General: Stewards opened an inquiry into an incident near the 1400-metre mark involving Littlelioneljames (Leonard Cain), which appeared to be tightened for racing room when positioned to the inside of Blackjack Crippa (Grant Dixon) and Art Jester (Matt Elkins).
After reviewing all available race footage and taking evidence from the drivers, it was established that Art Jester, driven by Matt Elkins, shifted down the track when insufficiently clear of Blackjack Crippa, which in turn caused that runner to move inward and tighten Littlelioneljames.
Matt Elkins acknowledged his actions and pleaded guilty to a charge under AHR 168(1)(a) for driving carelessly and causing a tightening. In determining penalty, Stewards considered Elkins’ guilty plea, his driving record, and the degree of interference caused. He was subsequently fined $200.
