Race 1:
OVERVIEW: MY BETTOR HALF (9) is an Emma Stewart-trained three-year-old who raced against the top of her age group last year. She is lightly raced and will have improved from her first-up run in late January. Respecting the Stewart barn here, and she will appreciate the barrier to follow through early. IM WESLEY (1) has gate speed and races well when in front or on the fence. He will be able to hold a forward position here. BLACKINDEED (2) was checked out of the race last start, but her prior runs were great. She can make her own luck and will appreciate the forward barrier. MISTER FONZI (3) has a great turn of foot. If he can replicate the way he hit the line three starts back at Maryborough, he will be flashing home.
BACK: MY BETTOR HALF (9) – 3 units (win)
SELECTIONS: MY BETTOR HALF (9), IM WESLEY (1), BLACKINDEED (2), MISTER FONZI (3)
Race 2:
OVERVIEW: ROMAN CHARLIE (9) follows out Loan Sailor early, who has good gate speed. He should settle in a good position and has the best sectional times in this field. ALLGOOD VINNIE (7) was first up for James and Ashleigh Herbertson last start and it was a much-improved performance. He will likely improve again here, but he has a sticky barrier. LOAN SAILOR (2) has the gate speed to map well in this race. If she can find the fence, that will suit her. JACQUELYN JOY (1) gets the important ace barrier here to take advantage of.
SELECTIONS: ROMAN CHARLIE (9), LOAN SAILOR (2), ALLGOOD VINNIE (7), JACQUELYN JOY (1)
Race 3:
OVERVIEW: PIPALICIOUS (10) has ability, but her manners have cost her throughout her career. Her sectional times have been strong. She just needs to trot. BIG RAIN (6) has had two promising runs to start her career. She is still learning, but she has been safely trotting, which is a big plus in maiden trots. METRO SWISH (1) is working towards a win, placing at her last three starts. Barrier one suits. NOSTRA NIPOTINA (8) should have a safe fence-line trip here. Her manners can be poor, but she does have ability.
SELECTIONS: PIPALICIOUS (10), BIG RAIN (6), METRO SWISH (1), NOSTRA NIPOTINA (8)
Race 4:
OVERVIEW: FLYING SPARKS (4) has been racing consistently well recently. He did it tough last start at Bendigo and battled on well for third. He can make his own luck. OPTIMAL (8) will need some luck to get off the fence, but he has a good sprint if he gets the right run. SUPER CODE (2) has been good at his last two starts. He won well at massive odds last start and is well placed here from the barrier. JUST PEDRO (3) was good last start at Shepparton when second after making a late run. He looks close to returning to the winners’ circle.
BACK: FLYING SPARKS (4) – 2.5 units (win)
SELECTIONS: FLYING SPARKS (4), OPTIMAL (8), SUPER CODE (2), JUST PEDRO (3)
Race 5:
OVERVIEW: LESTER (7) has been in flying form since joining the Tori Hutchins team. Tori always has her horses racing at their best. He was a good winner last start at Charlton and just needs to overcome a tricky barrier here. YANKEE GAMBLER (10) is a tough horse who likes racing on speed. He’s ultra-consistent but will need to be put into the race from the wide outside back-row barrier. SHIRALEE (5) drops in class here. She sustained a long run and was only narrowly beaten last start. OUR TRUE COLOURS (9) is a good sit-sprinter and should be able to follow through into a good early position from barrier nine.
BACK: LESTER (7) – 2.5 units (win)
SELECTIONS: LESTER (7), YANKEE GAMBLER (10), SHIRALEE (5), OUR TRUE COLOURS (9)
Race 6:
OVERVIEW: NIGHT FLIGHT (2) has been racing consistently and is working towards getting back into the winners’ circle. Barrier two suits. SPANISH RIZARDO (4) improved last start when leading and only getting beaten late. He is racing well and looks to be at the peak of his powers. MISTA WALKER (1) is working back from a long spell, with two starts this year for two seconds. He has the ace barrier and should be close to peak fitness. CHILLHUNNYBUNNY (3) is second up here. If he can slot into a forward position with cover, he has the chance to be flashing home late.
SELECTIONS: NIGHT FLIGHT (2), SPANISH RIZARDO (4), MISTA WALKER (1), CHILLHUNNYBUNNY (3)
Race 7:
OVERVIEW: FLING IT RAINBOW (2) is a good performer when he’s near the front of the field. He is racing well and should get a good trip here. NO TELLING HEATHER (6) is a talented mare on her day. She has some gate speed and the ace barrier. SINGARA TED (5) has been getting it wrong recently, but when he trots, he trots well. He can’t be excluded, as he is a good performer when he brings his best.
BACK: FLING IT RAINBOW (2) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: FLING IT RAINBOW (2), NO TELLING HEATHER (6), LOUIEVILLE LASS (1), SINGARA TED (5)
