Trainers with multiple runners in any one race provided stewards with their intentions prior to the event.

Stewards approved the late driver changes of all M. A. Smiths drives for today’s race meeting, due to the unavailability of M.A. Smith. Stewards advised M.A. Smith of their intention to open an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his unavailability and in accordance with AHRR 183(d) his licence has been suspended until the conclusion of the inquiry.

RACE 1 – 1800-GOT-JUNK? PACE – 1609MS

MAJOR MAD – Driver J. Kittel was reminded of his obligations with regard to occupying a true racing position.

MONSIEUR STEEL – Out of position when the start was effected, driver B. Page was reprimanded under Rule 162(1)(h) for failing to come up into position. Stewards questioned driver B. Page regarding the tactics she adopted, in particular her decision to remain in a trailing position near the 600 metres, when there was an opportunity to move wider on the track and then being held up on the back of MAJOR MAD, from the 600 until the 400 and lost valuable ground as a consequence. B. Page stated that she had intended to move prior to GIANT JACKSON moving up on her outside, however she believed MAJOR MAD was going to move wider, as MAJOR MAD had started to move toward a three wide line, however, commenced to trail a wheel for some distance, shortly thereafter MAJOR MAD remained in the one wide line and she was unable to shift GIANT JACKSON wider from that point on. B. Page also stated that she had been asked by the trainer not to give MONSIEUR STEEL a “gut buster”, first up from a spell, which had influenced her decision not to move three wide prior to the 600 metres. Stewards noted her explanation.

RACE 4 – PODIATRY CARE GAWLER TROTTERS HANDICAP– 2070MS

THE CLIPPER – Showed gate speed and worked forward to the position outside the leader and then commenced to over-race when in that position.

WILLIS GRAHAM – Gave ground from the 500 metres to eventually be beaten 76.0 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding was suffering a respiratory issue and it was recommended further investigation should be conducted by the trainer and his veterinarian, but no stand down was required. A warning was issued regarding its performance.

IM SHIPPING STEEL – As the field raced into the first turn the gelding cast its off hind plate and then broke gait, under the circumstances, no action was taken.

ATOUT – Locked wheels with JANES GEM near the 300 metres, drive D. Hill attempted to free her sulky from the other sulky by applying pressure, with her forearm, on the shaft of the other sulky. As her action was one based around safety, Stewards elected to take no action.
