Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

RACE 1 – WEST SIDE TRIVIA NIGHT TUE 23/4 2YO PACE (1700 MS)

MOONIE RIVER – hung out after the start. Held up rounding the final turn before winning the event.

LUCYS WATCH– near side hopple loop came adrift near the 500m, however had no tangible effect thereafter. This gear was inspected and found to be of suitable quality and condition.

RACE 2 –  WOODLANDS STUD NZ TROTTERS HANDICAP (2200 SS)

SALUTE TO SUNNY – broke gait after the start and will be placed outside the standing start draw. Hung in and trotted roughly before galloping clear of interference approaching the 600m and remained in a gallop for some distance thereafter. Placed on its last chance to race truly for galloping.

MAORI DUCHESS – Michael Bellman replaced Anthony Butt (unavailable) as the driver. Stewards noted the explanation provided by trainer Brian Kiesey for the late driver replacement. Broke gait after the start and will be placed outside the standing start draw. Galloped clear of interference near the 1600m, trailed the field thereafter and considering the time elapsed since its most recent indiscretion, was placed on its last chance to race truly.

SHEZAGEM– trotted roughly inside the 100m.

MACHO MAORI – slow to begin and then broke gait after the start and will continue to be placed outside the standing start draw.

B D YASOTHON NZ – galloped clear of interference approaching the 600m and again in the home straight. Placed on its last chance to race truly.

ZAFFAR– tired (54m) over the latter stages and a warning was issued against the performance of the gelding.

MISS INVINCIBLE– hung out and paced roughly in the latter part of the score up. Out of position at the start and was placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw. Galloped clear of interference near the 1400m, trailed the field thereafter and was placed on its last chance to race truly.

SHIKOBA– galloped in the early part of the score up and was placed on its last chance in the barrier draw.

RACE 4 – WORLDS BERST HOOF OIL MAIDEN PACE (1700 MS)

FUEGO CRUZADO– inconvenienced and held up for a clear run rounding the final turn.

ROCKNROLL STARDOM– gave ground over the concluding stages.

MY BELLA– Jordan Leedham replaced Luke Dunne (unavailable) as the driver.

REMMINGTON– began badly and will be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

ZERO DOUBT– checked and broke gait shortly after the start.

RACE 5 THE WEEKLY ADVERTISER PACE (2200 MS)

General

The start of this race was delayed due to an incident occurring after the conduct of Race 4 involving TIL HEAVENS ROCKN NZ.

Due to the track becoming rain affected, the mobile barrier was satisfactorily tested.

TIL HEAVENS ROCKN NZ– late scratching at 2:50pm on veterinary advice. Shortly after the conduct of Race 4, TIL HEAVENS ROCKN NZ became extremely fractious when being led around the pre-parade ring, resulting in the gelding becoming loose and proceeding out of the parade ring and unrestrained out of the racecourse precinct. After proceeding a considerable distance, the gelding was subsequently captured and transported back onto the racecourse and after being examined by the veterinarian, which identified some minor lacerations, the gelding was administered pain relief. TIL HEAVENS ROCKN NZ was stood down from racing for 7 days and until a veterinary clearance has been provided for the gelding. Numerous participants, officials and club personnel were interviewed in relation to this incident and consequently the Horsham Harness Racing Club in conjunction with HRV OH&S representatives, will ensure further preventative measures are implemented to avoid a reoccurrence.

JILLIBY ADORE– due to the mare not having started in a race since August 2021, was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Held up for a clear run in the home straight.

HUGO ROCKS– hung in and paced roughly at the entrance to the home straight. Due to the deteriorating track condition, no action was taken.

COTCHINELLIE – paced roughly after the start. Due to the deteriorating track condition, no action was taken.

ROSARITO MISS– galloped clear of interference approaching the first turn and trailed the field thereafter. Due to the deteriorating track condition, no action was taken.

RACE 6 – VALE TOM BURDETT PACE (1700MS)

General

Due to the deteriorating track condition, Stewards, drivers and club personnel conducted a track inspection with concerns identified around the condition of the track near the 150m, between the 400m and 200m and near the 500m. After attempting some track remedial work and conducting a further assessment of the track, at approximately 3:55pm, Races 6 – 9 were abandoned, due to the state of the track which was no longer considered suitable or safe for racing purposes.
