General:
A false start was declared on the first occasion when a number of horses contacted the mobile barrier arm prior to the start due to the mobile not accelerating away from the field.

LIMBO LILLY - Stewards questioned Driver P. Betts in regards to the driving tactics adopted on the mare during the early and middle stages of the event and the overall performance. P. Betts stated that the mare races best in front as it has a tendency to lose concentration when trailing runners. P. Betts added that due to the false start after finding the lead on the second occasion the mare over-raced in the early stages of the event when asked to withstand a challenge from runners wider on the track. P. Betts said that she was able to obtain a slower first quarter however when challenged by POPS LEGACY near the 1100 metres she attempted to maintain the lead however the mare wasn't able to muster sufficient speed and therefore was crossed near the 1000 metres. P. Betts further added that once crossed the mare commenced to give ground and subsequently didnt respond to her driving. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. In view of the performance the mare will be stood down until it can complete one satisfactory trial.

Dwyer stated that due to the false start the gelding raced keenly throughout the event and as such when asked for an effort from the 400 metres failed to respond to her driving. General:
Stewards considered an objection lodged by Driver W. Cassell (MATTERSON EXPRESS) which was placed 2nd by the judge against the winner JOES REDEMPTION (N. Turnbull) for alleged interference over the final 100 metres. After taking evidence from both driver and viewing the films it was established that near the 100 metres JOES REDEMPTION shifted out under pressure however didn’t impact the running of MATTERSON EXPRESS who was continually being driven forward. Approaching the 30 metres JOES REDEMPTION again shifted out under pressure and dictated the line of MATTERSON EXPRESS for a short distance obliging its driver to steady. As Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred that MATTERSON EXPRESS would have finished in advance of JOES REDEMPTION the protest was dismissed and the all-clear given.

Turnbull stated that he elected to drive forward at the start and when commencing to shift down the track near the 1500 metres the filly paced roughly for a short distance and therefore lost his momentum. N. Turnbull added that once balanced he again worked forward and challenged for the lead and as a result had to work harder then he would have liked to cross TULHURST TOOT TOOT. N. Turnbull added that the filly was under pressure from the 500 metres and failed to respond to his driving. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
