AJAY VOLSTEAD – Shortly after the start was effected, was checked, and subsequently broke gait, by the galloping SASSY GALLEON. Tightened for racing room when taking advantage of an inside run late on the final turn, this resulted in markers being struck

HEAD EM UP NZ (Em 1) – Gained a start with the scratching of ALRIGHTY. Broke gait shortly after the restart, due to the restart no action was taken other than to note the circumstances.

General: Driver A Garrard was reprimanded for driving AJAY VOLSTEAD in its preliminary in the wrong direction, ie clockwise [AHR Rule 160(1)].

General:A false start was declared adjacent to the starting point when the mobile barrier moved away with the red light illuminated, causing confusion as some drivers continued racing. The starter was instructed to re-activate the red light, and Stewards sounded the siren to confirm the false start, directing drivers to restrain their horses. After a brief delay for gear adjustments, the field was recalled forward, with the horses scoring up in a satisfactory manner, and the race field was dispatched.

Stewards interviewed Race Starter Mr. J. Suli regarding the incident. Mr. Suli admitted he inadvertently activated the false start button whilst declaring a start. While Stewards acknowledged the circumstances, they expressed concern over the subsequent confusion and the reasons why/how this could have occurred. Stewards, on taking all things into consideration, stood Mr. Suli down for the remainder of the meeting. Assistant Starter Mr. J. Petersen assumed starting duties.
