Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
RACE 1 – TAB PACE (2180 MS)
CALEDONIAN TERRA– momentarily paced roughly near the 200m.
BRONSKI ROYAL– sulky contacted approaching the 200m. Driver Sergio Lenardi pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference. The particulars of the charge being that approaching the 200m, Mr Lenardi permitted his drive to shift in from a three wide position when insufficiently clear of LUNA DREAM (J Herbertson) causing that mare to contact the nearside sulky wheel of BRONSKI ROYAL, blunder and momentarily pace roughly. Mr Lenardi’s licence to drive in races was suspended for 7 days to commence midnight 10 October 2024. In assessing penalty Stewards considered Mr Lenardi’s guilty plea, good record and the degree of interference.
SHALLOW BEACH– restrained from barrier 3 after the start to occupy a trailing marker pegline position towards the rear of the field. Gave ground over the latter stages to finish in 10th position beaten 32m. Driver Ian McMahon explained that after recently performing well in lower grade he elected to restrain given the manner in which the rig approached the barrier. Mr McMahon added that the SHALLOW BEACH didn’t race overly strongly and failed to run on despite his urgings. Post-race veterinary examination revealed the rig to have the thumps.
WRITTENINTHESKY– hung in during the score up and then raced greenly in the lead through the middle stages.

Passing the 1300m, hung in and raced erratically. Hung out at the entrance to the back straight on the final occasion. Tired (102m) over the concluding stages. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Considering the racing manners displayed and overall performance, the gelding was stood down from racing until the satisfactory completion of one (1) trial. GOZO MAJOR– tired (54m) over the concluding stages and a warning was issued against the performance.
