STEWARDS REPORT FOR CRANBOURNE

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

RACE 1 DOWNBYTHESEASIDE STANDING @ WOODLANDS STUD 3YO PACE (2080 MS)

Thunder Beach which was having its first race start was slow to begin from barrier 3, trailed the field for the greater majority and tired to be beaten approximately 116m. Considering the margins in the placings (1.5m x 17m), Thunder Beach was placed on its last chance to race competitively.

Malibu Riki and Thug Rose NZ were beaten slightly in excess of 60m, however in view of the margins in the placings, no action was taken for the respective performances.

Really Whisky hung in and paced roughly racing down the back straight on the final occasion and then tired to be beaten approximately 80m. Given the relevant margins in the placings’ a warning was issued for the performance of Really Whisky.

Adrian Pace, driver of Justalittlesip NZ was cautioned for failing to take immediate action to remove the gelding from the sprint lane after leading into the home straight. Stewards acknowledged that this had no bearing on the outcome of the race and no other horse was impeded.

RACE 2 HYGAIN CRANBOURNE 10000 PACE FINAL (2080 MS)

Bronski Royal was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3:12pm.

The revised start time for this race was 5:32pm.

Two Sock Creek NZ galloped during the score up, was out of position at the start at trailed the field thereafter. Two Sock Creek NZ then galloped rounding the final turn. Two Sock Creek NZ was placed outside the draw in future mobile start races and placed on its last chance to race truly.

No Win No Worries pulled hard during the middle stages after having established the position outside of the leader.

Cody Crossland, driver of Heaven Attracts was fined $100 under rule 156(3) for using his whip in an unapproved manner in that he applied the whip on more occasions than permitted inside the 200m.

RACE 3 – DECRON PACE (1609 MS)

Rita Burnett, trainer of Gigis Grinner and Feisty Phoebe was cautioned for failing to notify the intended driving tactics.

Our Sammy Jae was slow to begin from barrier one.

RACE 4 – GIRLS NIGHT OUT - SATURDAY 9 JULY PACE (1609 MS)

Drivers Scott Ewen (Beau Hart) and Ken Tippet (Ronzel Sonny) were cautioned for failing to have their respective drives in position at the candy pole prior to the start.

Skedaddle Shannon began badly and was retired from the event shortly after the start. Skedaddle Shannon will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw and stood down from racing until having trialled satisfactorily on one occasion.

Elenna was held up prior to utilising the sprint lane to finish in 3rd place.                                                                        

RACE 5 - BLUE HILLS RISE PACE (2080 MS)

Stewards refrained from pursuing action against Kate Gath, driver of Mr Bohannon NZ for leading through the first half of the last mile in 64.2 seconds. Stewards took into account the quicker than average lead time recorded.

RACE 6 – MARK GURRY & ASSOCIATES PACE (2080 MS)

Trembita was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3:12pm.

Im Eugene was out of position at the start and will continue to be placed right outside the mobile barrier draw.

Racing into the back straight on the first occasion, Kiwi Kalahari momentarily shifted inwards from a position in the running line and when corrected by its driver, Sheiswatching which was hanging out was inconvenienced, which in turn caused Cobargo Grin to be inconvenienced when progressing forward three wide.

Cobargo Grin improved forward three wide during the early and middle stages before commencing to give ground racing down the back straight on the final occasion causing, Kiwi Kalahari, Gee Hee Rocks and Jacks Command to be inconvenienced when following. Cobargo Grin then tired to finish at the rear of the field beaten approximately 76m. A warning was issued against the performance of Cobargo Grin. A subsequent veterinary examination of Cobargo Grin revealed no apparent abnormalities. Connections considered that the work required of Cobargo Grin to obtain a forward position was the main contributing factor for the performance.

Matthew Ablett, driver of Feel The Buzz was cautioned for the manner in which he shifted ground outwards rounding the final turn and at the entrance to the home straight which caused Im Eugene (K Tippet) to be inconvenienced.

Jacks Command was beaten slightly in excess of 50m, however in view of meeting with some inconvenienced over the latter stages, no action was taken for the performance.

RACE 7 – DECRON PACE (2080 MS)

Damon Watson, driver of Hold Back The River NZ pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 165(1)(b). The particulars of the charge being that approaching the winning post shortly after the start, Mr Watson permitted his drive to shift in from a three wide position when not the required clearance of Biggerbetterbest causing that gelding to be checked, pace roughly and lose its rightful racing position. Mr Watson’s licence to drive in races was suspended for 2 weeks to commence midnight 29 May 2022. In assessing penalty in accordance with the HRV Minimum Penalty Guidelines, Stewards took into account Mr Watson’s guilty plea, good record (1st offence from approximately 360 drives) and the degree of interference.

Tommy Bligh pulled hard during the middle stages before obtaining cover in the one out and one back position.

Diegos Diamond (2nd place) pulled hard during the middle stages and was then held up for a clear run rounding the final turn before utilising the sprint lane.

Juslikeroyalty (3rd place) was held up for a clear run rounding the final turn before utilising the sprint lane.

Touch Of Terror progressed forward three wide during the middle stages to establish the position outside of the leader before giving some late ground to finish in 9th position beaten approximately 30m. Jack Laugher, driver of Touch Of Terror considered that the gelding didn’t appear to travel overly well after enduring slightly more work than anticipated to obtain a forward position. A subsequent veterinary examination of Touch Of Terror revealed no apparent abnormalities.

RACE 8 – CRANBOURNE FENCING PACE (2080 MS)

The revised start time for this race was 8:44pm.

Ross Payne, driver of My Superannuation was cautioned for allowing his left foot to come away from the sulky footrest rounding the final turn whilst activating gear by hand.

It was noted that driver James Herbertson’s (Playa Blanca) right foot momentarily slipped from the sulky footrest in the home straight.

RACE 9 – NUTRIEN EQUINE TROT (2080 MS)

Blanco Canyon was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 11:09am.

Aldebaran Lovisa galloped during the score up, was out of position at the start and the mare will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

Meadow Valley Star trotted roughly during the score up, was out of position at the start and the gelding will be placed outside the draw in future mobile start races.

Jeremy Quinlan, driver of The Girls Gotflair was cautioned for tightening the ground of Ero Capre Diem racing into the first turn. In not taking further action Stewards took into account that Ero Capre Diem had initially hung in and when corrected by its driver that gelding then shifted out thereby contributing to the incident.

Meadow Valley Star trotted roughly at various stages, however most noticeably near the 600m when over-racing behind Ero Capre Diem, resulting in Meadow Valley Star then shifting wider on the track.

Aldebaran Lovisa pulled hard during the middle stages before tiring to be beaten approximately 102m. After taking into account the ground lost by Aldebaran Lovisa during the early stages, a warning was placed against the performance of the mare.

RACE 10 – ALABAR VICBRED PLATINUM MAIDEN PACE (1609 MS)

See You There was out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

Social Writer began badly, trailed the field throughout and will be placed outside the draw in future mobile start races.

See You There hung out down the back straight on the final occasion.

La Mesh paced roughly approaching the home straight on the final occasion.

RACE 11 – ALDEBARAN PARK TROTTERS HANDICAP (2110 SS)

The revised start time for this race was 10:16pm.

Imperial Whiz NZ galloped briefly shortly after the start and will continue to be placed outside the standing start draw.

Tennerson was held up for a clear run rounding the final turn prior to finishing in 4th place.
