STEWARDS REPORT FOR KILMORE

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

RACE 1 MOMENTUM GAMING PACE (2180 MS)

Taffy Smith which had not started in a race since February 2018 was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Dabyminga was fractious in the early part of the score up and a warning was issued against the barrier manners of the gelding.

Treacheroustimes hung in and contacted marker pegs when leading approaching the 400m.

Regality lost ground near the winning post with one lap remaining resulting in Cobargo Grin being inconvenienced and that gelding making incidental contact with the offside sulky wheel of Regality causing Cobargo Grin to momentarily pace roughly which in turn resulted in Hard Rock Shannon being inconvenienced.

Noel Shinn, driver of Regality was questioned regarding his driving tactics and the performance of the mare which finished in 8th position beaten 15.4m. Mr Shinn explained that Regality was inclined to over-race during the early and middle stages and as the pace quickened approaching and passing the 1200m Regality lost some ground when in a position in the running line and as such Kellys Ideal was able to improve away from a position on the marker pegline. Mr Shinn added that Regality again lost some ground near the winning post with one lap remaining and as he considered that Kellys Ideal was under some pressure racing into the back straight on the final occasion he then elected to direct Regality to a position on the marker pegline. Mr Shinn further explained that due to this he was then unable to improve wider on the track until passing the 300m, where thereafter Regality was held up when unable to obtain a clear run until inside the 100m. A subsequent veterinary examination of Regality revealed no apparent abnormalities. Mr Shinn’s explanation was recorded if required for future reference.

Cobargo Grin was held up for a clear run rounding the final turn.  

Stewards intend to review the wagering activity on this event.

RACE 2 MC SECURITY PACE (1690 MS)

Good Feelings which has competed in more than 200 races was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Blake Pace, driver of Schnappshot was cautioned for the manner in which he shifted ground into a three wide position approaching the 800m which caused Four Lonely Nights (C Alford) to be inconvenienced when steadied wider on the track. In not taking further action, Stewards took into account the severity of any inconvenience suffered to Four Lonely Nights and that driver Chris Alford (Four Lonely Nights) then elected to continue to progress four wide of his own accord racing into the back straight on the final occasion.

Heidi Go Seek, Denstown NZ and Paddy Mach all had some difficulty in obtaining a clear run in the home straight.

Heidi Go Seek dropped its off side knee boot during the event.

RACE 3 – WORLDS BEST HOOF OIL 3YO TROT (2180 MS)

Luke Dunne was approved as a late driving replacement for Jack McKinnon (indisposed) on Alfie Always.

Queen Of Quebec was out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

Arcee Phoenix shifted in slightly when leading at the entrance to the home straight and when doing so contacted a marker peg. This resulted in Cravache Dor which was following also contacting a marker peg. As this had not affected the outcome of the race, no further action was taken.

Atego Dawn tired to be beaten 75m and a warning was issued against the performance.

My Bad Habits and Queen Of Quebec galloped clear of interference in the home straight. Given the prior records, a warning was issued against the racing manners of Queen Of Quebec.

RACE 4 – CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES PACE (1690 MS)

Border Cross and Southern GNP NZ which have competed in more than 200 races were examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Realy Under Fire which is 12 years of age and has competed in more than 200 races was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Christopher Shinn replaced Brad Chisholm (indisposed) as the driver of Elzboy.

White Star Village was held up prior to utilising the sprint lane to finish in 2nd place.

Roxy Royale was held up for a clear run in the home straight.

Son Of Zodiac was held up for a clear run rounding the final turn and in the early part of the home straight.

When queried in relation to the seemingly improved performance of the winner (Southern GNP NZ) Robert Walters, driver and representative for trainer Ben Yole advised that in his opinion the gelding may not have backed up suitably last start at Kilmore (2/6/22) from its prior engagement at Horsham (30/5/22) where the gelding had suffered interference in that event. Mr Walters added that Southern GNP NZ had recovered satisfactorily since its most recent start, he had given the gelding a light week and was aided by being driven conservatively. Swab samples were obtained from Southern GNP NZ.                                                                        

RACE 5 - JET ROOFING PACE (2180 MS)

Miss Tyler hung in shortly after the start.

Pas Guarantee pulled hard during the middle stages when positioned outside of the leader.

It was noted that Our Kinky Boots contacted the final marker peg prior to the entrance to the home straight.

Sweet Creation led before commencing to give ground racing down the back straight on the final occasion causing Havana and Miss Tyler to be inconvenienced. Sweet Creation tired to be beaten approximately 82m to finish at the rear of the field. Glenn Bull, trainer and driver of Sweet Creation had no tangible explanation for the performance. A veterinary examination of Sweet Creation revealed no apparent abnormal findings. Sweet Creation was placed on its last chance to race competitively.

Havana and Miss Tyler were beaten approximately 73m and 58m respectively, however no action was taken for the performances due to the inconvenience suffered as Sweet Creation gave ground.

RACE 6 – BERALDO COFFEE PACE FINAL (2180 MS)

Mark Pitt replaced Brad Chisholm (indisposed) as the driver of Lalibela NZ.

Sweet Miracle hung in racing into the first turn causing Lalibela NZ to be momentarily inconvenienced.

Sweet Miracle pulled hard during the middle stages when positioned outside of the leader.

Celestia paced roughly and galloped clear of interference passing the 600m causing Lola Montez to be inconvenienced. Celestia was placed on its last chance to race truly.

Lalibela NZ was held up rounding the final turn and in the early part of the home straight.

Galactic Gal was held up for a clear run prior to utilising the sprint lane in the home straight.

Drivers Jack Laugher (Digyourheelsin) and Nathan Jack (Sweet Miracle) were cautioned for their respective conduct upon pulling up after the completion of this race.

RACE 7 – C&M BUILD GROUP TROT (2180 MS)

Abbie was out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

Elegant Peak NZ pulled hard during the early and middle stages.

Stewards refrained from pursuing action against Neville Pangrazio, driver of Tequila Bree for the first half of the last mile being recorded in 66 seconds. In not taking action, Stewards took into account the substantially quicker than average lead time of 42.3 seconds being recorded.

Luna trotted roughly rounding the final bend.

Neville Pangrazio, driver of Tequila Bree was fined $100 under rule 156(3) for using his whip in an unapproved manner in that he applied the whip on more occasions than permitted inside the 200m.

RACE 8 – BUDS & BRANCHES FLORIST TROT (1690 MS)

Evas Image trotted roughly for a short distance after the start causing Whos Countn which was following being checked and breaking gait in consequence. Whos Countn trailed the field thereafter. Evas Image was placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.

John Caldow, driver of Tipsy Turvy was fined $100 under rule 162(1)(y) for failing to adhere to the sectional time requirements when leading through the second quarter in 33.9 seconds, outside the required time of 32.5 seconds or faster for this event.

The Sargent trotted roughly approaching the home straight.

Queen Invasion was held up rounding the final turn, brushed a marker peg before then utilising the sprint lane to finish in 2nd place.

Glenn Hunter, driver of Sovereign Tiger was fined $100 under rule 156(3) for using his whip in an unapproved manner in that he applied the whip on more occasions than permitted inside the 200m.
