Mr Turnbull advised he thought RUSTY DANCER would had sufficient gait speed to lead the event however shortly after the start was effected with multiple runners to his inside showing significant gait speed he allowed the mare to improve steadily forward in an endeavour to obtain the lead afterwards, however when improving to the outside of SHES SOME LEXY to challenge for the lead approaching the 1300m, Mr Turnbull explained it was evident the driver of SHES SOME LEXY was not going to relinquish the position. Mr Turnbull explained RUSTY DANCER was only its second race start & at this stages of its career the mare is not capable of racing without cover such a distance from the finish of the event, Mr Turnbull added when it was evident a position along the marker line was available he elected to obtain the position to allow RUSTY DANCER some respite after enduring initial work during the early stages of the event.
