STEWARDS REPORT FOR CRANBOURNE

SUNDAY 10 NOVEMBER 2024

Daniel Borg (Chairman)
Scott Gillespie
Chris Sullivan
Jason Fino (Starter)
Dr Kate Thompson (Veterinarian)

Track: Good
Weather: Fine

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

RACE 1 – DECRON MAIDEN TROT (2080 MS)

BRIGITTE ROYALE – began badly; continued exclusion from future mobile barrier draws. Continued to gallop rounding the first turn and into the back straight. Galloped again at approx. 1300m whilst trailing the field; last chance to race tractably.

OPRAH DOUBLE YOU – began badly; continued exclusion from future mobile barrier draws. Trailed the field thereafter.

MAJESTIC PARTY BOY – out of position when start effected; continued exclusion from future mobile barrier draws. Tired to be beaten 51.9m into seventh placing; warning issued for beaten margin owing to relatively slow overall mile rate of the event. Driver Darren Pace could offer no tangible explanation for the overall performance of the gelding and conveyed his disappointment in the effort. Post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

NEY DEAN – gave ground over the final 800m. Driver Josh Duggan explained that he was off the view that the entire may not be able to sustain early work and would be favoured when driven conservatively in future starts. Post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

RACE 2 – LATHER UP STANDING @ WOODLANDS STUD PACE (2ND HEAT) (1609 MS)

EAGLES AND INDIANS – driver Monique Burnett was cautioned for allowing the gelding to contact and dislodge a marker peg rounding the final turn.

ALPHA CRUCIS – hung in and contacted the last marker peg at approx. 200m and then hung in under pressure concluding stages.

CARUSO STAR – driver Chris Alford was queried regarding the early driving tactics adopted and the overall performance of the gelding. Mr Alford explained that instructions from connections were to drive CARUSO STAR conservatively given the gelding was first-up from an eight week break. Mr Alford added that after being held up for clear running rounding the home turn on the final occasion, CARUSO STAR worked to the line satisfactorily.

RACE 3 – HYGAIN PACE (3RD HEAT) (1609 MS)

JEDI MIND - pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with the HRV Animal Welfare policy having attained 12 or more years of age and 200 or more lifetime starts. No obvious abnormalities detected either examination.

GROOM – fractious in the score-up, swinging sideways; last chance in mobile barrier draw.

BLACK TUXEDO – pulled hard in running when positioned outside the leader. Hung in under pressure from 200m to finish; warning issued.

KARDESLER NZ – galloped score-up, out of position when start effected; continued exclusion from future mobile barrier draws.

RACE 4 – ALDEBARAN PARK TROT (1609 MS)

THE SKY IS THE LIMIT – galloped away; exclusion from future mobile barrier draws. Trailed the field thereafter.

SILENT REVERIE – galloped heading into the first turn.

RACE 5 – HIP POCKET WORKWEAR & SAFETY MORNINGTON PACE (1609 MS)

No racing incidents to report.

RACE 6 – BLUE HILLS RISE TROT (2080 MS)

IMPERIAL WHIZ NZ - pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with the HRV Animal Welfare policy having attained 200 or more lifetime starts. No obvious abnormalities detected either examination. Pulled hard when leading.

B K MERLOT NZ – slow to score-up, out of position when start effected; continued to be placed right out of the draw in future mobile start events. Galloped at approx. 200m. Trainer and driver Craig Jamieson explained that the gelding would improve from the effort given that he was first-up in this event. Post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
