Trainers with multiple runners in any one race provided Stewards with their intentions prior to the event.

RACE 1 – HYGAIN PACE – 1800MS

LEICA GREY SHARK - Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, when clear was fully tested in the final straight. Stewards questioned Trainer R. Holberton regarding the improved performance of LEICA GREY SHARK. R. Holberton explained that filly has shown continual improvement in its preparation, it was also the first time LEICA GREY SHARK had drawn a favourable barrier. He stated the filly had recovered from a viral infection and a minor training mishap, which resulted in a longer than expected freshen up, which had benefitted her greatly, then once LEICA GREY SHARK had the ideal run in the race he was not surprised with the win. Stewards noted his explanation.

CLARENDEN ARCADIA – Hung in and contacted marker pegs near the 1500 metres, a warning was issued.

NURUNDERI - Utilised the sprint lane when it became available and fully tested in the final straight.

ARROWSDIDIT – At the request of connections, re-instated in the mobile barrier draw.

SONNY RENNT - Was out of position when the start was effected, will continue to be drawn wide for future mobile starts.

RACE 2 – LADBROKES BLACKBOOK TROTTERS MOBILE – 2230MS

Prior to the all-clear driver N. Brown (ALDERBARAN BREE) placed 5th, requested to view the race replays, to determine if an incident near the 500 metres, was avoidable, where HORSE OF COURSE (K. Weidenbach) placed 4th, had broken gait in advance of him and caused ALDERBARAN BREE to be severely checked and break gait. After reviewing the replays N. Brown was satisfied the incident could not be avoided and gave the all clear on the Judges numbers 1,5,3,2,4.

HORSE OF COURSE NZ – Broke gait free of interference near the 500 metres and was placed on its last chance to race truly.

COUNTESS CRUSOE – Tired over the concluding stages to be beaten 54.0 metres.

ALDERBARAN BREE – Had a tendency to over race when racing on the marker pegs. Severely checked and broke when HORSE OF COURSE NZ broke in advance of him.

MILITARY MERIT – Broke gait free of interference near the 300 metres and a warning was issued.

RACE 3 – NORTHSIDE TROPHIES TROTTERS HANDICAP – 2230SS

MAJESTIC SUMEMR – Broke gait free of interference as the field raced towards the first turn, a warning was issued.

JANES GEM – Was fractious at the barrier, then galloped away when the strands were released, took no competitive part in the event.

RACE 4 – HAHN SUPER DRY PACE – 1800MS

CLARENDEN SAKURA - Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, when clear was fully tested in the final straight.

DASHING COWBOY - Had difficulty finding a clear run over the final 400 metres of the event, and was never fully tested in the final straight.

RACE 5 – JOJUBI SADDLERY PACE – 1800MS

Prior to the all-clear driver C. Johnson (RICKSHAWSHADOW) Placed 2nd, requested to view the race replays, to determine if SHEMEANSBUSINESS (K. Weidenbach) placed 1st, had entered the sprint lane, whilst leading, in the final straight. After reviewing the replays C. Johnson was satisfied the leader had not entered the sprint lane and then gave the all clear on the Judges numbers 3,1,4,10,2.

RICKSHAWSHADOW - Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and the 200 metres, however, utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

SHEMEANSBUSINESS – Driver K. Weidenbach was fined $100 under Rule 162(1)(y) for slow sectionals.

CLARENDEN REGALIA – Inconvenience when HEZA STEEL NZ, who was racing to his outside, hung out near the 800 metres.

BEAUTY ABOVE - Inconvenience when HEZA STEEL NZ who was racing to his outside, hung out near the 800 metres.

HEZA STEEL NZ – Hung out near the 800 metres, a warning was issued.

RACE 6 – RAY WHITE COMMERCIAL ADELAIDE PACE – 1800MS

WEWILL HAIL CAESAR – Commenced to give ground from the 500 metres to eventually be beaten 50.0 metres.  Stewards considered this to be an unsatisfactory performance and after considering the geldings recent racing performances, stood WEWILL HAIL CAESAR down until the completion of one satisfactory requalifying trial.

COURTNEY KATARINA - Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, when clear was fully tested in the final straight.

GOLDEN JAYLET - As per HRSA policy for horses aged 12 years or older, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to run

ACES SHADOW – Stewards questioned drivers W. Hill along with T. Martlew (WEWILL HAIL CAESAR) regarding an incident that appeared to occur, as the field raced down the back straight on the first occasion, where it appeared T. Martlew applied continuous pressure on ACES SHADOW, who was racing to his inside, where eventually driver W. Hill had to restrain his runner to allow WEWILL HAIL CAESAR to take the position in advance of him rather than having his front legs contacted, resulting in ACES SHADOW losing his racing position. After considering evidence provided from both drivers and viewing the official race replays, T. Martlew pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AHRR 163(1)(a)(i) for crossing when not cleared to do so, with his licence to drive in races suspended for 21 days. In determining penalty Stewards were mindful of the nature of the incident, his recent offence under this rule along with his guilty plea.

RACE 7 – SEYMOUR GROUP PACE – 1800MS

AMYS BABY ANGEL – Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and the 200 metres, however, utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

TRUE BLUE ROSE – Driver G. Pullicino was fined $100 under Rule 156(2)(a) for crossing her reins into one hand and using the whip with a free hand.

TAYLAHS ACE – Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, when clear was fully tested in the final straight.

SKYLINE ANGEL - Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, when clear was fully tested in the final straight.

RACE 8 – LADBROKES BIG BETS PACE – 1800MS

BAZ – Tired over the concluding stages to eventually be beaten 31.0 metres.

SHIREEN - Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

THE CRIMSON PRINCE NZ – Raced erratically throughout the event and a warning was issued. Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and the 200 metres, however, when clear was fully tested in the final straight.

General

Stewards were made aware of an incident that was reported to occur in the stabling enclosure subsequent to race 7. Trainer L. Johnson and S. Loone was advised they would be required to attend an inquiry into the matter.

Stewards approved the late driver change for COUNTESS CRUSOE at today’s meeting, as G. Pullicino was unavailable for race 2 due to personal circumstances, she was able to take her later drives.

Stewards have directed trainer K. Talent to arrive on course with LOCHINVAR RULER at a time determined by the Stewards for the geldings next 4 starts, in accordance with the HRSA “Elevated TC02 Policy”
