RACE 2 – STEMATIC 3YO MAIDEN TROT (2150M MS)
General
Drivers Neil McCallum (Great Horizon) and Josh Duggan (Lady Of Tiavon) were questioned as to the reasons for Lady Of Tiavon galloping near the 1900m. On the evidence available and after considering the statements made by both drivers it was established that Lady Of Tiavon hung out slightly at the same time as Great Horizon has hung inwards. This has resulted in Lady Of Tiavon contacting the nearside sulky stay of Great Horizon causing Lady Of Tiavon to gallop. Stewards could not be satisfied to the required standard that either driver was to blame and a issued a warning against both Great Horizon and Lady Of Tiavon for hanging.
GETOUTOFMYDREAMS – Held up for a clear run until approaching 200m.

When queried about the performance Driver Jack Laugher stated he was disappointed with tonight’s performance stating the gelding failed to travel strongly whist leading and believed this to be caused by having to run faster sectionals through the early and middle stages of the race than it had at its last 2 previous starts. A post-race veterinary examination failed to find any abnormalities. Driver Jack Laugher was fined $200 pursuant to AHRR 156(2)(a) for using his whip with more than a wrist only flicking action near the 400m.

When queried about his driving tactics Michael Bellman stated when assessing his pre-race tactics, he believed Magic Law would take cover during the early stages of the race, as it had done at its previously, this would allow Im Lady Rhonda to progress to the lead and allow his drive to progress to the position outside the leader. When Im Lady Rhonda failed to progress to the lead near the 1000m it left him with no other option but to race in a three wide position for the rest of the race. His comments were noted.
