Trainers with multiple runners in any one race provided Stewards with their intentions prior to the event.

RACE 1 – LADBROKES ODDS SURGE PACE – 1800MS

ROCKING WITH CHARM - As per HRSA policy for horses aged 12 years or older, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to run. 

THE NOTORIOUS R B G NZ – Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, utilised the sprint lane when it became available and fully tested in the final straight.

STARLIGHT SASS – Had a tendency to over race when used early to work forward to the head of the one out line. Stewards questioned driver G. Pullicino regarding the racing tactics she adopted during the early stages of the event. G. Pullicino advised her instructions from trainer R. Caruso was to go forward off the gate, as STARLIGHT SASS has raced successfully in Victoria when leading or sitting outside the leader. Stewards noted Mrs Pullicino’s comments and will monitor future performances.

PRE NUP - Utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight. Stewards questioned driver D. Smith in regards to his lack of vigour in the first 100 metres of the race. Mr Smith explained in his pre-race tactic declaration that PRE NUP can be difficult getting away from the mobile start and this is her normal racing pattern. Stewards noted D. Smith’s explanation however will monitor her early racing manners in future events.

RACE 2 – BIANCO REINFORCING PACE – 2230MS

PLACES YOU DON’T – Showed gate speed and led the event, however, driver L. Ryan elected to take a trail on the back of IM ALL BUSINESS near the 2000 metres.

CLASSIC ANGELINA – Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 300 metres and 150 metres. Stewards questioned driver T. Pullicino along with W. Hill (ROCKINROLL SPIRIT) regarding an incident which appeared to occur as T. Pullicino shifted up the track, when looking for a clear run in the final straight, which resulted in ROCKINROLL SPIRIT being checked and breaking gait momentarily. After considering evidence provided from both drivers and viewing the official race replays, T. Pullicino pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AHRR 163(1)(a)(iii) for contributing to interference. After taking all matters into consideration his licence to drive in races was suspended for 7 days. In determining penalty Stewards were mindful of the level of interference, his good driving record, and his guilty plea.

ROCKINROLL SPIRIT – Checked by CLASSIC ANGELINA which was racing on his inside, and momentarily broke gait in the final straight.

CROOKWELL JAKE – Had a tendency to over-race when in a trailing position.

RACE 3 – BARGAIN STEEL CENTRE PACE– 1800MS

CHILDERS ROAD – Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, utilised the sprint lane when it became available and fully tested in the final straight.

TRIGGER – Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, when clear was fully tested in the final straight. Stewards fined driver M. Smith $100.00 under AHRR 156(2)(a) for using the whip with more than a flicking action in the final straight.

MALACHITE ROCK - Had difficulty finding a clear run over the final 400 metres and wasn’t fully tested in the final straight.

RACE 4 – HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY BLACK VENOM TROTTERS HANDICAP – 2230MS

MY USED TO BE – Hung in and contacted marker pegs near the 600 metres, a warning was issued.

ALDERBARAN DEXTA – Galloped out when the barrier strands were released, a warning was issued.

GEORGIE GIRL – Began well to lead the event, however, driver K. Weidenbach elected to take a trail on the back of PHOEBE ONYX NZ, near the 2000 metres.

PHOEBE ONYX – Worked forward to the lead near the 2000 metres, however, driver G. Pullicino elected to take a trail on the back of EBONYS AVENGER, near the 1600 metres, then had a tendency to over-race when trailing on the marker pegs. Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, utilised the sprint lane when it became available and fully tested in the final straight

RACE 5 – REMEMBRANCE DAY PACE – 1800MS

DON ARTHUR – Stewards spoke to drivers D. Girardi, S. Hill (MY ULTIMATE FLYNN NZ) and A. Chapman (WRANGLER NZ) regarding an incident that appeared to occur, as the field raced towards the first turn, where DON ARTHUR was restricted for racing room and subsequently raced over marker pegs and broke gait. After considering evidence provided from all drivers, based on their own observations and viewing the official race replays, it was determined that as MY ULTIMATE FLYNN NZ attempted  to cross towards the lead, driver S. Hill had carried WRANGLER NZ down the track slightly which in turn forced DON ARTHUR towards the sprint lane, however shortly thereafter MY ULTIMATE FLYNN NZ crossed with ample clearance to lead the event. It was then evident that A. Chapman, for some distance, had the opportunity to relieve the pressure she had been applying to DON ARTHUR, by returning to her true position in the one out line, that did not occur and eventually, when the sprint lane ended, DON ARTHUR found itself over marker pegs and broke gait as a consequence. A. Chapman pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to 163(1)(b) for crossing towards the marker pegs when not clear to do so. After taking all matters into consideration her licence to drive in races was suspended for 10 days. In determining penalty Stewards were mindful of the level of interference, where it occurred, her good driving record, along with her guilty plea.

MY ULTIMATE FLYNN NZ - Had difficulty obtaining a clear run between the 400 metres and the 200 metres, however, utilised the sprint lane when it became available and fully tested in the final straight.

LAST TANGO IN HEAVEN NZ – Stewards questioned drivers R. Hryhorec along with A. Chapman (WRANGLER NZ) regarding an incident that appeared to occur near the 1500 metres, where A. Chapman had been racing near the marker pegs, then moved to the one wide line, forcing LAST TANGO IN HEAVEN NZ to a three wide position. After considering evidence tendered by both drivers Stewards elected to reprimanded A. Chapman under Rule 163(1)(b) for making another horse cover more ground then necessary.

TOLD YOU TWICE – Raced rough near the 500 metres, a warning was issued. Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, when clear was fully tested in the final straight.

SEBS CHOICE - Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, when clear was fully tested in the final straight.

HEZROCKINROYALTY – Hung in near the 600 metres and a warning was issued.

RACE 6 – LADBROKES QUICK MULTI PACE – 1800MS

SPLASH OF PAYNT - Had difficulty obtaining a clear run between the 400 metres and the 200 metres, however, utilised the sprint lane when it became available and fully tested in the final straight.

TONKAWAIKON - Utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

ALORA - Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and 200 metres, however, when clear was fully tested in the final straight.

RACE 7 – KEVIN & KAY SEYMOUR SOUTHERN CROSS PACE - 1800MS

TORQUE INTHEUSA – Raced roughly after the start and then greenly as the field raced through the first turn, a warning was issued.

CLARENDEN VINTAGE – Raced rough in the score up, a warning was issued. Showed gate speed to lead the event, however, driver K. Weidenbach elected to take a trail on the back of IMPOSTER BOY near the 1400 metres.

THE REGINATOR – Inconvenienced and raced roughly, near the 1500 metres, when TORQUE INTHEUSA was racing greenly in advance of him. Had difficulty obtaining a clear run between the 400 metres and the 200 metres, however, utilised the sprint lane when it became available and fully tested in the final straight.

General

Stewards spoke to the connections of IM ALL BUSINESS to make them aware of AHRR 119A(1) which relates to the “temporary transfer of a horse”. Stewards accepted Mr Weidenbach’s comments and advised him of the need to comply with the rule if the colt is to remain in South Australia

Stewards spoke to D. Girardi regarding his conduct in the race day stalls, subsequent to race 5, relating to an incident in Race 5 where his runner was checked and broke gait. After speaking with the people involved Stewards reminded D. Giardi of his obligations under Rule 231(2) to not misconduct himself in any way. It was made clear that Stewards will not tolerate any form of misconduct and a repeat occurrence may see significant penalties applied.
