WAVERIDER (K Symington) – Contacted the sulky of INSTA GATOR (J Young) in the front straight to receive the bell and raced roughly, losing ground resulting in MANDOWN NZ (G Hall Jnr) being severely checked and breaking gait with CALIENTE (C Voak) being checked and HALE SAINT LOUIE NZ (D Egerton-Green) severely checked and breaking gait. MANDOWN NZ returned with a minor laceration to the near fore.
General: Driver K Symington (WAVERIDER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving under HR168(1)(a) and was fined $300. When assessing penalty, Stewards considered the racing manner of WAVERIDER which commenced to race keenly when GOLDEN LODE NZ (S McDonald) was making ground to its outside with this being a contributing factor in the incident, his guilty plea, prior good record under the rule, the low degree of carelessness, and high level of interference.

Mr Young stated that ACUSHLA MACHREE NZ was well suited in the race as it had drawn barrier one and he was confident of it leading and performing well, however after winning at Gloucester Park later that day, the mare became inappetent and he was therefore not satisfied with its suitability to start and consequently withdrew the mare on Thursday, 5 December 2024. Mr Young added that the mare will now be given a lengthy spell. After considering the explanation given, no further action was taken.
