RACE 1 - TOBY RYAN EQUINE VETERINARY SERVICE TROTTERS DISC (NR 58 or better) – 2230SS

ENROLLED – Near the 2000 metres broke gait free of interference, warning issued.

ZIGZAGZOO NZ - Broke gait after the start, warning issued – Near the 100 metres contacted markers, no action taken.

IM HECTOR – Near the 1900 metres eased to the leaders back – Near the 1000 metres shifted to the running line, raced without cover for the remainder of the race – Inside the 200 metres broke gait under pressure, warning issued.

MAKE MINE MUSCLE – Slow out – Shortly after the start was checked and broke gait – Near the 700 metres broke gait free of interference, warning issued.

ALDEBARAN ALISSA NZ - Galloped out – Will continue to be excluded from the barrier draw in future standing start races.

CHAMPAGNE PRINCE NZ – Trainer L O’Neill reported that he was disappointed by the performance and the horse would have a break from racing.

RACE 2 - ADELAIDE EQUINE BREEDING CENTRE TROTTERS MOBILE (NR up to 57) – 2230MS

IRENE ROSE – Near 700 metres lost its position as WINSOME RUBY gave ground.

WINSOME RUBY – After leading, proved difficult to restrain – Near the 1900 metres surrendered the lead – From the 700 metres gave ground – Warning issued regarding the performance (Btn 56.5 mtrs).

SUPER ANGUS – After showing gate speed, worked forward to lead near the 1800 metres.

ILLAWONG PATRICK – Three wide early stages - Near the 2100 metres eased to the running line – Near the 1400 metres checked and broke gait.

KABAYO KING – Out of position at the start, will continue to be excluded from the barrier draw in future mobile races – From the 1700 metres worked forward three wide – From the 1300 metres raced outside leader - At various stages hung in and proved difficult to drive, afforded a last chance to race tractably.

FARBIO – Raced wide early stages – Over raced when restrained to the rear near the 1800 metres.

LOVELORN – Near the 200 metres tightened over markers when racing inside KABAYO KING which hung in – Used sprint lane.

GREAT FANTASY NZ - Broke gait after the start, will continue to be excluded from the barrier draw in future mobile races – Near the 1900 metres hung in, contacted markers, warning issued.

Stewards reviewed an incident near the 1400 metres in which ILLAWONG PATRICK (R Hryhorec) broke gait when racing tight inside KABAYO KING (A Chapman).  After reviewing the vision and considering the evidence of R Hryhorec who was of the opinion ILLAWONG PATRICK wasn’t comfortable racing in restricted room and may have shifted out of its own accord.  Accounting for the racing manners of KABAYO KING, Stewards advised A Chapman that in similar circumstances future she would be required to demonstrate that a genuine attempt had been made to relieve pressure.

RACE 3 - DR PRATUL EQUINE VET SERVICES PACE (NR 60 to 69) – 1800MS

The start of the race was delayed owing to CLARENDEN ENVOY (C Johnson) leaving the track after completing its preliminary.  The Driver explained that the reins initially provided were unsuitable long.  Stewards considered that C Johnson had ample opportunity in the parade and the preliminary to address the issue and issued a Fine of $50 for delaying the start.

MR KIWI NZ – Near the 1300 metres eased to markers – Used sprint lane.

ROCKNROLL YANKEE – Three wide early stages – Three wide middle stages – Worked forward to the position outside the leader – Raced outside the leader for the remainder of the race.

SABREUR NZ - Showed gate speed – Near the 1400 metres obtained a trail when crossed by BEE GEES BANDIT.

BEE GEES BANDIT – After showing gate speed was three wide early stages – Worked forward to the position outside the leader near the 1400 metres – Near the 1100 metres obtained a trail when crossed by ROCKNROLL YANKEE.

TOBY OGARA NZ – Settled leaders back.

CLARENDEN ENVOY – From the 300 metres held up prior to using the sprint lane.

DENNIS – From the 400 metres obliged to improve four wide on the final turn.

RACE 4 - EQUUS VETERINARY SERVICES PACE (NR up to 59) – 1800MS

WHISTLE ON BY – Settled leaders back – When queried as to why he had not contested the early lead Driver MA Smith explained that it had been his pre-race intention to lead if possible but after leaving the gate WHISTLE ON BY had not shown its customary acceleration despite being tapped up.  He noted that ANIMAL had crossed his drive comfortably.

ACES DAUGHTER – Broke score-up, warning issued - Near the 600 metres was hampered by SHAZZAM dictating its running – Near the 200 metres was checked in consequence.

GRACIE CULLEN – Over raced middle stages – From the 400 metres obliged to improve four wide on the final turn.

PREMONITION – Worked forward early to head the running line – Near the 1300 metres obtained a trail when crossed by WHITESTARCHRISTIAN – Approaching the 200 metres hung in, a warning was issued.

WHITESTARCHRISTIAN – Three wide early, worked forward to the position outside the leader – Raced outside the leader throughout – Approaching the 200 metres hung out and broke gait, a warning was issued – Then broke gait - Driver D Hill reported the horse lost a plate in running.

AMORE ROCK – Near the 1600 metres hung out, warning issued.

SHAZZAM – Pulled hard at various stages, afforded a last chance to race truly – Near the 600 metres eased three wide – From the 400 metres obliged to improve wide on the final turn.

THE KAPITI EXPRESS NZ - From the 300 metres was held up between runners – Early in the final straight had difficulty obtaining clear running.

Stewards reviewed an incident approaching the 200 metres in which WHITESTARCHRISTIAN (D Hill) broke gait and in consequence ACES DAUGHTER (D Smith) was checked breaking gait.  After reviewing the vision it was established that prior to the incident WHITESTARCHRISTIAN had raced tight on WHISTLE ON BY to its inside and that shortly after had shifted out contacting the sulky of PREMONITION which at the same time had hung in.  Stewards considered both horses had contributed to the incident and that both Drivers had responded appropriately in the circumstances, no action was taken.

Stewards reviewed an incident near the 600 metres in which ACES DAUGHTER (D Smith) was hampered when forced wider by SHAZZAM (G Pullicino) which had over raced for some distance.  After taking evidence from G Pullicino Stewards although noting her predicament issued a reprimand under Rule 163(1)(b)(i) forced ACES DAUGHTER wider.  Stewards afforded SHAZZAM a last chance to race truly noting the horse had raced once in the previous six weeks.  Trainer J Seal was advised that a repetition of its manners would lead to action being taken against SHAZZAM.

RACE 5 - 2022 VETERINARY SURGEONS CUP (NR 70 to 120) - 2230MS

MAKE HASTE - Showed gate speed, resisted a challenge to lead – Near 1300 metres surrendered the lead – Used sprint lane.

BRANTLEY NZ – From the 400 metres had difficulty obtaining clear running – Approaching the finish not fully tested.

JAKES SPORTWRITER – Showed gate speed, challenged for lead – Raced outside leader throughout – From 800 metres gave ground – Afforded a last chance to race competitively.

CULTURE KING – Near the 1800 metres eased to a trailing position in the running line – From 800 metres lost its position when trailing JAKE SPORTWRITER – From 400 metres obliged to improve four wide on the final turn.

DANCING FINN – Settled leaders back – From 700 metres came under pressure.

STRATOFORTRESS NZ – From 1600 metres worked forward three wide to the lead.

WRANGLER NZ – From 300 metres until entering the final straight unable to improve when racing between runners.

VAN MARA NZ – From the 1000 metres worked forward three wide to the position outside the leader – From the 700 metres raced outside the leader.

RACE 6 - NARACOORTE & PENOLA VETERINARY CENTRES PACE (NR 46 to 51) - 2230MS

MANONTHEMOON – Settled leaders back – Over raced in middle stages.

BARNEY FELLA – Showed gate speed, raced outside the leader throughout.

ABOVE AVERAGE – After the start eased to a trailing position in the running line.

HONEYBUN – After the start eased to a trailing position in the running line – Over raced in middle stages.

BLACKTOP ROCK – Driver S Jones was advised to in future ensure that when considering moving to the three wide position to avoid half-carting.

KAHINA – Approaching the 1500 metres checked when contacted the sulky of BLACKTOP ROCK when improving to the inside of that runner – Subjected to a post-race veterinary examination, laceration to the off-fore fetlock reported – Driver W Hill was advised to ensure that when improving he had adequate room available - Will be reincluded in the barrier draw for future mobile races.

RACE 7 - HORSEMED SA HILLS & MORPHETTVILLE EQUINE CLINICS PACE (NR up to 45) – 1800MS

ONLY IN ROME NZ – Over raced when leading.

BIEN HOA NZ – Subjected to a pre-race veterinary examination in accord with HRSA Aged Horse Policy, passed fit - Near the 1500 metres obtained a trail when crossed by SUTTER MAN.

MANOEUVER MAN – Three wide early, restrained to the rear.

SUTTER MAN – Three wide early, worked forward to the position outside the leader – Raced outside the leader throughout – Over raced middle stages.

RACE 8 - WD & SJ HARBISON 3YO PACE (No NR) – 1800MS

SORRENTO – After showing gate speed, settled on leaders back.

IDEAL MELODY – After showing gate speed, raced outside the leader throughout.

MISTER CHEESE – After showing gate speed, three wide briefly, worked forward to the lead.

DEADLINE – Driver W Hill stated that Deadline had been under pressure throughout and had struggled to make ground which had been in contrast to its two previous performances when winning.  Trainer J Neilson could not offer an explanation other than the horse was on a quick back-up having raced last Monday.  Trainer J Neilson advised that she intended to have blood tests done and undertook to report the results.

This Report and the Stewards Comments for the race meeting may be amended at the discretion of the Harness Racing South Australia (HRSA) Stewards as races are routinely reviewed.
