Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

RACE 1 DEVCON PROPERTIES MAIDEN PACE (2100 MS)

Kool Kari broke for a brief period during the early stages of the score up.

Charlies Heir tired over the concluding stages to be beaten in excess of 100m. In view of its recent record, Charlies Heir will now be stood down from racing for a period of 10 days and until trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards.

Snazzyron tired over the concluding stages to be beaten in excess of 100m. Snazzyron will now be stood down from racing until trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards.

Michael Cole, driver of Rocknroll Upton, was cautioned for careless driving in that passing the 1600m he permitted the mare to make contact with the sulky of Kool Kari. In not taking more severe action, Stewards were mindful the speed of the event eased and Rocknroll Upton was over-racing which contributed.

Glen Craven, driver of Fullofit, was fined $200 under Rule 156(3) for using the whip in an unapproved manner in that inside the final 200m he applied the whip on more occasions than permitted.  In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Mr Craven had one relevant offence.

Codi Rauchenberger, driver of Charlies Heir, was cautioned for applying the whip while out of winning or placing contention inside the final 800m.

RACE 2 HARAS DES TROTTEURS MAIDEN TROT (2100 MS)

Timely Invasion underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with HRV Policy due to the gelding not having started since December 2020. Neither examination revealed any significant findings.

The all clear of this event was delayed to allow Stewards the opportunity to review the available replays in relation to Touchandgo (4th past the post) breaking gait approaching the 100m. In accordance with the mandatory provisions of VLR 155A, Touchandgo was relegated to 5th placing behind Mont Sally which had ‘covered’ Touchandgo as it passed the finish in the incorrect gait. The all clear was subsequently given on the amended placings of 1st – 5 Aldebaran Gwen, 2nd – 4 In Ardua Tendit, 3rd – Roll With Rosco and 4th – 8 Mont Sally.

Thats My Armbro broke clear of interference passing the 1900m. Trainer Ross Healy reported the half hopples on the gelding lengthened after the start resulting in the gelding breaking gait. As this occurrence was verified on the available replays no action was taken.

Mont Sally hung in under pressure and contacted a marker peg approaching the 100m.

David Magri, driver of Columbias Deecee, pleaded guilty a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that passing the 1800m he permitted Columbias Deecee to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Brigitte Royale resulting in Brigitte Royale breaking gait as a consequence. In assessing penalty Stewards considered the relevant considerations as outlined within the HRV Stewards Minimum Penalty Guidelines placing weight on Mr Magri’s guilty plea, his good record (no offences in approximately 7 years) and the degree of interference. Stewards accordingly imposed a 2 week suspension of Mr Magri’s licence to drive in races which was ordered to commence immediately.

RACE 3 – MARK HAGEBOLS TROT (2100 MS)

Frosty Reception was out of position at the start and a warning was issued.

Whose Me Mum pulled hard during the middle stages.

Dicko Dixon was held up rounding the final turn and the early part of the straight.

Southbound Red tired over the concluding stages to be beaten 57m and a warning was issued.

RACE 4 – HAPPY 85TH BIRTHDAY ROBERT CHAPMAN 2YO MAIDEN TROT (2100 MS)

Moonwalka hung in during the score up and a warning was issued.

Woosh, which hung in and broke passing the 1200m, continued to hang in and despite the efforts of its driver raced inside the line of marker pegs passing the 900m and 300m. Post-race veterinary examination of Woosh failed to reveal any significant findings. Woosh will now be stood down from racing until trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards.

RACE 5 - ALLYSSA ANNETTE POSGATE PACE (1609 MS)

Just As Well NZ and Aliens Exist paced roughly approaching the first turn.

Jodi Quinlan, driver of The Big End Oftown, dropped her left foot after inadvertently contacting a marker peg passing the 900m.

Mark Pitt, driver of Mosaic Art NZ ($4.00), was questioned regarding the performance of the mare which finished in 10th and last placing beaten 32m. Mr Pitt explained that other than Mosaic Art NZ failing to travel during the early stages he was at a loss to explain the poor performance. Post-race veterinary examination of Mosaic Art NZ failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. The stable will be contacted in the coming days regarding the progress of the mare following the event.

RACE 6 – CAINYS PLUMBING & AG SERVICES VICBRED PACE (2100 MS)

Modern Bliss was inconvenienced when held up behind Cornish Smuggler rounding the final turn prior to utilising the sprint lane.

Declan Murphy, driver of Rosarito Beach, pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that approaching the 1900m he permitted Rosarito Beach to shift in when not clear of Hameldaeme resulting in that runner being checked and breaking gait and Mea Culpa, which was following, also being checked. In assessing penalty Stewards considered the relevant considerations as outlined within the HRV Stewards Minimum Penalty Guidelines placing weight on Mr Murphy’s guilty plea, his inexperience, his offence record (18 drives since last offence) and the degree of interference. Stewards accordingly imposed a 3 week suspension of Mr Murphy’s licence to drive in races which was ordered to commence midnight 25 July 2022.

RACE 7 – JIMS MOWING PACE (1609 MS)

Southern GNP NZ and Good Feelings underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with HRV Policy due to both runners having started in more than 200 races. No abnormalities were detected.

Tony Calabria, driver of Caruso Star, was fined $200 under Rule 156(2)(a) in that passing the 200m he applied the whip with a freehand on one occasion.

James Herbertson, driver of Good Feelings, was cautioned for allowing his body to protrude outside the rear sulky confines between the 800m and 200m.

RACE 8 – VALE BILL TEESDALE PACE (1609 MS)

George Schembri, driver of Jasperine, was cautioned for failing to have the mare’s registration assessment certificate oncourse when required for inspection.

Jacks Command was fractious as the score up commenced and shifted out checking Illawong Danny. As Jacks Command filled its allotted barrier position prior to the start, Jacks Command was placed on its last chance in the draw.

Jasperine began badly resulting in Illawong Danny being inconvenienced after the start. Jasperine will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.
