Race 1 - GARRARDS HORSE & HOUND QUALIFYING PACE (SKY 2) 1660M
SMOOTH OVERARMNZ - hung in throughout the race when leading. Connections were advised to take corrective measures.
RACING TIME – caught three wide in the early stages before working forward to occupy a position outside the leader.
KING OF TRUMPS NZ – raced wide for the forst 400 metres before being restrained to a rearward trailing position.
Race 2 - LADBROKES BET TICKER BAND 5 PACE 2138M
KHAFAJI – underwent a pre race veterinary inspection following a six month absence from racing. Passed fit to take its place in the field. The headcheck on Khafaji became detached during the score up resulting in Brendan Barnes raising his hand to the starter.
BETTERTHAN POPSY – required a shoe replacement to the off side fore after casting a plate in the initial score up.
SUNDAY MORNINGS - pulled hard throughout the race when leading which contributed to the gelding tiring in the concluding stages. Connections were advised to take corrective measures.
THE RAINBOW BEACH - caught wide in the early stages and was unsuccessful in obtaining the position outside the leader which resulted in the gelding being restrained to the rear of the field.
ROCKS OR DIAMONDS - inclined to pull hard during the race.
MOSSDALE TERRY NZ – jibbed in the initial score up and a warning was issued.
General
A false start was declared on the first attempt when driver Brendan Barnes raised his hand after the head check had become detached on Khafaji. The start was further delayed due to Bettertan Popsy losing an off fore shoe which required farrier attention. As a result this race commenced six minutes past the advertised starting time.
Race 3 - 2024 PRYDE'S EASIFEED FOREVER GOLD MARES OPEN (GROUP 3) 1660M
THE VICAR OF DIBLEY NZ - caught wide in the early stages before being restrained to the rear of the field.
NYOTA - contacted two marker pegs on the first turn after the start when racing tight to the inside of Sergios Rocket.
General
Adam Sanderson (Sergios Rocket) was reprimanded under AHR rule 168 (1) (a) for allowing his mare to shift down closer to the marker pegs on the first turn when insufficiently clear of Nyota which required driver Amanda Turnbull to take hold of her mare momentarily contacting marker pegs as a result.
Race 4 - 2024 THE BILL DIXON 1660M
MYNAMESEVAN - broke a number two carrying strap shortly after the start which may have placed the gelding at some disadvantage for the remainder of the race. The gear was inspected and found to be in good order and the carrying strap buckles were taped so no further action was taken. Sustained a near side flat tyre on entrance to the home straight in the run to the finish.
R ELEVEN ART NZ- raced three wide for the first 600 metres before obtaining the position outside the leader.
LUVBITE - raced three wide in the early stages and was unsuccessful in obtaining a position closer to the marker pegs which resulted in the gelding racing three wide for the entire race.
KICKATINALONGPONY - inconvenienced at the 500 metres when Raging Sea galloped in advance.
DUKE OF SCOTLAND NZ - contacted the near side sulky wheel of Mynamesvan on entrance to the sprint lane in the run to the finish.
RAGING SEA - broke free of interference approaching the 500 metres and lost considerable ground. After considering a good record in this regard, connections were advised the gelding would be placed on its last chance to race truly.
General
Pete McMullen (Duke Of Scotland NZ) was fined $100 under AHR rule 168 (1) (a) for carelessly contacting and puncturing the near side sulky tyre of Mynamesvan on entrance to the sprint lane in the run to the finish.
Race 5 – 2024 PACE WITH MATES QUEENSLAND CUP (GROUP 2) 2138M
CURLY JAMES – inclined to pull hard when racing four back on the marker pegs.
BRAEDOS LAD -pulled hard throughout the race which contributed to the gelding tiring in the concluding stages. A warning was issued and connections were advised to take corrective measures.
General
Jack Callaghan (Curly James) was fined $200 under AHR rule 156 (2) (a) for engaging the elbow and shoulder when applying the whip on entrance to the home straight.
Race 6 - 2024 PRYDE'S EASIFEED TROTTERS SPRING SPRINT (GROUP 3) 1660M
TOP OF THE MOMENT NZ – galloped free of interference at the 800 metres and lost considerable ground. A post race veterinary inspection of the gelding revealed Top Of The Moment NZ to be sore in the hind legs. The Stewards adopted the vet’s recommendation that Top Of The Moment NZ not be permitted to race until a veterinary clearance is provided.
FUNNY FACE NZ – galloped free of interference at the 1100 metres and lost significant ground. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be sore in the near side fore. The Stewards adopted the vets recommendation that the mare had not be permitted to race until a veterinary clearance is provided by connections.
ADELLE NZ - galloped for no apparent reason approaching the 1400 metres and lost considerable ground. After reviewing a good recent record in this regard, connections were advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing behaviour.
MAJESTIC HARRY NZ - galloped after the start and will be excluded from the barrier draw in future mobile starts. Galloped free of interference at the 1300 metres. After considering a good record in this regard a warning only was issued.
MY ULTIMATE EDDIE- broke in the latter stages of the score up and lost considerable ground. Connections were advised My Ultimate Eddie will be excluded from the barrier draw in future mobile starts.
Race 7 – 2024 THE BILL DIXON CONSOLATION 1660M
MAJIC MOMENT NZ - raced in restricted room on the final turn when racing to the inside of Obi One NZ which had a tendency to hang in under pressure.
OBI ONE NZ- inclined to hang in under pressure on the final turn when racing three wide.
COLLECT A DIME - raced three wide for the first 600 metres and was unsuccessful in obtaining a forward position which resulted in the gelding being restrained to the rear of the field.
Race 8 – RACING & SPORTS.COM 3YO COLTS & GELDINGS CLASSIC (LISTED CLASSIC) 2138M
PUNTERS JEWEL - galloped free of interference at the 200 metres and lost valuable ground. Connections were advised the gelding will be placed on its last chance to race truly.
THE JANITOR NZ - raced three wide with cover for the first 600 metres before progressing forward to obtain the position outside the leader at the 1400 metres.
THE MASKED CRUSADER NZ - raced three wide for the first 600 metres and was inclined to pull hard in the early stages.
MONTGOMERY BURNS NZ - out of position at the start.
General
Doug Hewitt (Montgomery Burns NZ) was reprimanded under AHR rule 162 (1) (j) for failing to maintain position behind the mobile barrier until reaching the starting point.
Race 9 – BURWOOD STUD 3YO FILLIES CLASSIC (LISTED CLASSIC) 2138M
MY LATIN LADY – raced tight to the inside of Soap Opera approaching the first turn and raced roughly when being restrained out of the position.
General
Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred as horses raced into the first turn after the start in which My Latin Lady raced roughly. After taking evidence from drivers Angus Garrard and Layne Dwyer, it was established both My Latin Lady and Soap Opera were being restrained from the one wide position in an attempt to gain the position three back on the marker pegs behind Shes Fullofspirit NZ. Stewards deemed both drivers simultaneously challenged for the same position and placed no blame on one particular driver and no further action was taken.
Race 10 – WOLF SIGNS BAND 4 / BAND 2 PACE 2138M
