RACE 1 – RELIANCE BANK PACE – 1730 metres

ALPHA XENA– Commenced to tire passing the 400 metres to be beaten 33.9 metres. 

FOREVER MORE– Driver Neville Donnelly was fined $400 under rule 156(2)(a) for applying the whip in more than a wrist only flicking motion over the concluding stages of the event.

SMOOTH BUZZ– Post-race swab.

MIA ON– Out of position at the start and due to the speed of the mobile no action was taken.

WEONA SIR VIVOR – Caught wide in the early stages before working forward to find a position outside the leader passing the 1250 metres. 

WEONA MISS FORTUNE– Pre-race blood test. 

 

RACE 2 – TOWN & COUNTRY RURAL SUPPLIES PACE – 2260 metres

ART THOU LEXY– Stewards questioned driver Doug Hewitt in relation to the tactics he adopted in tonight’s event, in particular his decision to maintain the lead when being challenged by DANCE ADDITION until a point passing the 1950 metres and a further challenge from DON ARTHUR until a point passing the 1800 metres before commencing to weaken passing the 700 metres to be beaten 128.5 metres. Mr Hewitt explained that he began only fairly and as a result, ART THOU LEXY worked harder than anticipated to maintain the lead. Mr Hewitt explained that he felt that his best chance to win the event was to lead as his filly races best when in front however explained that after receiving the second challenge from DON ARTHUR he felt that this early work which resulted in a faster than average lead time had contributed to his filly weakening from the 700 metres. After considering the explanation provided, Stewards did not find that Mr Hewitt’s tactics were that unreasonable in all of the circumstances and noting the filly’s disappointing performance, ART THOU LEXY was stood down until it completes one requalifying trial. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

 

MCARDLE MAGIC– Commenced to tire passing the 600 metres to be beaten 173.1 metres.  In view of the gelding’s performance MCARDLE MAGIC will be required to perform one requalifying trial.  Trainer Billy Kitt advised that it is his intention to now spell MCARDLE MAGIC and as such the gelding was stood down for a period 28 days.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

ALLSTARZZZ FRANKIE– Post-race swab.

DON ARTHUR– Pre-race blood test.  Caught wide in the early stages before working forward to find a position outside the leader passing the 1900 metres.

STUDLEIGH MELISE– Had a tendency to over race throughout the event.  Inconvenienced between the 700 metres and the 550 metres when held up behind the tiring ART THOU LEXY.

 

RACE 3 – THE KNICKERBOCKER HOTEL ACE – 1730 metres

TULHURST TERROR– A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the horse having competed in excess of 200 race starts.  Both examinations failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. 

THE RAINBOW BEACH– Driver Mitch Turnbull was questioned in regards to his driving tactics in tonight’s event and the overall performance of the gelding.  Mr Turnbull added that after beginning well THE RAINBOW BEACH lead comfortably and from that point  commenced to over race and he was unable to restrain the gelding any further resulting in quarters being run faster than planned (28.6, 28.6 and 28.0), the gelding failed to run on over the concluding stages to be beaten 10.8 metres.  Mr Turnbull was disappointed in the racing manners of THERAINBOW BEACH however stated that he wasn’t disappointed in the overall performance of the gelding. In view of the racing manners of THE RAINBOW BEACH a warning was issued.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

MISTER COLE– Pre-race blood test.  Post-race swab.

REASON TO BE– Driver Amy Day was questioned into her driving tactics adopted in tonight’s event, of particular concern to the Stewards was Ms Day’s decision to angle the gelding wider at a point upon entering the home straight instead of utilising the sprint lane.  Ms Day stated that she was able to secure a peg line run to be in a position behind the THE RAINBOW BEACH approximately 30 metres before the sprint lane became available and at that point THE RAINBOW BEACH commenced to tire abruptly and Ms Day had to check her gelding wider to prevent contacting the sulky wheel of that gelding.  From that point on Ms Day had progressed forward of the wheel of THE RAINBOWBEACH and was unable to restrain to go back in a position to utilise the sprint lane and was unable to find clear running over the concluding stages and was held up and not fully tested.  Stewards noted the comments of Ms Day.

IM IN TROUBLE– Driver Blake Micallef was fined $250 under rule 159A(7) for presenting to drive in a race in a body protector which had not been approved by Harness Racing Australia.  Broke in the score up and was out of position at the start and took no competitive part for which a warning was issued.

 

RACE 4 – BALLINGER TRANSPORT PACE – 1730 metres

CARLO GAMBINO NZ– Pre-race blood test. 

JILLIBY DINGO– Driver John O’Shea was questioned in relation to the overall performance of the gelding which commenced to give ground from the 250 metres to be beaten 17.5 metres.  Mr O’Shea explained that after being able to lead he felt that the gelding travelled strongly throughout, however when asked for an effort failed to run on over the concluding stages and was disappointed in the performance but could offer no further explanation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Trainer Peter Russo reported the gelding recovered poorly and JILIBY DINGO would now be given a two week freshen up before returning to the races.

SMOOTH OVERARM NZ– Hung in passing the 400 metres. 

BRACKEN WARRIOR– Tightened and inconvenienced passing the 400 metres as a result of SMOOTH OVERARM NZ hanging in.

JOETOMO– Held up for clear running in the home straight and was not fully tested. 

KARLOO LOUIE– Post-race swab.

 

RACE 5 – THE TAB APP WARATAH HEAT – 1730 metres

IRVINE– Driver Amy Day was cautioned for her whip use over the concluding stages of the event.  Post-race swab.

TINKA TERROR– Pre-race blood test.

THE HUSTLER NZ– Caught wide in the early stages before being restrained to last passing the 1250 metres.  Held up in the early stages of the home straight.

GABBYS REASON– Caught wide in the early stages before working forward to find a position passing the 1300 metres.  Commenced to tire passing the 400 metres beaten 45.4 metres

WHOS MY MOTHER NZ– A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the horse having not competed in a race in over 12 months.  Both examinations failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

 

RACE 6 – COBBITTY EQUINE 2YO MAIDEN PACE – 1730 metres

OUR SAILOR– Raced greenly passing the winning post hanging out under pressure making contact with OUR REDEMPTION which was racing to the outside of OUR SAILOR.  Post-race swab.

SPECIAL SPIN– Pre-race blood test. 

LADY ROCKABELLUM– Caught wide in the early stages before working forward to find a position outside the leader passing the 1400 metres. 

 

RACE 7 – MOOREHEAD CRANES 2YO MAIDEN PACE – 1730 metres

EXCESS VITALITY– Pre-race blood test.  Post-race swab.

TRIPLE EMM– Driver Kellie Munro was fined $250 under rule 159A(7) for presenting to drive in a body protector not approved by Harness Racing Australia. Broke after the start for which a warning was issued.  Trainer Michael Munro advised the filly would now be sent for a spell and as such the filly was stood down for a period of 28 days. 

TEAM SPORT– Broke after the start and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

KING BOBBIE– Hung out during the score up. 

WHISPERS – Stewards delayed all clear to determine whether WHISPERS was afforded a fair start in the event when racing to the outside of KING BOBBIE which was hanging out inconveniencing WHISPERS which was unable to fully maintain its position behind the mobile. On review of the films it was established that WHISPERS had been afforded a fair start and all clear was given on the judge’s numbers (2,1,4,6).

RACE 8 – DESIGNING WINDOWS MAIDEN PACE – 1730 metres

LILLY SHANNON– Post-race swab.

RUBY CAMBO– Slow to begin from the mobile barrier.  Raced greenly passing the 150 metres and was held up for clear running in the home straight and was not fully tested.

VILDE CHAYA– Passing the 400 metres hung in raced roughly and broke gait.  In view of the gelding’s recent record VILDE CHAYA will now be required to perform one requalifying trial.

WELLSAIDMYLADY– Pre-race blood test.  At a point between the 550 and the 500 metres paced roughly and the filly lost her position in the running line.  In view of the manners of WELLSAIDMYLADY a warning was issued.

ASUWERE– Commenced to tire passing the 500 metres to be beaten 64.7 metres.  In view of the horse having its first start it will be required to perform one requalifying trial.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
