Burnie, Friday 13 March

Race 1

SHEEZA SOHO (1) broke her maiden in good style last start when leading throughout at Carrick as a well-backed favourite. She looks to have enough speed to hold up again around the tight Burnie circuit and could make it back-to-back wins. CEE TEE CHELSEA (4) is arguably the class runner of the field and if she brings her previous placings form — after breaking gear last start — she would take plenty of beating. BARBETTE (2) should secure a comfortable run on speed and has been consistent in this grade of late. TWILIGHT BEACH (5) drops slightly in class and can be finishing strongly if the tempo is genuine. YURUGA LASS (3) and ROSE NOIRE (6) have been well beaten at their past two outings and will need to improve sharply to feature.

Selections CEE TEE CHELSEA (4), SHEEZA SOHO (1), BARBETTE (2), TWILIGHT BEACH (5)

Race 2

A full field assembles for the stand start over the middle distance where the front row runners will be keen to use their advantage early. STEPUPNDANCE (2) broke through for a deserved win last start when leading throughout at this track, though she will need to begin quickly to hold out the notably fast beginner ONEOFTHELADS (3), who relishes the stand start. He may need to lift on recent efforts to be a winning hope. ALBERIO (5) has been in terrific form thanks to his sharp stand-start manners and will again look to use that asset despite starting 10 metres. CAN FEEL THE FURY (4) was dominant here two starts ago, sprinting sharply in the closing stages. The 20-metre backmarkers TULLAH GIRL (9) and COLBY SANZ (10) will be hoping for genuine tempo to bring them into play with luck in transit.

Selections STEPUPNDANCE (2), ALBERIO (5), CAN FEEL THE FURY (4), ONEOFTHELADS (3)

Race 3

MY BEAUTIFUL LIFE (4) has put together a string of impressive performances of late. She was safely away but very slow when qualifying from the stand in Victoria, however with a clean beginning here she will be extremely hard to beat. JILLIBY JAY SEA (1) has been thereabouts in similar races and should use the inside draw to hold a forward position. NOBLEZZZ ADVICE (3) was handy first up in the state after arriving from King Island and with his noted stand-start manners, he should again be in the finish. The remainder have been somewhat hit and miss, including PARK LANE (2), though the stand start may help him settle better in the run and improve his chances.

Selections MY BEAUTIFUL LIFE (4), NOBLEZZZ ADVICE (3), JILLIBY JAY SEA (1), PARK LANE (2)

Race 4

LA PIERRE (4) brings the most consistent form into this small six-horse field and looks well placed to return to the winner’s stall. ANDAMAN BAY (6) rarely runs a poor race and is sure to loom as a danger at some stage over the final lap. AWAY GAME (1) and NIKITA JO (2) may contest the early lead from their favourable draws, with ROCK AMOUR (3) also capable of pressing forward. MODERN JIVE (5) continues to drop in grade but will need to lift on recent efforts, even in this company.

Selections LA PIERRE (4), ANDAMAN BAY (6), NIKITA JO (2), ROCK AMOUR (3)

Race 5

A small but very competitive field assembles for the 2500-metre Cup where most runners are renowned for their reliable stand-start manners. IRON CLAD (5) is arguably the class horse of the field at his best and will take holding out wherever he settles in the run. THE CHANCER (3) returns to the front line after recent wins off back marks and had previously been competitive in feature races; with a soft run in transit, he can be finishing hard late with his sharp sprint. FLEETWOOD ROCK (2) led and dictated with easy sectionals to win the Carrick Cup last start and will again look to use his stand-start ability to advantage, though he is unlikely to get things as easy in this company. ROCKANDAHARDPLACE (1) is reliable and should settle on speed, though may not be racing quite at his peak. ROCKS ROY (4) and WAZZA (6) have been racing well but rise slightly in class and may need genuine pressure up front to bring their finishing bursts into play.

Selections IRON CLAD (5), THE CHANCER (3), FLEETWOOD ROCK (2), ROCKS ROY (4)

Race 6

A stand start for the lower grades where early manners will again be crucial. OUR RUBY ROSE (6) produced the pick of the runs last start in a similar field after settling at the rear, and in this smaller line-up she should get her opportunity to finish strongly. RANIERI (5) is always thereabouts and consistently performs in this class, making him a solid contender again. MEMPHIS (2) has shown marked improvement at his past two outings and if able to find the front, he could take catching. FEELINKINDALUCKY (1) drops slightly in grade compared to recent runs and will be looking to take advantage of the pole position. IM QUITE AMERICAN (3) and MACH ANGELO (4) have been out of form for some time and will need to lift significantly to be competitive, even at this level.

Selections OUR RUBY ROSE (6), RANIERI (5), MEMPHIS (2), FEELINKINDALUCKY (1)

Race 7

CAPTAIN CHEDDAR (1) draws the pole and looks set to attempt another all-the-way victory, similar to his win two starts back at Burnie. There does not appear to be significant gate speed drawn to his outside, which should allow him to dictate. ROYAL CADENCE (3) shapes as one of the main dangers and is likely to slot into the running line early, enabling her to finish strongly as she typically does. LALIBELA (6) secures a favourable trailing draw behind the expected leader and should get every opportunity to be in the finish. CHRIS BE QUICK (7) may opt for the three-peg position and hope for late gaps, while QUEENOFDANCE (8) has found form in recent outings and could be dangerous late with the right run. SWEET AMOUR (5) is a consistent placegetter but has been disappointing when looming to win in similar company and faces an awkward draw, as does HORRIE OTARA (4).

Selections CAPTAIN CHEDDAR (1), ROYAL CADENCE (3), LALIBELA (6), QUEENOFDANCE (8)
