General:
Stewards inquired into the reason for HOPPYS WAY NZ receiving interference racing out of the back straight on the first occasion. Evidence was taken from Drivers M. Grantham (SWINGBAND), A. De Campo (THE MIKI TAKER), and S.Suvaljko (HOPPYS WAY NZ). Driver M. Grantham subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under HR163 (1)(a)(iii) for causing interference with the particulars being that he allowed SWINGBAND to shift down the track when not clear of THE MIKI TAKEER causing that gelding to be tightened and carried inwards with the near side sulky wheel making contact on several occasions to the legs of HOPPYS WAY resulting in that colt breaking gait. In this incident MAUNGATAHI (D Egerton-Green) was checked in consequence. Mr Grantham’s licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of 16 days from midnight Friday, 5 August 2022 to midnight Sunday, 21 August 2022. . When assessing penalty, Stewards considered the mid to high degree of carelessness, the high degree of interference, his guilty plea, and prior record which showed suspensions under the same rule in February and April 2022.
