Hill regarding the performance of NAROBI NZ as it was the short-priced favourite in the event finishing in 6th position, beaten 30 metres. Mr Hill expressed his disappointment in the run, explaining that the mare had been working well, and had trialled well. Connections had expected a lot more out of the mare today and said in future NAROBI NZ may need to be driven forward so as to be more competitive. Stewards took into consideration the body of work Mr Hill did in the early stages of the event when the mare was unable to obtain a forward trailing position, then having to restrain back to the rear of  the field and then not finding a clear run in the later stages. Stewards noted Mr Hill’s explanation regarding the performance but reminded him of his obligations to drive his runner out to the end of the event, as he had shown a lack of vigour over the final 200 metres of the event.
