RACE 1 – DOWNLOAD THE TAB APP TODAY PACE – 1730 metres

BEACHRIDE– Post-race swab sampled.

GWYNETH P NZ– Pre-race swab sampled.

CAMSTAR ROAD – Over-raced during the middle stages of the event.

GABBYS SPORTSTAR – Examined by the Club Veterinarian prior to the race, as it has had over 200 race starts, and cleared to start.

RACE 2 – BATHURST TOYOTA PACE – 1730 metres

BETTING JEWEL – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Driver J Chapple was questioned regarding the tactics adopted tonight on the mare, in particular his decision to shift out from behind the leader COLIN BROMAC NZ near the 400 metres, which resulted in him having to shift out to a four wide position to obtain clear running upon entering the home straight, when there appeared to be an opportunity to remain behind the leader and obtain a run in the sprint lane. J Chapple stated that he noticed entering the final turn that COLIN BROMAC NZ had had its ear plugs pulled and approaching the 400 metres felt it was under pressure while BETTING RANGER, which was racing to its outside, appeared to be travelling better than it, and he was concerned that COLIN BROMAC NZ would not take him to the sprint lane. He added for that reason he elected to attempt to shift out near the 400 metres, and felt he was in a position where he was going to be able to push ROCKIN IN PARADISE, which was racing to his outside, out and it would improve around BETTING RANGER and he would obtain clear running to its outside. He further added while he was able to push ROCKIN IN PARADISE out, it did not accelerate as quickly as he thought it would, given the run it had to that point, and he was held up behind it when YES YOU MAY also improved to their outside. J Chapple added that while he had his momentum held up for a short distance, he felt the way his runner was unable to sprint with YES YOU MAY when he got clear, that if he had of stayed behind the leader and waited for a run in the sprint lane he would have finished in a different position. While Stewards were of the view that he had erred in not waiting for a run in the sprint lane, given the way COLIN BROMAC NZ had been able to finish the race off, they did not feel his tactics were unreasonable given his explanation for them.

SCRUFFY NZ– Broke gait after the start, given the gelding’s record connections were advised that it would be placed outside the draw for future mobile start races.

HUNK OF SPUNK– A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Connections were advised that it would be stood down from racing for 3 months, that they would be required to provide a Veterinary certificate of fitness for the gelding, and it would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial prior to resuming racing.

WATCHMEDAZZLE– Caught racing three wide from the start, over-raced while being restrained to take up a position on the marker pegs at the rear of the field near the 1000 metres.

ROCKIN IN PARADISE– Pre-race swab sampled.

PACING HOPE NZ– Post-race swab sampled.

KISSED BY A ROSE– Tightened entering the first turn, when racing to the inside of SPORTY MARY which shifted-in. Tired over the concluding stages. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. When given the opportunity to comment on the performance, Trainer/Driver N Turnbull stated that he was disappointed with its performance tonight, as he was with its previous start. He added that he was likely to give it a freshen up prior to its next start in an endeavour to get it to improve.

SPORTY MARY– Shifted in entering the first turn, resulting in runners being tightened for room to its inside. At a subsequent inquiry, Driver T Bullock pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference, in that entering the first turn, he made insufficient effort to prevent his runner from shifting-in when not sufficiently clear of KISSED BY A ROSEwhich was tightened for room, and taken in on to MENDOZA LASS, which was tightened for room and locked wheels with HALL CASH and those runners were checked. Furthermore, as a result of those runners locking wheels and being checked, TULHURST DANCER,MERAKI and THE ROGUE I AM were checked, and BETTING STAR and ROCKINDOWNUNDER were inconvenienced. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account T Bullock’s guilty plea, his driving record with regards to this rule and the particular circumstances of the incident, in particular the number of runners that were affected. Driver T Bullock had his license to drive in races suspended for a period of 21 days, to commence at midnight the 26th of April. Post-race swab sampled.

OURSWEETPOG – Over-raced during the middle stages of the event. WORKS FOR ME NZ– Worked forward to take over the lead from RICKOSHAY approaching the 1000 metres.

RICKOSHAY – Worked forward to take over the lead from MAN MOUNTAIN approaching the 1200 metres. Held up for clear running until near the 100 metres. Driver Z Fitzpatrick was questioned regarding the tactics adopted with the gelding, in particular her decision to shift out from behind the leader WORKS FOR ME NZ approaching the 200 metres, when there appeared to be an opportunity to remain behind it and obtain a run in the sprint lane, which would have enabled her runner to obtain clear running earlier than it did. Z Fitzpatrick stated that when she elected to shift out from behind WORKS FOR ME NZ she felt PAS DE CHEVAL which was racing to its outside had gained an advantage over it and was going to go past it, and she felt she would be able to obtain a run between those two runners. She added that a short distance later WORKS FOR ME NZ was able to get back to near level with PAS DE CHEVAL resulting in her being unable to obtain that run and she had to shift out wider to obtain clear running. As Z Fitzpatrick’s evidence was supported by the patrol footage, no action was taken.

PAS DE CHEVAL – Hung-in rounding the turn leaving the 1000 metres.

THERESA LOVE NZ– Pre-race swab sampled. Post-race swab sampled.

Trainer/Driver A Frisby was questioned regarding the performance, he stated that he felt it was up in class from its previous start, with tonight’s race ran in significantly quicker time than when it won last start. He added that it began well and travelled well until leaving the 400 metres when it was under pressure to maintain the speed of the leader.

General– An inquiry into the reasons for JOSEY MINT appearing to contact the sulky wheel of NEVERTOOLATE and race roughly leaving the 400 metres, was adjourned to a later date due to Driver M Rue (NEVERTOOLATE) having left the course.Stewards concluded the inquiry at Bathurst on the 1st of May. Driver’s P Wood (JOSEY MINT), M Rue (NEVERTOOLATE) and N Turnbull (ROCK STEADY) gave evidence during the inquiry and the patrol footage was re-viewed. It was established that JOSEY MINT, which was initially inclined to hang-out rounding the turn, was tightened for room when NEVERTOOLATE hung-in slightly. As a result JOSEY MINT shifted-in away from that runner, and attempted to jump a marker peg and raced roughly as it’s inside sulky wheel contacted marker pegs. Given the circumstances, Stewards were of the view that it was a reportable racing incident.

A false start was declared at the first attempt to start the race when the mare contacted marker pegs during the score-up and broke gait. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that JOSEY MINT had been slow to face the mobile and as a result was improving forward from behind and to the inside of JOHEMIAN which was drawn on the inside of the second row. That runner shifted-in into its rightful position as JOSEY MINT improved to its inside, and as a result JOSEY MINT shifted-in, contacted marker pegs and broke gait, given the circumstances no action was taken. Worked forward to take over the lead from SUSIEQ SHANNON near the 1200 metres.
