General: Gemma Hewitt (Promising) was questioned regarding her decision to remain in the one wide line behind Tomahawk Bart leaving the 600m. It was noted that the gelding was held up for clear running from that point. Ms Hewitt explained that at that stage Promising was under pressure to hold its position loosing some ground when trailing Tomahawk Bart and felt it would be unsuitable to move wide at that stage. Ms Hewitt further explained that the gelding has raced wide at Redcliffe when the tempo of the races is more moderate. After considering the matter stewards accepted the explanation provided.

Stewards inquired into the reason for Mikibequick (Nathan Dawson) appearing to be inconvenienced and race roughly when Raging Sea (Brendan Barnes) was being move wider by the driver near the 400m. It was established in evidence that Raging Sea overreacted to the urgings of Brendan Barnes to move wide and Mikibequick was inclined to race roughly at that stage also. After considering the matter Stewards noted the circumstances but advised Brendan Barnes that his driving bordered on careless driving.

LOVE GUN – Broke gait near the 1800m. In view of the gelding’s previous record Love Gun was stood down for a period of 2 weeks and must perform two (2) consecutive satisfactory trials

General: Stewards considered a protest lodged by Brittany Graham (Majestic Harry NZ) placed 5th by the judge against Hammer Son (Adam Sanderson) placed 4th alleging interference rounding the home turn. After considering the matter Stewards were of the view that the interference suffered when Majestic Harry NZ and Hammer Son locked wheels rounding the home turn was as a result of Hammer Son shifting out and therefore were of the opinion that such interference was greater than the margin between the two horses at the finish and as such upheld the protest and amended the placings accordingly with Majestic Harry NZ 4th and Hammer Son 5th.
