Bagdad-based trainer-driver Paul Williams will be out to continue his good record in recent weeks at Sunday night’s harness meeting in Hobart.
Williams has prepared a winner at the past two harness meetings held at the venue.
“They have picked their scrapers up and are having a bit of a crack,” said Williams about his stable’s recent efforts.
Two of Williams’s most recent winners, Debt Till We Part and Shooin, will clash in the Racing Connect Pace (1609m).
Williams will drive Debt Till We Part, which won two starts ago.
“He was going good three starts ago but he got cleaned up on the home corner, and he came back in with about six inches of hair off his leg. Then, he followed up with a win a fortnight later.
“Last start he was held up on the pegs and had nowhere to go,” the trainer-driver explained.
Shooin has drawn beside the stablemate in barrier four and won at his most recent start.
“It was the first time Gareth (Rattray) had driven him, and he said straight after the race that he was keen to drive him again. So he was obviously happy with him, and we have stuck him on again.
“I think both horses should go alright,” said Williams.
In race four, Williams prepares Fiveforty, who Gareth Rattray will also drive.
The pacer has drawn barrier one for his sixth consecutive start.
“One doesn’t suit him as he is a horse that wants a bit of room around him. We have put Gareth on him to see if another driver can make a difference with him, and we will decide what we do with him after the race I guess,” said the trainer.
Donny In Paris has drawn the pole in the final race of the night, which rounds out Williams stable runners.
“He has been going good. He just needs abit of luck. Drawn one, he should be able to get pretty handy,” the trainer said.
Williams has also picked up the drive on the Wayne Rainbird trainer Peanut Sutter in race five, who finished third when resuming from a spell two weeks ago.
“He just run out of a little bit of fitness near the finish last start and should strip fitter than that,” said the driver.
Sunday’s seven-race card commences at 17:34.
