STEWARDS REPORT FOR CHARLTON WEDNESDAY 17TH JULY 2024

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

RACE 1 – WIMMERA MALLEE TOURISM PACE  (1609 MS)

General

The start of this race was briefly delayed due to a gear adjustment required on DOT BALL.

REMI MAGIC– hung in near the 1200m.

LIGHTNING BLISS– gave ground over the concluding stages.

UNIVERSAL BOSS- gave ground over the concluding stages.

SEA HUNTER- hung in near the 1200m. Driver Jack Laugher failed to be declared in the racebook.

CORNELIA– trainer Ross Conway was cautioned for failing to have the mare’s freezebrand suitably clipped.

OUR BETTER BRO– hung in during the early part of the home straight.

 

RACE 2- NORTH WEST AG TROTTERS HANDICAP(2100 SS )  

UNSPOKEN LOVE – checked near the 200m and had its offside sulky wheel contacted.

TENSION SEEKER – stood flat footed, slow to begin and will be placed outside the standing start draw. Inconvenienced near the 200m.

PRIMZ LUCK NZ – due to the gelding being 12 years of age, was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Galloped clear of interference approaching the 200m and then locked sulky wheels with MAJESTIC CONNIES NZ. A warning was issued against the racing manners of the gelding.

SURPRISE TO ME – checked near the 200m.

BELLMAC BAMBI – inconvenienced after the start. Checked at the entrance to the home straight and obliged to shift inside marker pegs.

BOUTIKA – inconvenienced after the start.

SURBITON ARMISTICE – due to the gelding being 12 years of age, was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Galloped clear of interference near the 600m and has now been stood down from racing until the satisfactory completion of one (1) trial.

MAJESTIC CONNIES NZ – held up rounding the final turn however was then checked near the 200m and locked sulky wheels with PRIMZ LUCK NZ losing all chance thereafter.

NIGHT WHISPERER – inconvenienced after the start. Checked approaching the 200m, contacted the sulky of UNSPOKEN LOVE and broke gait in consequence.

POPPY POPSTAR – inconvenienced near the 200m.

 

RACE 3 – O’CONNORS CASE IH PACE  (1609 MS)

EL AWOMAN – sulky contacted shortly after the start resulting in a flat tyre being sustained to the outside sulky wheel. Held up for a clear run until using the sprint lane to finish in 5th place.

PINNACLE HOPE- due to the gelding having competed in more than 200 races, was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

ICANMOTOR– pulled hard during the early stages.

PLAYNICE– driver Ryan Sanderson was fined $100 under rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving in allowing his drive to contact the sulky of EL AWOMAN soon after the start, resulting in that runner sustaining a flat tyre.

 

RACE 4 – CHARLTON CARAVAN PARK TROT (1609 MS)

PETITE FOUR– slow to begin from barrier 1.

DANCING SPIDER– held up before using the sprint lane to finish in 3rd place.

SALUTE TO SUNNY– began badly and will be placed outside the mobile barrier draw. Galloped clear of interference rounding the final turn and a warning was issued against the racing manners of the mare which had not raced since April 2024.

MERCURY MATE– galloped during the score up, out of position at the start and will be placed outside the mobile barrier draw. Galloped clear of interference near the 900m and again in the home straight. Placed on its last chance to race truly.

WESTERN BOY– galloped clear of interference near the 400m and was placed on its last chance to race truly.

 

RACE 5 COMMUNITY BANK CHARLTON AND DISTRICT PACE (2100 MS)

TIME TO TORQUE – pulled hard middle stages. Held up for a clear run rounding the final turn and in the early part of the home straight before finishing in 2nd place.

GERRALE– held up for a clear run rounding the final turn before using the sprint lane to finish in 4th place.

A VAPAR STORM– David Murphy was approved as a late driver replacement for Jackie Barker (attending Bendigo meeting transferred to Melton).

MAGICAFTERMIDNIGHT– Liam Older was approved as a late driver replacement for Ellen Tormey (attending Bendigo meeting transferred to Melton).

FOURTH IN LINE– Rod Barker was approved as a late driver replacement for Michael Bellman (attending Bendigo meeting transferred to Melton).

 

RACE 6 – AMES AUSTRALASIA PACE  (1609 MS)

MARKLEIGH CAZ - due to the mare having competed in more than 200 races, was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

OUR ULTIMATE BONNY– gave ground over the concluding stages.

MARY AUSTIN NZ– contacted a marker peg near the 400m, resulting in driver Jordan Leedham becoming momentarily unbalanced and his left foot briefly dropping from the sulky footrest. No action was pursued in view of those circumstances.

CHEDALAYO– Luke Dunne was approved as a late driver replacement for Ellen Tormey (attending Bendigo meeting transferred to Melton).

OVER THE LINE– held up for a clear run rounding the final turn before finishing in 4th place.

 

RACE 7 TAB PACE (2100 MS)

General

The start of this event was briefly delayed due to Gawler thoroughbreds running behind schedule.

FRAGMENTAL– hung out slightly approaching the 200m and was then held up for a clear run until near the 100m when finishing in 2nd place.

FAIR CHANCE– pulled hard during the middle stages whilst leading.

TEX GOES BANG– inconvenienced near the 200m.

SWISS LIGHTNING– sulky contacted near the 200m.

SALSBOY– hung out near the 200m, contacted the sulky of SWISS LIGHTNING and paced roughly losing ground.

 

RACE 8 FITZPATRICK TRANSPORT PACE (1609  MS)

ZWICK – held up for a clear run before using the sprint lane to finish in 5th place.

OURBEACHBABE– driver David Murphy failed to be listed in the racebook.

COURTNEY KATARINA– pulled hard during the middle stages when being restrained to obtain cover.

GEMAEDDE– driver Liam Older was cautioned for using his whip outside of the sulky confines in the home straight.

HURRIKANE DUSTY– pulled hard during the middle stages.

LA FRANK– fractious and refused to participate in the early part of the score up, was out of position at the start and trailed the field throughout. Will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

 

RACE 9 GMG FINANCIAL GROUP PACE (1609 MS)

AREUOHKAY– held up and unable to obtain a clear run in the home straight.

ONA MERRY DANCE– driver Rory Coverdale was fined $100 under rule 156(3) for using the whip in an unapproved manner in that the whip was applied on more occasions than permitted inside the 200m.

PEPPERCORN BARRY– held up for a clear run until using the sprint lane in the home straight.

KIMCHI– Derrick Krafft approved as a driver replacement for James Herbertson (attending Bendigo meeting transferred to Melton).
