General

The start of this race was delayed due to Tamworth thoroughbreds being behind schedule.

POPPY POPSTAR– trotted roughly rounding the first turn.

BAARLINEE– galloped clear of interference shortly after the start and will be placed outside the standing start barrier draw.

RACE 2 - CHARLTON NOV 13 SPRINT LANE AUCTION PACE (1609 MS)

General

Stewards considered a protest lodged by trainer and driver Ashley Ainsworth (THE DEMOCRAT – 4th place) against JOEYS HANGOVER (Liam Older – 2nd place) alleging interference rounding the final turn and again in the home straight. On the evidence available it was established that rounding the final turn passing the 300m THE DEMOCRAT was directed wider to the inside of JOEYS HANGOVER however as that runner had an advantage on THE DEMOCRAT and furthermore due to both SILVER DOMINO and NO EMOTION also shifting slightly wider, where at the same time JOEYS HANGOVER hung in, THE DEMOCRAT was then placed in restricted room and momentarily paced roughly. Further, approaching the 100m, THE DEMOCRAT was disappointed for a clear run between NO EMOTION and JOEYS HANGOVER which both shifted ground marginally. As Stewards were comfortably satisfied that any inconvenience suffered to THE DEMOCRAT was not greater than the 5.7m margin, the protest was dismissed and all clear was declared on the Judge’s placings. Due to the minimal movements involved and that no driver was careless in their actions, no further action was deemed necessary.

THE INTERCEPTOR NZ – galloped during the score up, was out of position at the start and trailed the field throughout. Will be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

MARKLEIGH CAZ – due to the mare having competed in more than 200 races, was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

NO EMOTION– trainer Michael Gadsden was cautioned for presenting the gelding in gear which was not correctly declared. Shifted out slightly approaching the 200m and again in the home straight. Driver Luke Dunne was spoken to advisedly in relation to the required whip action.

JOEYS HANGOVER- due to the gelding having competed in more than 200 races, was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race which revealed no apparent abnormalities. The racebook failed to indicate the driver as Liam Older. Hung in for a short distance passing the 300m.

THE DEMOCRAT- due to the gelding having competed in more than 200 races, was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer Ashley Ainsworth was cautioned for presenting the gelding in gear which was not correctly declared. Tightened for room and paced roughly approaching the 200m. Inconvenienced in the home straight when disappointed for a run between NO EMOTION and JOEYS HANGOVER which both shifted ground marginally.

THE TOOTH FAIRY- trainer Mark Riseley was fined $50 under rule 273 (6)(b) for presenting the mare in gear which was not correctly declared. Mr Riseley had recently been cautioned for this offence.

RACE 3 – GMG FINANCIAL GROUP PACE (1609 MS)

Mr Manton was further fined $200 under rule 156 (2)(a) for using the whip with more than a wrist only flicking action over the concluding stages.

PLAYNICE – trainer Terry French was cautioned for presenting the gelding in gear which was not correctly declared.

General

Prior to all clear Stewards reviewed the available footage with Aaron Dunn, trainer and driver of NEATNTIDY (4th past the post) in relation to the gelding’s gait approaching the winning post. In accordance with VLR 155A(1) as Stewards were satisfied NEATNTIDY had broken gait when reaching the winning post and was covered by TALLARAS SHADOW, NEATNTIDY was relegated to 5th place and TALLARAS SHADOW was promoted to 4th place. All clear was then declared on the amended placings: 6,4,5,10 & 2.

NEATNTIDY– paced roughly and then broke gait at the winning post at the conclusion of the event. Placed on its last chance to race truly. Post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a superficial laceration to the left foreleg, however after minor first aid was administered no further veterinary embargo was required.
