Steward Report

Globe Derby Park – 22nd November 2025

Stewards:  S. Williams, S. Ewen, I. Devitt, S. Danaher, D. Kordick

Starter: N. Wilson

Mobile Driver: P. Butterworth

Veterinarian: Dr D. Sims

Weather: Showery

Track: Rain Effected

Trainers with multiple runners in any one race provided Stewards with their intentions prior to the event.

Due to inclement weather and heavy rainfall prior to the meeting, Stewards inspected the track two hours prior to race one, which included testing the mobile barrier and deemed the track safe for racing, however, drivers were requested to fit mudguards and splash sheets to their sulkies.

RACE 1 – HAHN SUPER DRY 3.5 TROTTERS MOBILE– 1800MS

Stewards questioned trainer R. Moore regarding the circumstances around the scratching of WYATTFLYNN in this event. R. Moore advised Stewards that the horse had been sold after acceptances and the gelding was withdrawn.

DUKE OF DUNDEE NZ – Showed gate speed to lead the event, however, driver B. Page elected to take a trail on the back of LAST TANGO IN HEAVEN NZ near the 1600 metres. Utilised the sprint lane when it became available and fully tested in the final straight.

CLASSIC LINE – Broke gait free of interference as the field raced into the first turn, was placed on its last chance to race truly.

PER ARDUA AD ASTRA – Galloped away when the start was effected, taking no competitive part in the race, due to the geldings standing start performances, placed on its last chance in standing start events. Will continue to be right out of the draw in standing start events.

RACE 2 – SEYMOUR GROUP 2YO TROTTERS MOBILE – 1800MS

SHIREEN – Showed gate speed to lead the event, then wanted to over-raced whilst leading.

ROCKING WITH CHARM – As per HRSA policy for horses aged 12 years or older, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to run.

SHIRLEY NOT – Stewards questioned driver D. Billinger, along with D. Smith (SUMMERDAYS) regarding an incident that appeared to occur as the field raced through the first turn, where driver D. Billinger had to check his drive to accommodate the movement of SUMMERDAYS who was attempting to move into the running line in advance of him.  After taking evidence from both drivers, reviewing the race replays and based on their own observations, it was determined that SUMMERDAYS had crossed SHIRLEY NOT with minimal clearance, however at the same time the pace had eased which resulted in D. Billinger having to check his runner to avoid an incident. Stewards did not believe a charge should be issued against D. Smith but issued a reprimanded under Rule 165(1)(b) for crossing towards the running line without sufficient clearance. SHIRLEY NOT had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres. Stewards questioned driver D. Billinger, along with L. Ryan (PLACES YOU DONT) regarding an incident that appeared to occur near the 300 metres, where SHIRLEY NOT was tightened for racing room and broke gait.  After taking evidence from both drivers, reviewing the race replays and based on their own observations, it was determined that multiple factors came into account, including PLACES YOU DONT hanging in slightly, along with TRUE BLUE ROSE (G. Pullicino) commencing to give ground and Mr Billinger attempting to move PLACES YOU DON’T wider on the track, to try and obtain a clear run, which eventually resulted in SHIRLEY NOT being tightened and its off side hind leg contacting the sulky wheel of PLACES YOU DONT and breaking gait. Stewards could not attribute fault to one driver but both drivers were reminded of their obligations with regard to allowing sufficient racing room and ensuring there was room to move into when attempting to take a run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed SHIRLEY NOT had sustained a superficial laceration to its off side hind leg but no treatment was necessary nor any stand down period.

DALLAS DALE - Raced fierce in the score up. Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, utilised the sprint lane when it became available and fully tested in the final straight.

RACE 3 –LADBROKES BET TICKER PACE – 1800MS

TOLD YOU TWICE – Was out of position as the start was effected, due to the inclement weather and poor visibility, no action was taken.

MAHARAJAH NZ - Was out of position as the start was effected, due to the inclement weather and poor visibility, no action was taken. Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, utilised the sprint lane when it became available and fully tested in the final straight.

RACE 4 - RAY WHITE COMMERCIAL ADELAIDE PACE– 1800MS

Stewards abandoned race 4 and onwards due to safety concerns raised by multiple drivers regarding the lack of visibility and the safety of the racing surface, due to the continuous rain throughout the afternoon and during the meeting. Initially, Stewards elected to go back one race, to allow the inclement weather to pass. Stewards then inspected the track and deemed it adequate to resume racing, however, during the preliminary of race 4, another heavy shower occurred and Stewards abandoned Race 4, along with all proceeding races.
