Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

RACE 1 BOB KNIGHT MEMORIAL 2022 PACE (2180 MS)

Cool Rocking Daddy (Damian Wilson) & Vanquish Stride NZ (Ryan Sanderson) were both out of position the start was effected and were both issued warning against their starting positions.

Hayden Bromac NZ (Robert Walters) & Standbyme (Jordan Leedham) locked wheels shortly after the start was effected and when disengaging Hayden Bromac NZ shifted inwards marginally simultaneously as Standbyme progressed forward shifted outwards marginally resulting in the nearside hind leg of Hayden Bromac NZ being contacted and the gelding being checked and breaking gait checking Allshookup, Nerano NZ & Cool Rocking Daddy all to varying degrees which were following. As stewards considered that no driver or horse was responsible for this incident, no further action was deemed necessary.

Stewards inquired into the reasons for Kosimo (Ellen Tormey) breaking gait approaching the 400m. After taking evidence from drivers Ellen Tormey (Kosimo) Jordan Leedham (Standbyme) & Kate Gath (Mr Bohannon NZ) and viewing the available replays it was established that Kosimo when trailing Hayden Bromac NZ shifted outwards marginally when that runner was being directed to a marker line position simultaneously as Mr Bohannon NZ which was progressing three (3) wide hung inwards marginally resulting in Kosimo contacting the wheel of Mr Bohannon NZ and broke gait. Due to the minimal shift from multiple runners’ stewards could not place blame against either runner nor driver and noted the incident.

Nerano NZ (Blake Jones) was held up during the early stages of the home straight.

Jordan Leedham, driver of Stanbyme ($16.00) which finished in 10th position beaten 48.4m after racing behind the leader for majority of the event was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the gelding after yielding ground from the 700m. Mr Leedham could offer tangible explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding displaying Atrial Fibrillation in accordance with AHR Rule 101C (2)(a) Stanbyme will now be stood down from racing for a period of fourteen (14) days undergo an ECG and trial to the satisfaction of stewards on one (1) occasion.

RACE 2 ROGER REEVES MEMORIAL 2022 WINTER TROTTERS CUP (1ST HEAT) (2180 MS)

Sultan Sass (Codi Rauchenberger) broke gait shortly after the start was effected and will now be excluded from the barrier draw in future mobile start events.

Naked Ambition (Jodi Quinlan) pulled hard during the middle stages of the event & broke gait clear of interference passing the 800m.

Stewards inquired into the reasons for My Used To Be (Lisa Miles) breaking gait approaching the 400m checking Beau Garcon & Peakz Luck to varying degrees. After taking evidence from Ms Miles and Anthony Butt (Kyvalley Clichy) and viewing the available replays it was established that My Used To Be broke gait of its own accord simultaneously as Kyvalley Clichy which was crossing in advance.

RACE 3 – LELI & MARY MIFSUD MEMORIAL 2022 WINTER TROTTERS CUP (2ND HEAT) (2180 MS)

Lochie Cook, driver of Imamaorijet was fined the sum of $200 under AHR Rule 162(1)(h) for failing to come up into position throughout the score up resulting in the mare being significantly out of position when the start was effected.

Kheiron (James Herbertson) broke gait clear of interference approaching the 1900m.

Norquay (Leigh Sutton) broke gait clear of interference approaching the 200m.

Parisian Artiste (Tayla French) hung outwards under pressure from the 200m.

Lady In The Sky NZ (Nathan Jack) broke gait under pressure clear of interference approaching the 100m.

Anthony Butt, driver of Kyvalley Hotspur NZ ($7.00) which finished in 9th position beaten 33.8m was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the entire. Mr Butt explained the entire had been disappointing this campaign since resuming in its trials along with its first up performance on the 24th June 2022. Mr Butt advised the Kyvalley Hotspur NZ failed to trot fluently around the turns which resulted in the entire losing ground in particular within the final lap with the last 800m being recorded in 57 seconds. Mr Butt added Kyvalley Hotspur NZ would derive benefit from the performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 4 – KEN 'SNOWY' CHAPMAN MEMORIAL 2022 3YO PACE (1690 MS)

Matthew Craven, trainer of Banksofthemurray was fined the sum of $100 under AHR Rule 273(6)(a) for presenting the gelding wearing the incorrect saddlecloth number into the parade ring.

RACE 5 - VIN KNIGHT MEMORIAL 2022 PACE (2180 MS)

Cody Crossland, driver of Ultimate Hughey was fined the sum of $100 under AHR Rule 162(1)(j) for failing to maintain his position until the start was effected.

Accelere NZ (Tayla French) pulled hard throughout the event.

Lance Justice, driver of Love Ina Chevy NZ & Kate Gath, driver of Yumbukian were questioned into the reasons for Yumbukian racing four (4) wide from the 1500m. After hearing evidence from both drivers and viewing the available replays, it was established that Mr Justice had directed Love Ina Chevy NZ into a three (3) wide position prior to Yumbukian improving to his sulky wheel and Yumbukian had been shifted wider by its driver of its own accord. Stewards deemed no further action was deemed necessary.

Tayla French, driver of Accelere NZ ($10.00) which finished in 11th position beaten 41.2m was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the gelding. Ms French attributed the performance to the gelding being first up since 23rd April 2022 and the gelding pulling extremely hard from the 1400m onwards. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lesion to the near fore malleolus carpus. Accelere NZ will now be stood down from racing for a period of fourteen (14) days.

Lance Justice, driver of Love Ina Chevy NZ ($51.00) which finished in 12th and last position beaten 57.5m was queried into the tactics adopted upon the gelding in particular his decision to improve three (3) wide at the 1500m and the gelding racing three (3) wide thereafter. Mr Justice advised Accelere NZ (Tayla French) which was racing outside the leader however some distance away was indicating it was seeking cover therefore he elected to improve forward in an attempt to obtain the position outside the leader and would surrender the position to Yumbukian (Kate Gath) which was improving into the event. However, when he directed three (3) wide Ms French improved forward at which point he felt Ms French would not be surrendering the position and attempted to shift back to his vacated position however Cheyella (Damian Wilson) had improved forward to occupy the position and therefore he progressed forward at the 1200m in a further attempt to obtain the position outside the leader but Accelere NZ commence to pull harder and Ms French was having difficulty restraining the gelding at which point he took immediate restraint to allow the gelding respite prior to yielding ground over the latter stages. After viewing the available replays which supported his comments stewards felt the tactics adopted were not unreasonable in the circumstances and noted his explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slower than normal recovery.

RACE 6 – JET ROOFING WINTER CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL (GROUP 3) (2180 MS)

American Legacy NZ (Anthony Butt) broke gait during the early stages of the score up and was out of position when the start was effected. American Legacy will now be excluded from the barrier draw in future mobile starts events.

RACE 7 – POPULAR ALM SPRINT (1690 MS)

Diamonds N Cash (Robert Walters) & Boncel Benjamin (Leigh Sutton) jostled passing the 200m.

Nathan Jack, driver of Honolua Bay pleaded guilty to a charge under AHR Rule 163(1)(b)(i) which reads: Subject to rule 164 make another horse cover more ground than necessary the particulars of the charge being approaching the 1200m when in a running line position Mr Jack directed Honolua Bay three (3) when insufficiently clear of Supreme Dominator NZ (James Herbertson) which had progressed to his sulky wheel and being forced wider on the track than necessary. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the relevant considerations as outlined within the HRV Stewards Minimum Penalty Guidelines placing particular weight on Mr Jack’s guilty plea along with the low degree of carelessness. Mr Jack’s licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) days which was deemed to commence midnight 1st August 2022.

RACE 8 – BOB CAIN MEMORIAL 2022 VICBRED PACE (1690 MS)

Cemetery Bay (Tayla French) shifted out under pressure inside the final 100m which inconvenienced Barrett (Shannon O’Sullivan) which locked wheels with Shoshone Brave (Leigh Sutton) just prior to the finish line.

RACE 9 – DON LOGIE MEMORIAL 2022 PACE (2180 MS)

Jack Laugher, driver of Pocket Thedeal NZ was fined the sum of $100 under AHR Rule 156(3) for applying the whip to the gelding on more occasions than permitted inside the final 200m.

Bailey McDonough, driver of Celestial Trekker ($13.00) which yielded ground rapidly from the 600m to finish in 8th and last position beaten 57.8m after racing behind the leader for majority of the event was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the gelding. Mr McDonough advised he was at a loss to explain the performance and could offer no tangible explanation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 10– DON DOVE MEMORIAL 2022 3YO TROT (2180 MS)

Im Above The Law was declared a late scratching at 6:20pm on veterinary advice.
