STEWARDS REPORT FOR BALLARAT

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

RACE 1 BRANDT X9 MAIDEN TROT (2200 MS)

Tornado Kev (barrier 8) broke gait during the score up, was out of position at the start, trailed the field throughout and will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Mielicki (barrier 9) was out of position at the start and will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Spotlight (barrier 5) broke gait shortly after the start and will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Thats My Armbro broke gait on two occasions free of interference (1200m and 600m) and was placed on its last chance to race truly.

Near the 1100m, Spotlight raced greenly prior to breaking gait free of interference and was issued a warning.

Mielicki was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight and leaving the 50m, broke gait free of interference and galloped over the line. Prior to the declaration of all-clear Stewards reviewed the gelding galloping over the line and as it was determined that the horse galloped free of interference in addition to being covered by the 5th placed Hidden Fire as specified under VLR 155A(2), Mielicki was relegated to 5th place in accordance with VLR 155A(1) and the all-clear was announced on the amended numbers 3-1-2-4.

RACE 2 BRANDT PRECISION AG PACE (1710 MS)

Calypso Mistress was declared a late scratching at 9:51am on vets advice.

Shannon O’Sullivan, the driver of Jacks Command was fined $100 under Rule 162(1)(h) for failing to come up to the barrier by the starting point resulting in the gelding being out of position at the start.

Jacks Command pulled hard during the event.

RACE 3 – BRANDT S120 MOWER PACE (1710 MS)

Didshedoit NZ (barrier 2) hung in during the score up for which a warning was issued.

Entering the first turn, Didshedoit NZ hung in, paced roughly and galloped free of interference prior to coming together with the galloping Miss Daphne. Didshedoit NZ was placed on its last chance to race truly. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Driver Jack Laugher was cautioned as to his whip use displayed on the mare following coming together with Miss Daphne.

Entering the first turn, Miss Daphne hung out prior to galloping and came together with the galloping Didshedoit NZ and was placed on its last chance to race truly. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Ire Of The Dragon, Self Exclusion and Loyola Golf were all checked rounding the first turn when shifting around Didshedoit NZ and Miss Daphne which came together.

Jackie Barker, the driver of Loyola Golf was fined $200 under Rule 156(3) for applying her whip in excess of 20 occasions over the final 200m.

RACE 4 – BRANDT PRO GATOR 2YO PACE (1710 MS)

Nathan Purdon, the trainer of Oliver Dan was cautioned for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the colt.

Aaron Dunn, the trainer of You Beauty and Little Louie was cautioned for failing to notify Stewards of the intended tactics for both runners.

Oliver Dan (barrier 1) broke gait shortly after the start, shifted out and inconvenienced You Beauty. The colt will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Captain Foxtrot and Spicey Major both raced keenly during the middle stages.

Little Louie paced roughly rounding the final turn. Aaron Dunn, the trainer and driver of Little Louie explained that his colt paced roughly when improving wide rounding the final turn as the pace quickened and lost its momentum, however, once balancing up found the line relatively well in the home straight. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 5 - BDTC150 ON TWITTER PACE (1710 MS)

Wunderland was declared a late scratching at 2:40pm on vets advice.

Tophut Johny and Roylance both pulled hard during the middle stages.

Declan Murphy, the driver of Iron Chariot pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that racing towards the final turn, he permitted his horse to shift wider when not clear of Final Bow resulting in that runner being placed in restricted room to the inside of Presidentialchange before being checked and breaking gait which in turn inconvenienced Emjays Black Chip. Mr Murphy had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 7 days which was ordered to commence at midnight, Friday 10 June 2022 and to expire on Saturday 18 June 2022 on which day he may drive. When considering penalty Stewards were mindful of Mr Murphy’s guilty plea, driving and offence record and the circumstances surrounding this incident.

RACE 6 – BRANDT TROTTERS HANDICAP (2200 SS)

Little Yankee was declared a late scratching at 6:49pm on vets advice when trainer Lindsay Rogers reported the gelding to have slipped in the float on arrival to the track. Acting under veterinarian advice, Little Yankee was stood down until a certificate of fitness is submitted.

A false start was called at the first attempt when the 20m tape failed to release. As a result of the damage caused to the automatic starting mechanism, the 2nd start was activated with handheld barrier tapes. As a result of this delay race 6 was approximately 9 min late.

Dontouch The Duco (20m Handicap) began badly when galloping away and will continue to be excluded from the standing start barrier draw.

Namoscar (20m Handicap) broke gait shortly after the start and will continue to be excluded from the standing start barrier draw.

Dontouch The Duco raced keenly throughout the event prior to giving ground over the final 500m to finish in 11th position, beaten 44.2m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Driver Chris Lang explained that his gelding failed to settle whilst back in the field and outside of the leader and this had proved detrimental to its chances.

Abundance NZ was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

Hurricane Ed shifted ground over the concluding stages of the event which permitted a run for Abundance NZ which improved into 2nd position. At a subsequent inquiry, Jack Laugher, the driver of Hurricane Ed was fined $100 under Rule 162(1)(www)(c) for failing to make sufficient effort to prevent his gelding from shifting ground and this resulted in Abundance NZ gaining an advantage.

Highland Hill was held up for clear running for the entire length of the home straight and was not fully tested.

RACE 7 – FLYING HORSE ENTERTAINMENT VENUE PACE (1710 MS)

Modern Bliss (Barrier 3) paced roughly for a short distance after the start.

Major Watson NZ hung out rounding the final turn and passing the 100m, hung out and locked wheels momentarily with Chubby Checker NZ. 

RACE 8 – ABBA TRIBUTE SHOW 23RD JULY PACE (2200 MS)

Better Exclusive NZ hung in and contacted marker pegs rounding the home turn and near the 100m.

RACE 9 – WWW.BALLARATTROTTINGCLUB.COM.AU 3YO PACE (2200 MS)

No racing incidents to report.

RACE 10 – BRANDT 6 SERIES 2YO & 3YO TROT (2200 MS)

Kelvin Barker, the trainer of Sequence was cautioned for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the filly.

Sir Ed (barrier 3) shifted in prior to the start and began badly when galloping out, trailed the field throughout and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw. Sequence which was drawn to its inside was inconvenienced.

Sequence (barrier 2) broke gait shortly after the start and was placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw. In view of the inconvenience at the start, Stewards took no further action.

Constant (barrier 7) hung in during the score up, was out of position at the start and broke gait shortly after the start. The filly will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Maoris Return trotted roughly from the 400m and failed to run on to finish in 5th position, beaten 61.9m. No action was taken against the performance.

Near the 300m, Sequence broke gait free of interference and was issued a warning.

RACE 11 – BOOK NOW FOR CHRISTMAS IN JULY PACE (2200 MS)

Lester and Bart Maguire NZ raced keenly during the middle stages.

Near the 400m, Karalta Courage was tightened when placed in restricted room between My Darling Dance which hung in and Lester which was taken wider by its driver Connor Ronan. In view of the contributing factors, Connor Ronan was issued a caution for shifting ground.

Gotta Go Gladys weakened over the final stages to finish in 8th position, beaten 54.1m for which a warning was issued.

Leica Gem was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
