RACE 3 – AB AIR SERVICES TROTTERS HANDICAP – 2230SS

IMA DESTROYER – Checked and raced roughly near the 650 metres when STINGOFAWASP contacted a sulky and raced roughly in advance of her.

STINGOFAWASP – Had a tendency to over-race when on the marker pegs which eventually resulted in the mare racing up and making contact with the off side sulky wheel of TENLILFONZIES, despite the efforts of the driver, a warning was issued and trainer L. O’Neill was advised to take corrective measures to avoid it occurring again.

SAMMY BARBARO – Checked and broke gait near the 650 metres when STINGOFAWASP contacted a sulky and raced roughly in advance of him.

RACE 4 – BARGAIN STEEL CENTRE PACE – 1800MS

CRUISING BELLEW – Driver S. Forby pointed out to Stewards, at the weigh in, how his whip had become entangled in the tail tie, shortly before entering the final straight and explained this was the reason for his exaggerated driving style in the final straight. Utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

ABOVE AVERAGE – Stewards questioned driver M. Smith regarding the tactics he adopted, in particular his decision to go forward at the start of the event, when Stewards had been informed by the trainer that their intention was to restrain at despatch, also, his decision to not avail himself of a trail when SUPERCHARGED moved up three wide. M. Smith advised Stewards that he had discussed the race with the trainer, after the tactics had been given, and they both agreed that restraining to the rear of the field would not be the best option with a horse like ABOVE AVERAGE, who does not have any turn of speed and is typically a one paced type of horse, so it would be more advantageous to be forward in the race. He went on to say that he did apply pressure to the leader, as in his opinion, TROUBLE LOOMING is a better sit sprint horse and may have taken the trail, however once he realised that the lead was not available, he was happy to sit outside leader and make sure it was an even tempo run race, as this suits ABOVE AVERAGE. M. Smith stated that had SUPERCHARGED arrived on his outside sooner, rather than near the 1000 metres, he would have taken the trail, however with just over a lap to run he felt maintaining his position at the head of the one out line was his best option at that stage of the race. Stewards noted his explanation, however reminded M. Smith that if tactics change then Stewards need to be advised and there is an expectation that horses are driven consistently and in a manner that will allow them to finish in the best possible placing.

SUTTER MAN – As per HRSA policy for horses aged 12 years or older, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to run. Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and the 200 metres of the event, but when clear was fully tested in the run to the finish.

DREAMY CASTAFIORE – Had difficulty finding a clear run over the final 400 metres of the event and was never really tested in the run to the finish.

RACE 5 – EMERGING STARS TOTTERS SERIES (HEAT 1) – 1800MS

THE CLIPPER – Galloped at despatch, will be drawn wide in future mobile start events.

IRENE ROSE – Broke gait shortly after the start was effected, will be drawn wide in future mobile start events.

KABAYO KING – Utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight. Driver A. Chapman was fined $50.00 for allowing her runner to race inside marker pegs near the 200 metres.

THE NINTH WAVE – Checked after the start was effected when IRENE ROSE broke gait in advance of him.

JANES GEM – Checked after the start was effected when IRENE ROSE broke gait in advance of him. Re-instated in the mobile barrier draw at the request of connections.

SIR ED – Driver D. Smith advised Stewards that the clip on the breast plate strap had broken during the running of the event. Re-instated in the mobile barrier draw at the request of connections.

RACE 6 – LADBROKES EASY FORM PACE – 1800MS

JAKES SPORTSWRITER – Gave ground over the final 500 metres of the event to eventually be beaten 74.0 metres, a post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards questioned driver N. Brown regarding the tactics he adopted, in particular his decision to move to the position outside the leader when the tempo was extremely quick, after he was unable to hold the lead, along with his decision to not avail himself of a trail when TREACHEROUS ROCK moved up three-wide. N. Brown stated that it was his instruction to try and lead if possible, however, if unable to hold the lead, then take up the position outside leader and make sure the race was run at an even tempo. He also stated that he thought the leader, PERFECT CUT, may take a trail due to its disappointing performance last start, when leading, however this was clearly not the case. N. Brown put down the ultimate finishing position of JAKESSPORTSWRITER, to a below par performance, as he believed the gelding was capable of being competitive when driven as he was today, however, the horse underperformed. Stewards noted his comments but suggested his drive lacked judgement and bordered on unacceptable. Due to the fact trainer and driver were both of the view that the horse performed below its best, Stewards stood JAKES SPORTSWRITER down to one satisfactory re-qualifying trial.

CROOKWELL JAKE – Gave ground over the final 500 metres of the event to eventually be beaten 73.0 metres, a post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Based on the geldings performance Stewards elected to stand CROOKWELL JAKE down until the completion of one satisfactory re-qualifying trial.

RACE 7 – MITAVITE PACE – 1800MS

LUV ME OR HATE ME – As per HRSA policy for horses aged 12 years or older, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to run.

CELESTIAL DAYBREAK – As per HRSA policy for horses aged 12 years or older, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to run. Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and the 200 metres of the event, but when clear was fully tested in the run to the finish.

RACE 8 – LADBROKES YARD COMMENTS PACE – 2230MS

ACES SHADOW – Showed gate speed and led the event, however driver B. Page elected to take a trail on the back of WHITESTARCHRISTIAN near the 1400 meters. Utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

AMMICCHI – Had difficulty finding a clear run over the final 400 metres of the event and was never really tested in the run to the finish.

RACE 9 – HYGAIN MICRSPEED PACE – 1800MS

ARCTIC WIND – Driver B. Page was fined $100.00 under Rule 168(1)(a) for allowing her horse to stride up and contact the sulky wheel of LETSGETROWDY as she attempted to move into the sprint lane, which caused her runner to break gait.

JACK BRONSKI – Out of position when the start was effected, will continue to be drawn wide in mobile start events.

TUFFTIGER – Re-instated in the mobile barrier draw at the request of connections.

RACE 10 – BRERETON JEWELLERS PACE – 1800MS

REACT TO BEAUTY – Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and the 200 metres, however, utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested over the concluding stages of the event.

GENERAL

Stewards imposed a fine of $500 upon trainer Todd Weidenbach under AHRR 231(2) for misconducting himself on Monday 1st July 2024, which related to a phone conversation with HRSA Racing Official Mr. David Thuen, where Mr Weidenbach used offensive and abusive language toward Mr Thuen. In assessing penalty Stewards considered his guilty plea, along with his previous record, in respect to these matters. Stewards directed that $300 of fine be suspended for 12 months on the condition he does not reoffend under this rule.

Globe Derby Park - 15/6/24– Stewards S. Ewen, D.Southgate and I. Devitt inquired into comments made towards Chairman Of Stewards, Mr T Styles, by licenced driver T. Pullicino, at a race meeting conducted on the 4/5/24 at Globe Derby Park. The incident occurred whilst a pre-race urine sample was being collected from HANGING FIRE, where Mr Pullicino made comments towards Mr Styles that were unwarranted and derogatory. After taking evidence from Mr Styles and Mr Pulicino Stewards charged Mr Pullicino under AHRR 231(2) which relates to misconduct, to which Mr Pullicino pleaded guilty. After taking all matters into consideration, which included his guilty plea, his apology, and his genuine remorse for the way he conducted himself, Stewards imposed a fine of $500.00 of which $300.00 was fully suspended for 12 months on the condition he does not reoffend under this rule.
