RACE 1  –  FEHLBERGS PRODUCE SPRINTLANE  PACE  –  1609m  Mobile

SHEEZA SOHO –Having its second registered race start, tended to race rough. A post-race Veterinary Examination could find no abnormalities. On questioning, trainer A Duggan informed Stewards that SHEEZA SOHO had developed this trait of recently, but feels that the filly will improve with time, adding he will consider options moving forward with her racing program.

MANINKY MOONSHINE– Appeared to shy away from the winning post with one lap remaining.

General: Driver M Ford was reminded of his obligations regarding his whip action

RACE 2  –  MORE CONFIDENCE CONSULTING PACE  –  2090m  Mobile

JUSTIFY – Broke gait shortly after the start and again passing the 1300. A post-race Veterinary Examination could find no obvious abnormalities with the gelding. On questioning, connections informed Stewards that they were disappointed with the way JUSTIFY performed, adding that the gelding can prove difficult to drive at times. Stewards deemed the overall performance well below the required standard and after referencing JUSTIFY’s poor record, stood the gelding down from racing until successfully completing one(1) qualifying trial, and in addition, JUSTIFY will be excluded from the barrier draw in races conducted under mobile start conditions.

PARK LANE NZ – Tended to over-race

RACE 3  –  LADBROKES EASY FORM PACE  –  2090m  Mobile

SPACEWRITER – Utilised the sprint lane in the run to the finish.

SVITOLINA LEIS – Slow to muster speed after the start.

DONNY IN PARIS– Checked and broke gait approaching the 400 when crossed by MACH ANGELO.

General: At the ‘Check-In”, P Williams, the diver of the fifth placed DONNY IN PARIS requested the opportunity to review the official race footage, as he had concerns over an incident approaching the 400. On review, driver Williams lodged an official protest against the third placed MACH ANGELO (M Ford), alleging interference near the 400, caused by MACH ANGELO, driven by M Ford, had deprived him of beating that horse to the finish line. Stewards, after taking evidence from both drivers, as well as driver Ford’s advocate Mr N Ford, on reviewing the official race footage and considering their own observations, dismissed the protest. Stewards in dismissing the protest acknowledged there was movement by MACH ANGELO down the track which resulted in DONNY IN PARIS being checked and break gait, however they could not be certain to the required standard that the incident had effected the placings, and as such Stewards declared “All-Clear” on the judge’s numbers 2-8-7-1-6.

At a subsequent inquiry, driver M Ford pled guilty to a charge of causing interference to DONNY IN PARIS through his movement when crossing down with MACH ANGELO into a one-out position when insufficiently clear of DONNY IN PARIS. This movement resulted in DONNY IN PARIS being checked and ultimately breaking gait. Stewards after taking into consideration driver Ford’s guilty plea, his driving record and precedents with similar incidents, suspended his licence to drive for three(3) Tasmanian race dates [AHR Rule 163(1)(a)(iii)].

SOHO UNDERTAKER was subsequently stood down from racing until satisfactorily completing one(1) qualifying trial.

SERIOUSLY SAM– Severely checked near the 300, as a result of SOHO UNDERTAKER breaking gait.

KEAYANG WOLFPACK– Under pressure from the 1000, tiring from the 800. Checked near the 300, as a result of SOHO UNDERTAKER breaking gait. Stewards deemed the performance below the required standard, noting that KEAYANG WOLFPACK was a well beaten horse before the check, and stood the gelding down from racing until satisfactorily completing one(1) qualifying trial.

Supplementary  –  Race 1:  RESURGENT HUNGER

Stewards questioned trainer Roger Whitmore after the late nomination and subsequent scratching of his 2YO filly RESURGENT HUNGER. Of concern to Stewards was the legitimacy of the nomination, which potentially could have been to simply to ensure the race went ahead. On questioning trainer Whitmore stated that his initial plans for RESURGENT HUNGER was to wait for the maiden 2YO races in the upcoming weeks, but with the nomination numbers so low, he felt it might be a good opportunity to earn some prizemoney, hence the nomination. However, RESURGENT HUNGER, for a reason unknown to him, had swelling to its near-hind leg, and under Veterinary advice, he scratched the filly.

This evidence was supported by a Veterinary Report signed by Dr Elizabeth Cooper and a photograph of the leg, which showed the swelling. Stewards, with the evidence and supporting documentation, took no action other than to note the circumstances.

Supplementary  –  Race 5:  SPORTZSILK

On Monday morning November 11, 2024, Stewards contacted trainer A Duggan over the performance SPORTZSILK, which in Race 5 seemed under pressure from the 800. On questioning, trainer Adrian Duggan informed Stewards that rounding the turn passing the 900 and until entering the back straight SPORTZSILK had hung in and become unbalanced, however on straightening into the back straight, although losing a position up to that point, began to race in the desired manner. When questioned on how SPORTZSILK pulled up after the incident near the 300, where driver J Duggan was unseated, trainer Duggan informed Stewards that SPORTZSILK had shown no ill effect from the incident, reporting she had eaten up and looked bright that day.

Supplementary  –   Race 6: YAPPAS COURAGE

On Monday morning November 11, 2024, Stewards contacted trainer W Yole over the tactics adopted on YAPPAS COURAGE on the night, as compared to those tactics nominated prior to the race. Trainer Yole conceded the planned tactics going into the race was to take an early sit, however when assessing his options early, driver M Yole elected to race forward in search of a favourable forward position, believing there was no opportunity to move across and find a position, based on the early tactics of the other drivers drawn to his inside, and the only other option was to restrain which would have resulted in him having to restrain to the rear. Based on the way YAPPAS COURAGE felt at the time, and the tactics adopted by other drivers, he felt that working forward in search for a prominent position was the better option at the time. However, after being unable to find that forward position, he then eased YAPPAS COURAGE to the rear. The evidence was noted as tendered.
