Turnbull stated that he elected to drive forward at the start in an endeavour to find the lead and then surrender that position however when he was unable to find the lead he was obliged to race outside the lead until obtaining cover near the 1400 metres. J. Turnbull added that leaving the 600 metres the gelding was under pressure and would derive benefit from the run. In view of the performance the gelding will be stood down until it can complete one satisfactory trial.

CASHBOX – Stewards questioned Driver M. Turnbull in regards to the performance of the gelding which weakened from the 400 metres to be beaten 25 metres. M. Turnbull stated that he was obliged to work harder then he would have liked in the early stages to obtain the lead and although travelling well throughout the event when challenged near the 400 metres the gelding was under pressure and failed to run on.
PIPPO NIEN – Entering the back straight on the first occasion was inconvenienced and raced roughly when SPECIAL MEANING shifted in.
CAMSTAR ROAD – Pre-race blood sample. Stewards questioned Driver S. Dowton in regards to the improved performance in tonight’s event. S. Dowton stated that the gelding was suited to being back in grade for tonight’s event and was also benefited from obtaining a soft run from a good barrier draw. Stewards noted the comments. BRIDGE COIN – Pre-race blood sample. Lost 1st placing on protest. Shifted out under pressure in the run to the finish. Driver D. Post-race swab sample.
TURBO TOMMY – Prior to the declaration of all-clear, Stewards considered an objection lodged by Driver J. Davis which was placed 2nd by the judge against the 1st placegetter BRIDGE COIN for alleged interference in the home straight on the final occasion. After taking evidence from both drivers and reviewing the films, it was established that near the 150 metres TURBO TOMMY established a run to the outside of BRIDGE COIN which then commenced to shift out in the run to the finish and as a result TURBO TOMMY was taken wider on the track. As Stewards were comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred TURBO TOMMY would have beaten BRIDGE COIN and therefore the protest was upheld and the all clear given on the numbers of 4-1-3-10.
