Trainers with multiple runners in any one race were questioned in relation to their intended tactics.
RACE 1 – REMEMBERING TEX FLYNN 3YO WESTBRED PACE (2050MS)
SHADRACH (M. Miller) – Gave ground in the vicinity of the 400 metres subsequently beaten 41 metres.
GALECOCERDO CUVIER (C. Wallrodt) – When leaving a trailing position and attempting to gain the lead of the one wide line, the gelding was inclined to hang inwards resulting in the driver having to restrain to the rear of the field.
RACE 2 – BRIAN STUDSOR EX COMMITTEEMAN PACE (2050MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 3 – COLLIE RETIRED MINERS ASSOCIATION 4YO+ PACE (2050MS)
BAILEY MAJOR NZ (D. Suvaljko) - Held up for clear running in the home straight.
DWAYNE (J. Suvaljko) - Held up for clear running in the home straight.
LIAURIE (M. Miller) – Driver M. Miller was shown a section of the official patrol footage when racing into the front straight on the final occasion and reminded of his obligations under R163(1)(c)(i) to not allow his horse or sulky to shift inside marker pegs.
RACE 4 – BIG JOHNNY PACE (2670SS)
LORINDA KATE (H. Charles) – Broke gait shortly after the start was effected. A warning was placed on the mare’s starting manners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
TRIPLE BRIE (K. Harper) – Galloped out as the start was effected. A warning was placed on the mare’s starting manners. Upon review of the offical patrol footage Driver K. Harper was strongly reminded of his obligation under R170(1)(a) to drive with both feet in the rest of the sulky after dropping his left foot racing into the front straight on the final occasion.
ALFA PRINCE (S. Young) – Galloped out as the start was effected. Will continue to be placed outside the standing start draw.
Driver S. Young (ALFA PRINCE) pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of rule 149(2) for an unacceptable drive the particulars of charge being that he had placed his drive under pressure from the vicinity of the 1300 metres, continuing to drive the gelding along for the duration of the front straight and therefore had mistaken the laps. Mr Young had his licence to drive suspended for a period of 4 weeks commencing at midnight 28 November 2022. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account his guilty plea, forthright evidence, prior penalties under the same rule, and his good record under the rule.
Driver C. Peterson (HES ROYAL BLUE) pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of rule 149(2) for an unacceptable drive the particulars of charge being that he had placed his drive under pressure from the vicinity of the 1300 metres, continuing to drive the gelding along for the duration of the front straight and therefore had mistaken the laps. Mr Peterson had his licence to drive suspended for a period of 4 weeks commencing at midnight 27 November 2022. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account his guilty plea, forthright evidence, prior penalties under the same rule, and his good record under the rule.
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the driving tactics of Mr B. Hayes (JUST A SAINT) with a date and time to be determined.
RACE 5 – GEORGE ASHCROFT MEMORIAL PACE (2050MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 6 – BENDIGO BANK COLLIE CUP COND. PACE (2670SS)
ARDENS HORIZON NZ (C. Suvaljko) – Raced roughly after the start was effected.
THE BATMOBILE (S. Butterworth) – Galloped out as the start was effected. Will be placed outside the draw in future standing start events. Trailed the field thereafter and took no competitive part.
RACE 7 – BLUE & GREG PACE 4YO+ PACE (2050MS)
OUR GLOWING STAR (T. Wheeler) – Broke gait after the start was effected. Will be placed outside the draw in future mobile barrier events. Driver T. Wheeler was fined $100 under the provisions of R168(1)(a) for placing his drive in restricted room when racing into the front straight on the final occasion eventuating in the mare having to be restrained and subsequently broke gait.
SHELLNA (M. Miller) – Severely checked and broke gait after the start was effected.
