Trainers with multiple runners in any one race were questioned in relation to their intended tactics. Further, all horses engaged in Race 5, the TABTOUCH WA Pacing Cup were placed under surveillance from 8am this morning until arriving on-course two hours prior to the advertised starting time.
RACE 1 – BARBAGALLO LEADERS IN MOTORING EXCELLENCE PACE (1730MS)
MIKIS BEACH (J Callaghan) – Broke gait after the start. The gelding will now be placed out of the draw for future mobile events. Raced tightly for a short distance with WHATARETHEODDS (K Symington) and then broke gait in the back straight on the final occasion. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no abnormalities.
General: Drivers K Symington (WHATARETHEODDS) and J Callaghan (MIKIS BEACH) were interviewed in relation to the reason for MIKIS BEACH breaking gait in the back straight on the final occasion. It was established that WHATARETHEODDS was taken outwards slightly to improve its position with MIKIS BEACH attempting to hold its position and consequently both runners raced tightly for a short distance with MIKIS BEACH then breaking gait. No blame was attributed to any driver for this incident and no further action was taken.
RACE 2 – BARBAGALLO MASERATI (DIV.1) PACE (2130MS)
LAMANDIER (D Roberts) – Raced tightly, bumped and unbalanced and then broke gait leaving the back straight on the final occasion.
DUTY BOUND NZ (C Voak) – Gave ground from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer Ms J Hayman was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing or trialling again.
General: Drivers D Roberts (LAMANDIER) and A De Campo (BELLEZZA NERA) were interviewed regarding the reason for LAMANDIER breaking gait leaving the back straight on the final occasion. Driver A De Campo (BELLEZZA NERA) pleaded guilty to a charge of causing interference under HR163(1)(a)(iii) for allowing BELLEZZA NERA to shift outwards causing contact to LAMANDIER which became unbalanced and then broke gait. Mr De Campo subsequently had his license to drive in races suspended for a period of 9 days to commence at midnight on Friday, 15 November 2024 and to expire at midnight Sunday, 24 November 2024. When determining penalty, Stewards considered Mr De Campo’s good record under this rule with his last suspension being in May 2024, his guilty plea, and the low to mid level of carelessness and interference involved.
RACE 3 – BARBAGALLO JAGUAR PACE (2130MS)
CONEY ISLAND LOU NZ (S McDonald) – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which performed in a disappointing manner revealed no abnormalities. Driver S McDonald stated that the gelding had over-raced which was detrimental to its performance and added that the stable would now consider a gear change for future starts in an endeavour to rectify its racing manner.
RACE 4 – BARBAGALLO NORMS DAUGHTER CLASSIC (G2) PACE (2130MS)
LITTLE DARLING (C Lewis) – The removable deafeners failed to release at the first attempt by Driver C Lewis at the turn into the front straight on the final occasion before then releasing near the 100m.
RACE 5 – TABTOUCH WA PACING CUP (G1) PACE (2536MS)
PINNY TIGER (C Voak) – Gave ground from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. When questioned in relation to the unplaced performance, Driver C Voak stated that although the gelding had over-raced throughout running it was very disappointing in coming under pressure from the 500m and losing ground from thereon and failing to finish off the race as well as expected. Trainer M Brennan advised that he would monitor the gelding’s recovery and report any abnormalities to the Stewards.
JUMPINGJACKMAC NZ (S McDonald) – Tightened and inconvenienced in the back straight on the final occasion.
General: Due to PINNY TIGER commencing to tire from the 500m, SANGUE REALE (S Suvaljko), MIGHTY RONALDO (J Prentice) and LAVRA JOE (K Harper) were all significantly inconvenienced in being carried backwards through this section of the race.
RACE 6 – BARBAGALLO LAMBORGHINI WA PACING CUP CONSOLATION PACE (2536MS)
FLYING RUMOUR (S Suvaljko) – Returned with a flat tyre after its sulky was contacted by CORDERO (K Harper) at the turn into the front straight on the final occasion.
CORDERO (K Harper) – Contacted the sulky wheel of FLYING RUMOUR (S Suvaljko) at the turn into the front straight on the final occasion and broke gait. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
General: Drivers S Suvaljko (FLYING RUMOUR) and K Harper (CORDERO) were interviewed in relation to an incident at the turn into the front straight on the final occasion and it was ascertained that FLYING RUMOUR (S Suvaljko) shifted up the track slightly, with CORDERO (K Harper) then improving quickly to the inside of that gelding in anticipation of obtaining clear running, however FLYING RUMOUR then shifted back inwards when following ALCOPONY (R Warwick) and as a result CORDERO was tightened for room and contacted and flattened the tyre of FLYING RUMOUR and broke gait as a result despite the efforts Driver K Harper in endeavouring to steady his drive to avoid becoming tightened. After consideration, Stewards were of the opinion that no driver was careless in their actions and no further action was taken.
