blood sample.
CANT EATOVERS – Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian in accordance with HRV’s animal welfare policy due to the gelding having not competed in the preceding 12 months. No abnormalities were detected on either examination.
LORINO – Pre-race blood sample. Driver T Potter was fined the sum of $100 under AHRR 156(3) for applying the whip on more occasions than permitted inside the final 200 metres.
IVE AN IDEA – Pre-race blood sample.
BALLADORO – Out of position at the start despite the efforts of its driver. IVE AN IDEA will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.
RACE 6 – JET ROOFING 0-2 LTW PACE (2180 MS)
CAPTAIN GROOVE – Pre-race swab sample. Trainer R Alchin was fined the sum of $50 under AHRR 210 for failing to declare Chris Svanosio as the driver by the prescribed time.
KITSUNE – Post-race swab sample.
VINCE LOMBARDI NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Driver J Laugher was fined the sum of $400 under AHRR 156(2)(a) for applying the whip on multiple occasions that exceeded a wrist only flicking motion inside the final 50 metres.
LITTLE SHOWGIRL – Weakened inside the final 400 metres to be beaten 75.8 metres. LITTLE SHOWGIRL was placed on its last chance to race competitively.
LENIU – Pre-race swab sample. Stewards intend on interviewing driver L Wilson in relation to her whip use inside the final 200 metres.
RUMPELSTILTSKIN – Pre-race blood sample.
RACE 7 – O'BRIEN ELECTRICAL PACE (2180 MS)
MAJOR MAL – Trainer V Valleonga was issued a formal caution for failing to declare the intended driving tactics with the stable runners in the event.
ROCCO AMERICANO – Pre-race swab sample. Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian in accordance with HRV’s animal welfare policy due to the gelding having not competed in the preceding 12 months. No abnormalities were detected on either examination. Driver S Taylor was fined the sum of $200 under AHRR 156(2)(a) for applying the rein in a manner that exceeded a wrist only flicking motion inside the final 200 metres.

CITY ROCKSTAR – Pre-race blood sample.
BLISSFULL STRIDE – Pre-race blood sample. Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian in accordance with HRV’s animal welfare policy due to the gelding having not competed in the preceding 12 months. No abnormalities were detected on either examination.
OZZIE PUNTA – Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.
RACE 8 – BUDS & BRANCHES FLORIST PACE (2180 MS)
PETE MITCHELL – Pre-race blood sample.
BETTER SAINT – Pre-race blood sample. Checked and broke shortly after the start when CALAQUENDI broke gait.
CALAQUENDI – Pre-race blood sample. Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian in accordance with HRV’s animal welfare policy due to the mare having not competed in the preceding 12 months. No abnormalities were detected on either examination. Broke gait shortly after the start causing BETTER SAINT to be checked and broke. CALAQUENDI will now be excluded from to mobile barrier draw. Weakened noticeably inside the final 600 metres to be beaten 202.9 metres. In view of the overall performance, CALAQUENDI was stood down to one re-qualifying trial.
BUBBY TO BASE – Pre-race blood sample.
SPORTS NARRATOR – Raced keenly throughout the middle stages.
FEEL THE REIGN – Pre-race swab sample. Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian in accordance with HRV’s animal welfare policy due to the rig having competed in excess of 200 starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination.
ROYAL SAXON – Pre-race blood sample. Raced keenly throughout the middle stages.
RACE 9 - BROADSTEAD KILMORE PACE (2180 MS)
MAJOR BILL – Pre-race swab sample.
FREMONT STREET – Pre-race swab sample. ($2.30) When questioned regarding the performance driver J Duggan explained that given the gelding had been successful at its most previous start and had an advantageous barrier draw tonight it was the intention to drive the gelding positively and ideally lead throughout. He said that, however the gelding failed to race genuinely when racing in the lead and when placed under pressure inside the final 400 metres his runner failed to respond whilst under driving, gave ground and was disappointing. He said that, the gelding is better suited to racing with cover and would expect improvement in its future starts if driven more conservatively.
WYATTFLYNN – Examined by the veterinarian upon arrival, after connections raised concerns with the gelding’s condition. The examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from colic and as such was treated by the on-course veterinarian. Acting on veterinary advice, WYATTFLYNN was declared a late withdrawal at 7:50pm. Further, WYATTFLYNN was stood down for a period of 28 days in addition to requiring a veterinary clearance prior to racing and/or trialling again. Stewards will follow up with the stable in the days subsequent in respect to the gelding’s recovery.

FAVOURITEHIGHLIGHT – Pre-race swab sample.
MARKLEIGH CAZ – Pre-race blood sample. Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian in accordance with HRV’s animal welfare policy due to the mare having competed in excess of 200 starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination. Post-race swab sample.
MICTON MOUSE – Pre-race blood sample. Held up for clear running during the early stages of the run to the finish.
