Adelle NZ (Nathan Dawson) The Stewards inquired into the driving tactics used during the race, particularly regarding the decision to move the mare from the one out two back position at the 500 metres to racing along the inside, which resulted in Adelle NZ being held up on the entrance to the home straight. The mare was able to utilise the Sprint Lane and finish in third place, 3.8 meters behind the winner Majestic Lavros. Nathan Dawson explained that he took into consideration the mare's recent form, which was not at its best, and the fact the mare was handicapped off 30 metres, and so made the decision to stay on the inside rather than racing wide around the final turn. He stated that he saved ground by improving along the marker pegs and further benefitted when Indefensible shifted one wide, providing him with a trail up behind the leader and the first opportunity to utilise the sprint lane. Mr. Dawson also expressed disappointment with Dontouchtheduco's performance, as the gelding failed to run on as expected from the 200 metres. He added that Adelle NZ recorded a personal mile rate of 1.59.4 for the 2647 metres, which equated to a track record. The Stewards took note of Mr. Dawson's explanation.
