Bronte Nieuwenburg has done the form for tonight’s meeting at Ballarat.

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: BLACKINDEED (8) is a speedy mare in great form. She will need to navigate off the fence to win here, but if she gets clear air she looks the one to beat. BULLETPROOF KID (7) is a talented horse who has had a few setbacks in his career. He was back in the winner’s circle last start at Cranbourne which would have boosted his confidence. He will need luck from the barrier, but he has the ability. MY ULTIMATE LUIGI (10) is in career best form, winning two of his last three starts and narrowly beaten in the other. He had to sustain a long run last start but still won comfortably with his ears up on the line. IM WESLEY (6) has had a few awkward barriers but has been racing well. He can make his own luck, which he will need to do here.

SELECTIONS: BLACKINDEED (8), BULLETPROOF KID (7), MY ULTIMATE LUIGI (10), IM WESLEY (6)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: FIRE MARSHALL (5) is a very smart horse with a bright future. He is third up and nearing peak fitness. He sustained a long run and still hit the line well last start. ARCHIE MOTH (3) hasn’t had much luck recently but has been racing well and should be able to get forward from barrier three. WILD BULL (10) was a good winner last start at Stawell when leading. He is tough, but this maps differently from barrier ten and he will need to make his own luck. TARA VICTORY (4) has the second-best sectional times in the field and is a strong swooper when saved for one run. The barrier is tricky as she won’t be on the fence, but she is not out of this.

BACK: FIRE MARSHALL (5) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: FIRE MARSHALL (5)ARCHIE MOTH (3), WILD BULL (10), TARA VICTORY (4)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: LE GASTON (8) is the experienced and consistent performer in this field. He has had six career starts for five placings and often races tough opposition. He will need to navigate the tricky barrier. FANTASY FLIGHT (9) is a well-bred first starter for Kyle Marshall who has shown promise in his trials. He hit the line well in his most recent trial and has options from barrier nine. BUNGY (6) is a first starter who was impressive winning a recent Melton trial and has an awkward draw to overcome. BUBBLE OVER (4) is another debutant with two trial seconds. He is well bred and looks well placed.

SELECTIONS: LE GASTON (8), FANTASY FLIGHT (9), BUNGY (6), BUBBLE OVER (4),

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: IM EDDIE (5) is a smart trotter by Volstead. He has been chasing home talented runners throughout his career and will appreciate this company. He will need luck but can make his own. LEANNE LEEANN (10) at her best is a smart trotter and has the clear best sectional times in this field. She may be in the twilight of her career but is still racing well and will need to make her own luck. EL BRAVO (8) is a lightly raced trotter who is third up and has plenty of ability. He has won two of nine but galloped in five starts, so he must get his gait right. RAMBO SUFFARELL (7) has had two career starts for a win and a seventh, galloping in both. Outside of that he has brilliant trial form. He needs to trot throughout but has ability.

BACK: IM EDDIE (5) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: IM EDDIE (5), LEANNE LEEANN (10), EL BRAVO (8), RAMBO SUFFARELL (7)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: CHARLIE WALKER (5) has recently led throughout and just tired late in close finishes. He has brilliant gate speed and may adopt similar tactics here, just needing to hold on a little longer. POPPY POPSTAR (4) can be inconsistent, but when she gets it right she can produce a strong performance. MISTA WALKER (8) is second up and hit the line strongly into second last start. He will improve with fitness and looks well placed. GUNSEN ROSIE (10) has improved at her last two starts. She lacks sharp point-to-point speed and will suit a slower final quarter. She needs things to go her way but is a winning chance.

SELECTIONS: CHARLIE WALKER (5), POPPY POPSTAR (4), MISTA WALKER (8) GUNSEN ROSIE (10)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: ADMIRALOFTHEFLEET (5) won last start at this track, covering an extra 25 metres and still finishing strongly. If he replicates that performance he is right in this. FINAL PROMISE (2) is a lightly raced, well-bred gelding from the Jess Tubbs stable who should continue to improve with age. He has a good barrier to use to his advantage. MORRIS BROWN (6) is an ex-Tasmanian performer first up for Carson Millar. Millar has a small stable but an excellent record with new additions. His Tasmanian form shows gate speed and strong sectionals, and he may appreciate the change of scenery. MIDNIGHT MOJO (8) has been racing very well, finishing top three at her past six starts. Barrier eight is awkward if she is stuck on the fence, but with clear room she will be strong late.

SELECTIONS: ADMIRALOFTHEFLEET (5), FINAL PROMISE (2), MORRIS BROWN (6), MIDNIGHT MOJO (8)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: BOND GIRL (3) has performed well since joining the Sam Barker stable. She is a strong swooper and the way she has been finishing off her races from back in the field has been impressive. She shouldn’t get as far back from barrier three. At her best OUR BELLA LUCIA (8) is a nice mare but she hasn’t won for a year. Her recent sectional times have been consistently good and she can perform well with luck. NORMANDY NUGGET (5) is a smart runner who can make his own luck. He was good last start, sustaining a long run, but fitness is a slight query after 40 days between runs. YANKEE GAMBLER (9) is a tough campaigner who races well when forward and has options from barrier nine.

BACK: BOND GIRL (3) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: BOND GIRL (3), OUR BELLA LUCIA (8), NORMANDY NUGGET (5),
YANKEE GAMBLER (9)

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: MIDNITE MUSCLE (1) won well last start. He has the confidence, the gate speed, the best sectional times and finds a suitable race to go back-to-back. MAGIC LAW (3) is in career best form, winning her last two starts. If she finds cover she will be flashing home. FLING IT RAINBOW (4) is a 10-year-old with 21 wins and is still performing well, winning two starts back at Maryborough. He can’t be left out. NIGHT FLIGHT (9) hit the line well two starts back at Stawell and appears to be getting back to his best. He will need luck but can be saved for one run.

BACK: MIDNITE MUSCLE (1) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: MIDNITE MUSCLE (1), MAGIC LAW (3), FLING IT RAINBOW (4), NIGHT FLIGHT (9)

Race 9:

OVERVIEW: SPIRITED LASS (9) is a very talented mare but comes with a manners risk. When she trots she is outstanding and capable of remarkable performances. FREMARKS PEGGY (4) is in career best form and has finished top two at her past five starts. She has a better barrier than some of her tougher rivals. NO TELLING HEATHER (7) was a feature race winner at two but hasn’t won since that year. Her last start third was promising and she may be returning to form. GOLDEN SKIES (5) has been racing well recently but will need luck from the barrier. She comes from a strong trotting stable.

BACK: SPIRITED LASS (9) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: SPIRITED LASS (9), FREMARKS PEGGY (4), NO TELLING HEATHER (7), GOLDEN SKIES (5)
