PEPPA - Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection as the filly had not raced since May 2024. Passed fit to take its place in the field. Inclined to race roughly at various stages.
SMARTER THAN YOU – out of position at the start and slow to muster speed. When questioned regarding the overall performance of the gelding, driver Angus Garrard explained he was cautious coming up to the start as the gelding was very green. He said he was happy with the rearward trailing position in the early stages and moved up three wide from the 700 metres but was surprised when Hold Ma Halo moved out in advance of him. He stated that filly failed to make ground three wide and he was obliged to race four wide from the 400 metres and Smarter Than You finished off the race particularly well. Stewards noted the explanation and Angus Garrard was reprimanded under AHR rule 162(1)(j) for failing to maintain position behind the gate until the starting point.
THE SQUARE DANCER- moved out three wide at the 1300 metres to work forward and ultimately gain the position without cover at the 1000 metres. Gave ground in the concluding stages to finish last beaten 71 metres. The gelding will be placed on its last chance to race competitively.
