Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

RACE 1 –ARARAT RSL TROTTERS HANDICAP (2165M SS)

OLD VILLA BOY – Offside sulky wheel was contacted by SALSKI resulting in a flat tyre. The gelding was subsequently retired from the event.

FRANCO NOVELIST NZ - Pre race sample obtained.

BAKER CREEK NZ - tired (64m) over the concluding stages however in view of the track record being recorded no action was taken for this performance.

LOOKAT SPUNKY TROT - restrained after the start, then checked by ZIGARA LASS (when it broke gait) at the winning post on the first occasion.

ALDEBARAN BUDDY- out of position at the start. Driver Rod Barker was cautioned for failing to have the gelding in position at the start. Was then restrained after the start and inconvenienced at the winning post on the first occasion when ZINGARA LASS broke gait.

ALDEBARANSPARTACUS - caught wide in the early stages of the event, before then tiring (79.6m). A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had suffered from atrial fibrillation. In accordance with AHR rule 101C (2)(a), ALDEBARANSPARTACUS  has been stood down from racing for 14 days, pending a veterinary clearance, inclusive of a satisfactory ECG report and until the completion of one satisfactory trial.

PROSPEROUS - Inconvenienced after the start when EARL PATRICK broke gait. Then broke gait free from interference in the home straight on the first occasion. Given the performance the mare was stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.

RACE 7 –ROD DONALDSON - ARARAT REMEMBERS 0-2 LTW PACE (2195MMS)

EASTBRO KOZZY - gate speed led and withstood a challenge from T BONE WALKER.

THE SILENT ASSASSIN NZ - restrained after the start. Post race swab sample obtained.

T BONE WALKER NZ - unsuccessfully contested the lead, then positioned outside the leader (EASTBRO KOZZY) through the event. Tired to be beaten (95.1m) at $1.80 fav. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities. Given the performance of the gelding it was stood down until it completes one requalifying trial. Driver David DRURY was questioned as to the performance of T BONE WALKER. Mr Drury had expected the gelding to perform better than what occurred. Mr Drury also stated the gelding performed more competitively when winning its most recent start. Mr Drury also indicated in hindsight he may have been a bit easy on the gelding’s work leading up to this event. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days. * 16/11/24 - Supplementary report Trainer David Drury advised that T BONE WALKER NZ has since trialled satisfactorily at Mount Gambier and he will continue with the gelding's current racing preparation.

LINE UP JACQUIE - Restrained after the start, before improving three wide during the middle stages and latter stages before tiring (50.4m). When questioned in relation to the driving tactics employed and his decision to improve three wide near the 1300 metres, Driver J Finnis explained that after settling towards the rear of the field in the early stages the mare was inclined to over-race when trailing other runners and proved difficult to settle. Mr Finnis added that when the tempo slackened during the first quarter, he elected to improve three wide in an attempt to obtain the position outside of the leader and believed that position would have been available given the early work T BONE WALKER NZ had sustained when unsuccessfully challenging for the lead.  Mr Finnis further added that when improving to the immediate outside of that runner near the 900 metres the driver indicated that the position would be unavailable which left the mare racing three wide and ultimately giving ground from the 500 metres. Mr Finnis explained that the mare has displayed its prior best form when racing without cover albeit that his runner was second up today from a spell and given the racing manners of the mare during the early stages he believed had the mare been able to obtain the position outside of leader it would have aided his runner. After consideration, Stewards were mindful of the racing manners during the early and overall performance, however Mr Finnis was advised that his decision to drive as aggressively as he did during the middle stages was detrimental and that he must always drive with the requisite level of acumen and judgement. Accordingly, J Finnis was issued a caution for his lack of judgement.

RACE 8 – LYN RUSSELL - ARARAT REMEMBERS PACE (1790M MS)

SASSCILIAN - Restrained after the start. Held up for clear running on the final turn prior to utilising the sprint lane in the home straight.

RUBY WINGATE - Shifted out when attempting a three wide position in the back straight on the first occasion which resulted in EASTBRO JESSE (L Older) being forced into a four wide position. Mr R Duffy was issued with a caution for shifting another runner wider.

EASTBRO JESSE - Pre-race swab sample obtained. Three wide early and then inconvenienced into a four wide position in the back straight on the first occasion.
