STEWARDS REPORT FOR ECHUCA

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

RACE 1 – VHRC / SHEPPARTON MOTOR PANELS PACE (2160 MS)

LA FRANK – galloped in score-up at first attempt and caused a false start; exclusion from future mobile barrier draws. Slowly out at second attempt.

STAR WRITER - pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with the HRV Animal Welfare policy having attained 12 or more years of age and 200 or more lifetime starts. No obvious abnormalities detected either examination. Raced roughly heading into the first turn.

CLEM MCARDLE – held up and no clear run rounding home turn final occasion; utilized sprint lane thereafter.

PAYUP ORLEAVE – pulled hard through early and middle stages.

EYE ON YOU – tired to be beaten 82m into ninth placing; last chance to race competitively.

HES HARRYWHO – tired to be beaten 96.1m into tenth and last placing. Driver Matt Newberry could offer no tangible explanation for the performance and conveyed disappointment in the overall effort. Mr Newberry explained that given the gelding had raced at least once every month since January of 2024 that he would now be sent for a short break. Post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities and as such the gelding will now be placed on his last chance to race competitively. Stewards intend to follow-up with connections in the coming days as to the gelding’s recovery.

On 29 June 2024, Stable Representative Matt Newberry advised that HES HARRYWHO may be afflcited with a viral infection following the engagement at Echuca on 26 June 2024 and would be treated accordingly prior to a decision on the rest of the gelding's preparation. 

ALWAYS BE BLAKEY – driver James Herbertson cautioned for allowing his body to protrude outside the rear of the sulky from approx. the 300m.

RACE 2 – VHRC / ALABAR BLOODSTOCK PACE (2160 MS)

NEDS BEACH NZ – trainer Reece Moore cautioned for leading the gelding around without the proper restraining device.

KIA ORA BEAUTY – galloped early part of score-up, fulfilled position on gate when start was effected; last chance in mobile barrier draw. Driver Matt Newberry was queried regarding the overall performance of the mare. Mr Newberry explained that he was of the view that KIA ORA BEAUTY may not apply herself when racing back in the field and may be better suited when racing forward. Post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Stewards intend to follow-up with connections in the coming days as to the mare’s recovery.

RACE 3 – VVHRC / WOODLANDS STUD PACEPACE (2160 MS)

NAI HARN BAY – pulled hard in running.

TWILIGHT BEACH – held up and no clear run rounding home turn final occasion; utilized sprint lane thereafter.

KYLOAN QUEEN – fractious prior to score up when exiting the pre-race circle, requiring the assistance of the Clerk of the Course; warning issued.

JOEYS HANGOVER – driver Tayla French fined the sum of $100 under AHRR156(3) for applying the whip to her drive on more occasions than are permitted over the final 200m; clear record noted.

RACE 4 – ECHUCA MOAMA & DISTRICT PROBUS GROUP PACE (2160 MS)

DANCINGONSTARLIGHT – galloped under pressure; last chance to race tractably.

I LIKE WHAT I SEE – held up and no clear run rounding home turn final occasion; utilized sprint lane thereafter.

EYE SEE PHILTRA – pulled hard score-up, and then pulled hard in running.

RACE 5 – PETER WALSH MP CHALLENGE FINAL (2160 MS)

The start time of this event was amended to 7.31pm.

MYNAMEISRUBY – driver Liam Older cautioned for allowing his left foot to become removed from the sulky footrest at approx. 200m. In adopting this approach, Stewards noted that Mr Older was having some difficulty activating removable gear, with a cord becoming wrapped around his left foot.

ADMIRALOFTHEFLEET – hung in score-up. Hung out marginally at various stages in running when leading.

SPORTY PHILTRA – pulled hard in running.

HOPES CHOICE – held up and no clear run rounding home turn final occasion; utilized sprint lane thereafter.

EDWARDE GRANGE – pulled hard score-up.

RACE 6 – VHRC / CGI PACE (2160 MS)

WELL SAID NUGGET – pulled hard in running. Hung out at various stages. No clear run rounding home turn final occasion.

FULLOFMISCHIEF – began badly; exclusion from future mobile barrier draws. Hung in through the early stages.

TOORAM CEE CEE – inconvenienced after the start by FULLOFMISCHIEF having to navigate around that runner who had begun badly.

RACE 7 – VHRC / ALDEBARAN PARK TROTTERS HANDICAP (2130 SS)

TETRA (FT) – held up and no clear run rounding home turn final occasion; utilized sprint lane thereafter.

WILL PATRICK (FT) – fractious and reared before start; last chance in standing start draws.

PLAYA DEL CARMEN (FT) – galloped out; exclusion from future standing start draws.

IVAR (FT) – trainer Paul Weidenbach fined the sum of $50 under AHRR238 for not advising dual-runner tactics by the prescribed time.

LUNA (FT) – galloped out; continued exclusion from future standing start draws. Raced roughly throughout.

KALARNEY PRINCE (10m) – stood flat-footed; continued exclusion from future standing start draws.

MAORI DUCHESS (20m) - post-race veterinary examination in accordance with the HRV Animal Welfare policy owing to an engagement in the 24 hours following this event at Melton. No obvious abnormalities detected.

RACE 8 – VHRC / BENSTUD STANDARDBREDS PACE (2160 MS)

STELLAR QUEEN – inconvenienced from approx. the 400m when KING KULAFU commenced to give ground.

PINNACLE HOPE - pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with the HRV Animal Welfare policy having attained 200 or more lifetime starts. No obvious abnormalities detected either examination. Inconvenienced when KING KULAFU commenced to give ground.

SELF EXCLUSION – pulled hard in running.

MURIEL – galloped away; exclusion from future mobile barrier draws.

KING KULAFU – driver James Herbertson queried regarding the overall performance and tractability of his drive through the early to middle stages. Mr Herbertson explained that KING KULAFU pulled hard through the home straight with two laps to run prior to activating removable gear and working forward to the lead at approx. 1400m. Mr Herbertson explained that the overall intractability of the gelding throughout was in his view the main reason for what appeared to be a disappointing performance. Post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

RACE 9 – VHRC / RICH RIVER GOLF CLUB PACE (2160 MS)

The start time for this event was delayed by approx. eight minutes when MAJOR SUSPECT required a new sulky wheel to be fitted at the start; owing to the club sulky not being suitable for use in this instance. 

BINN WATCHING – held up and no clear run rounding home turn final occasion; utilized sprint lane thereafter.

STRAWBERRY BLING – pulled hard through the early to middle stages, prior to surrendering the lead.

CONSPIRATOR NZ - inquiry adjourned; Stewards intend to examine the wagering data for this event. The gelding was detained on-course for approx. two and three-quarter hours for the purposes of post-race blood sampling

SORRENTO .– late scratching at 10.38am on veterinary advice.

PRINCESS ARNA – pulled hard early. Galloped at approx. 1400m; last chance to race tractably. Trailed the field thereafter.

RACE 10 – THANKS TO OUR VOLUNTEERS PACE (2160 MS)

MANHATTAN LASS - late scratching at 5.55pm owing to transportation issues enroute to the course.

ROBERTS DELIGHT – driver Corey Bell cautioned for half-carting for a short distance at approx. 600m. Sulky contacted by OLLY ODD POTTS shortly thereafter.

TOPZAVSKI – inquiry adjourned; Stewards intend to examine the wagering data for this event. The gelding was detained on-course for approx. two-and-a-half hours for the purposes of post-race blood sampling.

FOUR STARZZZ RUBY – pulled hard score-up and then pulled hard in running. Held up and no clear run rounding home turn final occasion prior to utilizing the sprint lane.

OLLY ODD POTS – inconvenienced by ROBERTS DELIGHT (Corey Bell) at approx. 600m as that runner raced in a half-cart position for a short distance. Contacted the sulky of ROBERTS DELIGHT shortly thereafter after that runner shifted wider marginally whilst maintaining a three-wide position throughout that section of the event; raced roughly and galloped as a result. No action taken given the circumstances.

CRAFTY OLD FOX - pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with the HRV Animal Welfare policy having attained 200 or more lifetime starts. No obvious abnormalities detected either examination. Tired to be beaten 71.2m into seventh placing; warning issued.

FRIENDS - pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with the HRV Animal Welfare policy having attained 12 or more years of age. No obvious abnormalities detected either examination.

RACE 11 – SUPER CLEAN LINEN PACE (2160 MS)

ALL GOOD – galloped twice in running. Post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame (2/5) in the near-front limb. Stood down pending veterinary clearance and the completion of one (1) satisfactory trial.

WELL WELL – driver Paul Weidenbach fined the sum of $200 under AHRR156(2)(a) for applying the whip to his drive with more than a wrist-only flicking motion on several occasions over the final 200m of the event in an action which engaged the shoulder and elbow and displays an overt amount of force. Clear recent record noted.

SHES GOING PLACES – checked by ALL GOOD when that runner galloped heading into the first turn.

BLUE OCEAN – pulled hard in running.

NOBLE JULIA – checked twice in running by ALL GOOD (2000m and 1400m). Held up and no clear run rounding home turn final occasion; utilized sprint lane thereafter.

SILY SMOOTH EXCUSE NZ – checked by ALL GOOD when that runner galloped heading into the first turn.

KITCH MACRAY – late scratching at 5.55pm owing to transportation issues enroute to the course.

LILNOVA – inconvenienced by ALL GOOD heading into the first turn when that runner galloped.
