RACE 1 – THE TAB APP PACE - 2260metres

HYDEEHO NZ – Stewards questioned Driver A. Turnbull in regards to the performance of the gelding. A. Turnbull stated that the gelding hung out significantly after the start and as a result she had to ask more of the gelding in the early stages of the event then she would have liked. A. Turnbull added that rounding the home turn she attempted to utilise the sprint lane however the gelding again hung out and as a result was unable to utilise the sprint lane until near the 80 metres. In view of the racing manners a warning was issued.

SATELLITE SIMBA – Stewards questioned Driver J. Reynolds in regards to the driving tactics adopted on the gelding in particular the tempo of the event set throughout. J. Reynolds stated that the gelding races best in a forward position and therefore he elected to drive forward at the start however when HYDEEHO NZ and SABELLA SHANNON were able to maintain their position to his inside he was caught three wide leaving the 2000 meters. J. Reynolds said that once racing three wide he was of the opinion that when SABELLA SHANNON wasn’t able to find the lead that runner was looking for cover and therefore he continue to apply pressure to his gelding to obtain the position outside the lead near the 1600 metres. J. Reynolds further added that once outside the lead it appeared as though HYDEEHO NZ was looking to surrender the lead and therefore he continued to drive forward and was able to obtain the lead near the 1500 metres. J. Reynolds further said that once obtaining the lead he was able to steady the tempo from the 1400 metres until leaving the 1000 metres at which point SABELLA SHANNON improved to his outside and as a result he tempo of the event increased again which in his opinion was detrimental to his gelding. J. Reynolds added that leaving the 600 metres the gelding became under pressure and didn’t respond to his driving over the final 500 metres which he was concerned with as he was of the opinion something may have been amiss with the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow recovery. In considering the matter Stewards advised Driver J. Reynolds that he erred significantly in his tactics during the early stages of the event when he continue to pressure for the lead resulting in a lead time significantly faster than the average recorded for this distance at Bathurst and that he should have attempted to give the gelding some respite during the middle stages of the event. Furthermore given the performance of the gelding it will be stood down until it can complete one satisfactory trial.
