Trainers with multiple runners in any one race were questioned in relation to their intended tactics.
RACE 1 – TEX FLYNN (DIV.1) PACE (2050MS)
IDEAL WHITBY (A Suvaljko) – Unable to secure clear running from near 300m.
OUR MUSICAL MOTION (A Shepherd) – Broke gait during the score up and was out of position when the start was effected. Trainer L Wallrodt was advised the mare will be placed outside the draw in future mobile barrier events.
RACE 2 – BIG JOHNNY AND TOFF MEMORIAL (DIV.2) PACE (2050MS)
LENI ROSE (B Edman) – Stewards questioned Concession Driver B Edman, accompanied by Senior Driver T Wheeler, into the tactics employed in the event, in particular if there was an opportunity to hold a position behind the leader of the one wide line shortly after the start. Ms Edman put forward the mare had raced greenly after the start and hung inwards onto COHLIN (T Wheeler). Ms Edman further stated that endeavouring to afford inside runners’ room she lost the ability to drive forward in an attempt to hold the position in question. After considering the evidence tendered, reviewing the patrol vision and Ms Edman’s level of experience, Stewards accepted the explanation however advised Ms Edman to report to Stewards any difficulties throughout running in future races under the provisions of rule 162(1)(p).
RACE 3 – PATRIOTS HOCKEY CLUB PACE (2050MS)
CAMEOS DELIGHT (C Wallrodt) – Galloped out when the start was effected. Failed to take any competitive part in the event thereafter. Trainer H Reeves was advised the gelding will be placed outside the draw in future mobile barrier events.
BETTERTHAN SECRET (S McDonald) – Checked shortly after the start was effected.
RACE 4 – TELSTRA PACE (2050MS)
MONTEGO (C Peterson) – Gave ground over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer M Scott advised Stewards he will have blood specimens collected for veterinary analysis from both runners in this event and report the results to Stewards. Mr Scott was advised the filly will be stood down from racing for a period of 6 days and until such time as the completion of 1 satisfactory re-qualifying trial.
FLAMING CULLEN (L Steer) – Hung inwards and contacted a marker post racing into the front straight to receive the bell.
ALTA HURRAH NZ (R Donnell) – Galloped out as the start was effected. Trainer R Donnell was advised the gelding will be placed outside the draw in future mobile barrier events.
RACE 5 – TABTOUCH COALFIELDS BONUS SERIES PACE (2050MS)
LOVE DEVINE (A Markham) – Unable to secure clear running in the straight.
VEEFORVICTORY (C Peterson) – Contacted a marker post and raced roughly when racing towards the back straight on the second occasion.
FUNKY MUSIC (C Playle) – The off-side shortener pin became adrift during the early stages of the score up with the filly breaking gait and unable to come into position at the start. As a consequence, no further action was taken against the filly.
TERASITA (M Miller) – Galloped out when the start was effected. Trainer T Reay was advised the filly will be placed outside the draw in future mobile barrier events.
THE THIRSTY VET (A Suvaljko) – Unable to secure clear running in the straight until over the concluding stages.
RACE 6 – JOHN MARTIN MEMORIAL PACE (2670SS)
BONSTAR (A Markham) – Inconvenienced racing out of the back straight on the first occasion.
BEEN SCOOTIN (K Harper) – Inconvenienced behind the galloping ISAIDBOO (J Suvaljko) and shifted outwards when racing out of the back straight on the first occasion. Driver K Harper reported in his opinion the gelding will derive fitness benefit going forward.
ISAIDBOO (J Suvaljko) – The offside hopple connecting strap broke racing in the back straight on the first occasion with the gelding breaking gait as a consequence. Trailed the field thereafter. The gear was inspected by the starter immediately following the event and found to be in good condition. Driver J Suvaljko was reminded of his obligations under R161(1)(rr) to immediately report to Stewards if any gear is broken.
RACE 7 – GRIFFOS SOFT SERVE ICECREAM 3YO WESTBRED PACE (2050MS)
HURRICANEHOPE (S Steele) – Hung inwards and raced inside several marker posts before being restrained to the rear of the field. Trainer S Steele was advised the filly will be stood down from racing for a period of 6 days and until such time as the successful completion of 1 satisfactory re-qualifying trial.
RACE 8 – ST JOHN AMBULANCE 4YO+ WESTBRED MAIDEN PACE (2050MS)
General: Owing to the deteriorating track conditions as a consequence of ongoing rainfall throughout the meeting in which the mobile starting barrier had difficulty negotiating the surface in the event prior and several drivers raising concerns over visibility, the last race was abandoned.
