QUIRKY CHARACTER – Re-handicapped under the provisions of AHRR 15(1)(w) and was ordered to start from the outside of the front row, after it was identified that a clerical error had incorrectly drawn the gelding within the barrier draw after being excluded from the mobile draw at its most recent start on the 26/10/25. Broke the crupper strap connecting to the saddle during the preliminary, which necessitated a gear replacement being undertaken and consequently delayed the start. The gear was inspected post-race by Stewards and found to be of suitable quality. In view of the circumstances no action was taken. Inconvenienced leaving the 800 metres when MONEY TALKS broke gait.
ZIPTIE – Inconvenienced leaving the 800 metres when MONEY TALKS broke gait. Weakened inside the final 650 metres to be beaten 102.9 metres. When questioned regarding the performance and the driving tactics employed during the early stages, trainer/driver S Hall explained that, with the gelding being third-up from a spell today connections endeavoured to adopt similar tactics to when the gelding was most recently successful last preparation when leading throughout and believed that the runners drawn to its inside had inferior gate speed in comparison to the gelding. He said that, however the gelding began fairly and failed to muster the required speed in order to cross the field in the early stages, then when MEGABAND NZ improved forward of his runner rounding the first turn he was confident that his runner would obtain cover from that point, however that runner was able to cross to the lead which left the gelding in an unfavourable position outside of the leader. He said that, from that point he attempted to gain cover and restrained the gelding in an effort to indicate the position was available to which TOUGH MATE ultimately worked forward and afforded the gelding cover from the 1000 metres. He added that, given the distance the gelding raced outside of the leader and the extra distance covered away from the marker pegs he believed that this proved detrimental to the overall performance and ultimately weakened from the 600 metres, then became unresponsive from that point. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. After consideration, Stewards did not feel the tactics adopted were unreasonable in the circumstances and in view of the overall performance, ZIPTIE was stood down to one re-qualifying trial.
LILLYS TIGER – Post-race swab sample.
RACE 6 – MC LABOUR PACE (2180 MS)

OUR TRUE COLOURS – Passing the 800 metres, improved onto and contacted the near-side sulky wheel of MISS PIGGY WIGGY resulting in the mare having to be checked and broke gait which in turn caused FEEL THE REIGN to be checked and raced roughly. Subsequently, driver O Jardine was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances and allow a greater distance when trailing other runners. In not taking more severe action, Stewards were mindful that the racing manners of the mare contributed to the incident when improving forward at that point.
FEEL THE REIGN – Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian in accordance with HRV’s animal welfare policy due to the rig having competed in excess of 200 starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination. Checked and raced roughly passing the 800 metres when trailing OUR TRUE COLOURS which was checked and broke gait after making contact with the near-side sulky wheel of MISS PIGGY WIGGY.
FOXYONTHERUN – Gave ground over the concluding stages to be beaten some distance. Driver L Emerson reported post-race that given the work the mare endured during the early and middle stages when racing wider on the track, this tolled on his runner from the 400 metres and ultimately failed to quicken when placed under pressure.
