Late Report: At the Maryborough meeting held on Sunday 4th January 2026, Stewards questioned driver Ashley Manton in regard to the tactics he adopted on MAYWYNS JEWELL, in race 7 at Horsham on Sunday 7th December 2025. Mr. Manton was questioned to the reasons why he continued to apply pressure to the leader JILLIBY KYMY LOU after the first sections were run in a very competitive manner, including a first quarter of 26.9. Mr. Manton attempted to find the lead leaving the front straight on the first occasion when it was evident that the position was not going to be available to him. Maywyns Jewel then sat off the leader until the 600m mark where it began to give ground rapidly. A subsequent veterinary examination on the day found no abnormalities. Mr. Manton put forward that Maywyns Jewel runs its best races when leading, but also was able to perform well when outside the leader. He felt that after Maywyns Jewel's trackwork leading up to the event, it could run times similar to those ran in the event in question and still be competitive. Mr. Manton put forward that Maywyns Jewel was found to have a virus the following day and was treated for mucus discharge. Stewards adjourned the inquiry and requested that Mr. Manton provide information on the virus including log book entries and evidence of purchase of medicines to treat the mare.
Late Report: Mr Manton supplied Stewards with a log book showing that Maywyns Jewel had been treated and also proof of purchase of the medication given to Maywyns Jewel. Mr. Manton was reminded of his obligations in regard to notify Stewards of anything that may have affected the performance of any runner.
Mr. Manton was cautioned for his lack of judgement in the race in question as Stewards felt he over drove Maywyns Jewel in the middle stages of the event after working hard in the early stages. He was notified that any repitition of such a drive could see action taken againts his licence.

R9 - TRACTION AG OWNER FOR A DAY PACE
General: This event ran approximately 3 minutes late due to a rein burr being reattached to UBETONRED.
UBETONRED – Tired over the concluding stages. A subsequent veterinary examination found no abnormalities. Driver Andrew Clarke was cautioned for his lack of judgement in the early stages of the event. Mr. Clarke continued to hold the lead while being pressured by more favoured runners in the early stages with the sprint lane being available if needed in the run to the finish. UBETONRED was the outsider of the field and was resuming from a short let up. Mr. Clarke agreed in hindsight that surrendering the lead in the early stages would have been the better option. Stewards notified Mr. Clarke that a similar drive in the future could see action taken against his licence.
GUNFORHIRE – Checked behind a tiring runner leaving the back straight on the final occasion.
NAKULA – Broke in the early stages of the score-up and trailed the field. Placed outside the draw in future mobile barrier events.
